Good information! I am constantly smoothing my tool rest. I think the tool rests that come standard with most lathes are cheaply made base metal. I have convinced myself to change up to the Cylindrical steel tool-rest and spend more time cutting wood than shaving metal. Excellent presentation, Thanks.
It's a 1960's Rockwell Lathe, I bought it for about 300 bucks, it does everything that I need for chairmaking!
