  • Wow! Very nice home...

  • wow! it looks so modern. i want 1:)

  • zDoNuTz - yes you can own as long as you obtain a Thai ID card, you will need to be registered here at the local Umpurs office, or what ever province you buy in. Both My children were born in the UK to a Thai mother and have dual nationality and own there own houses here as well as the land. However am I correct in

the belief Singaporeans are not allowed dual citizenship or you must give on up - do as a friend of mine did - do not say anything. You technically have the rights to buy.

  • You cannot own this house, though it will not stop them selling it to you, they offer you Thai proxys as signatories. You will own the house contents - you can build extensions put in a swimming pool if you wish. The fact is you cannot and under no circumstances own the land the house is on. They say lease long term - this contract is easily annulled in a Thai court - even more so when they see you are a foreigner.

  • Stupid laws for ownership. Less worry renting.

  • @bigtim50 - Makes sense to me. As long as you are playing the passport/visa game, you should be ready to be able to bail if need be.

  • Especially if you are in Thailand with a tourist visa and want to buy a condo or a house(without land) you have to show a bank statement saying that you have transfered the money from outside of Thailand to make the payment. We have some funny laws please don't ask me why.

  • I'm Thai and I used to work in a real estates firm back in Chiang Mai. Foreigners can own a condo/house for fully 100%. Only the land that you can't put it in your name unless you register as a company and have 51% share holder of Thai. I'm not sure about now but then (four years ago) banks wouldn't do any lease with foreigners.

  • That is all very well, but a westerner is not allowed to own a house/land in Thailand!

  • not true, they can own house but not the land itself. Lease can be signed at 99 years. Longer if you think you can live longer than 99 years. Buying home and land sepeartely is the norm in Thailand, unlike Western countries.

  • OK, you can lease from a Thai, but what happens if you wish to sell? Also the government is not too keen on this type of arrangement. The only 100% safe way is a condo as long as 51% Thai owned.

  • You can marry a local, then "you guys" can own it out right. The law is there to protect the local, otherwise, it'll be the same situation as real estate in Hawaii.

  • @kjhbigv1 er..if i am half singaporean and half thai but holding a singaporean passport will i be able to buy land and house?

  • cheap for us but normal in Thailand, there cost of living is much lower than ours so its a really great bargain for any one here in the states who wants to buy a house in Thailand.

  • thats horribly cheap. Is it going to be a con biz

  • that is cheap
