  • Putting words into someones mouth.

  • I don't agree with Bill on all his beliefs, but that doesn't mean i consider him or those beliefs irrational. I know for a fact he's thought about his decisions very hard. Bill Maher is a talk show host and as such anything he says can be taken out of context. Things get generalised so that it can fit into his show's timeslot and this should be understood. Taking anything at literal value and without understanding the complete context is a mistake on your part, not Bill's.

  • Doctors are stupid.

  • ...this is so classic that she has to use "scizophrenic" in this context, why should anyone think about him being a conspiracy-theorist anyway? We're so pushed into western society thinking that ppl are already accused of being dellusionary when having different views on life. We live in countries based on their economy, so the thought that rich companies want to stay rich at ALL cost is not really absurd, business is business, if its with human beings or just carots doesnt make a difference...

  • I think he is just not educated in those matters

  • Wow, I wonder if they work for the pharmaceutical companies?

Who exactly are we listening to? Why should I care what these people think?

    Gimme a break.

The CDC, FDA, and Big Pharma have revolving doors between the agencies. You can look it up! Why in the world should we trust people who have their hands in ALL the proverbial 'cookie jars'?

It isn't doctors who are killing people, it's the US Bureaucrats, our un-elected officials that are 'taking care of us'.

  • @nerdbutterlfy Why should we care about your paranoid rantings? Give us a break.

  • @icemachine79 I take it you don't read history or newspaper articles? I also take it from one of your posts on your youtube account that you also don't read Medical Journals or you wouldn't have proclaimed that HIV is not a man-made illness. HIV was created by taking Simian Immunodeficiency Viruses from apes and injecting it into humans, thus, creating the HIV strain over an extended exposure time. It was published in part by the Rockefeller Institute. Either that or you're a gov shill.

  • @icemachine79 (cont) Readings fun, you should try it sometime.

  • @nerdbutterlfy Amen & Thumbs up to that comment! Mosp ppl have NO idea the bedfellows these people have & how prevalent the Pharma Prostution Ring is. I follow Natural News & Natural Alliance for all the latest health care news as those outlets keep VERY close tabs & up-to-date on all the BigPharma News. High 5 to you!

  • @LivinInHisWord Thank you, I agree. I've had the hardest time trying to expose family and friends to the truth. It's nice to know their are others out there that are awake.

    High 5 back at ya!

  • @nerdbutterlfy

You forgot to capitalize the word "truth". When you say "Truth", it helps us to understand where you're coming from. It helps us to understand that what you are stating is no different than the other proclaimed "Truths" out there that have little to no evidence, other than testimonies, documentaries, and pseudoscientific "doctors", to support them. Said "doctors" just happen to NOT have the credentials to speak on these matters, while peddling supplements.

  • @nerdbutterlfy Yeah everybody who disagrees with the lunatic fringe is on the payroll of BIG-SOMETHING. Man, if only these ridiculous conspiracies were true and making some cash was that easy.

  • @VanDammesCokeDealer I don't know what you are trying to imply. But I would suggest that you start to read a little bit more. There are conflicts of interest going on within our government agencies. People taking pay offs, embezzling and etc. It's been in the news.

Reading may be tedious, but there's a wealth of knowledge out there.

  • If Maher is a vegetarian - and vegetarian for animal rights and NOT this health bullshit - i.e. a vegetarian for the reasons that *I* am - then that is a GOOD thing.

Can't explain his idiotic objection to vaccines.

Of course, I can't explain his idiotic objection to the alien hypothesis for some UFOs. He's just as bad as those at the opposite extreme with all kinds of elaborate unprovable and unproven explanations and stories involving aliens.

  • @mphello

Make sure your children's vaccines are up to date and they drink plenty of fluoridated water for healthy teeth, and a compliant demeanor. It's what's best for society. .

  • @onefodderunit Thanks for the advice General Ripper. Good luck keeping your bodily fluids pure!

  • I have a hard time believing he said "it's illegal to even talk about alternative medicine". Can you give me the date of that show? I have to see if that's true. Thank you.

  • I do agree with some restraint on the medication front... for example... I think Prozac and Ritalin are extremely extremely overprescribed. But Maher definitely does go too far when it comes to vaccines and many of his other views on medicine. As someone else pointed out he is also staunchly vegetarian and that group also tends to have a lot of cranks... people who believe in "toxins" and cleansing fasts and BS like that.

  • He disagrees with your mainstream views so he's a schizophrenic? That kinda proves his point on how anyone who doesn't blindly follow the system gets persecuted and put on some mind-numbing drug by pharmaceutical companies. The only people with mental illness are the ones who deny that rich, greedy men will sacrifice peoples' lives and well being for profit. Those kinds of people suffer from severe denial, arrogance, and cognitive dissonance.

  • @SoloWing808 Not because he disagrees with the mainstream views, but because of the reason he disagrees with them. When it comes to vaccines and medical treatment Bill Maher is guilty of the same mental sins for which he condemns supporters of intelligent design and AGW denialism. He may not be schizophrenic but he's certainly a hypocrite. Cognitive dissonance and arrogance? A good example of that is assuming complete systematic failure of the medical industry because of greed.

  • I love his show, and he is hilarious, but I was shocked when I heard this podcast and researched his views about this. The few times I heard him speak about these issues, it tended to make me a bit uncomfortable, but I didn't quite realize the extent of his irrationality. He is a vegetarian though and that's often connected with denialism of vaccine effectiveness and all these things. Even though there is more irrationality on the right, this particular issue has plenty on the left.

  • Google: 'Perry's Merck link in spotlight following vaccine order

Gardasil maker hired his former chief of staff as a lobbyist in Austin' the drug company, Merck, that manufactured the vaccine hired Mike Toomey, his former chief of staff, as one of the firm's top lobbyists in Austin.Merck donated $16,000 to Perry's gubernatorial campaigns.Merck paid Mike Toomey, Perry's frmr chief of staff $260,000 and $535,000 in fees between 2005 and 2010, according to state lobbying records~

  • @promiseIsaih60 It took lots of money to convince a complete idiot to make the correct and rational decision? What a shocker!

  • I'm really glad someone's put this out. I agree with Maher's stance on a lot of things, but he needs to open his mind some-more and stop looking for things that conveniently fit into his own paranoid world view.

  • What the Fu@k are you say? OH so sorry you don't what you say. Why open your big mouth!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • probs all true, but one point doesnt diminish the other just enriches the appearance of the pool

  • @timguyperson

    storm?

  • 224 people are mindless tools who worship the ground Bill walks on.

  • I'm confused about Maher now...

  • Yep... all the science says WTC 1, 2 and 7 were blown up with explosives. Absolutely no evidence exists that those building did or could possibly fall down because of fire.

Yet, he, and apparently this video, choose to disregard all the scientific evidence.

  • wait bill maher questions religion but he's also anti-science? 1 min 30 secs in is what you said. get your facts right which I know is hard if you believe in the talking snake.

  • Why does Maher insist peer reviewed climate science is correct, but then totally dismisses peer reviewed science when it comes to medicine? He can't have it both ways. He has selective contempt for conspiracy theorists.

  • @remembered Advances in diagnostic technology is the most likely cause for reduction of cancer mortality rates. Your views are misplaced as well, U.S. physicians often are not completely honest with patients with respect to cancer therapies, particularly those involving metastatic cancers. Cancer rates are far more prevalent than documented medical cases. The fact is most cancers are cured, human cells have a self destruct mechanism, apoptosis, in addition to cellular immune responses.

  • @rememberedhills Christians believe in a whole bunch of crazy shit and then get to walk around outside and talk to people as if they don't believe in a talking snake, the virgin birth, or a supernatural father figure. so what if he doesn't trust the drug companies (they are trying to make money after all). if your a reasonable person you try to think about both sides of a situation and because of that your bound to have conflicting opinions. total consistency is for robots.

  • @rememberedhills True, these are not Maher's finest moments. But lets not sweep under the carpet the systemic insatiable profit-mongering of the pharmaceutical industry with their 8 digit salaried CEO's who spend more than twice as much on promotion, marketing and administration as they do on research and development. Particularly massively promoting over-medication of conditions such as ADHD, restless leg syndrome, ED etc. to realize their $billions of profits.

  • @fctchk And that has absolutely nothing to do with the effectiveness of mainstream medicine.

  • But it has everything to do with the trustworthiness of an industry whose history is littered with (ultra toxic) cancer "cures" costing patients $ tens of thousands which they typically love to claim prolong a patient's life (an easy claim to make- how can you prove the contrary) but then turn out to be BS.

The point being that the ETHICS of the pharmaceutical industrial complex -the mainstream quacks with their often doctored "peer reviewed science", is on par with the "alternative" quacks.

  • @rememberedhills He's both right and wrong about medicine. Yes it should be up for debate. Yes it isn't a 100% safe procedure. But he's wrong in that he makes it sound a lot more dangerous than it really is. Put simply, inoculating is a LOT safer than just living healthy.

  • Maher questions religion, but he's not a rationalist? lmao.. Another example of ignorant people trying to come off as intelligent.

  • @medinathedon it's possible to be irrational and anti-religion. I have two friends who are conspiracy theorists who believe in magic, and they both hate religion.

  • These assholes do not even understand what the melting point of steel is, and claim to know SCIENCE?

This is what happens when100,000,000 people start putting videos on youtube

  • @turak0 You think Steve Novella is being unscientific here? You must be scientifically illiterate.

  • @Fernicia I know science better than you or the two morons who posted this video. I don't know who this Steve Novella, is but if he is the one talking on this video: he's a quack. The melting point of steel refers to their total ignorance of science: They do not supply any scientific facts. IF you study science: you will find that everything this morons assume to be true is completely false. I KNOW they 're idiots because I studied the scientific facts: you haven't and neither have they.

  • @turak0 You "study scientific facts" eh? Factology, right? Don't embarrass yourself. You clearly don't know the first thing about medicine if you think these guys are quacks. Steve Novella is the Director of General Neurology at Yale University School of Medicine. Look him up on Wikipedia. He's the front man for multiple recognised and respected sceptical movements. Particularly in the area of medicine. Bill Maher on the other hand is a TV personality with no scientific or medical experience.

  • @Fernicia Now I KNOW these two morons are QUACKS, and now I KNOW you are a MORON who WORSHIPS AUTHORITY FIGURES: You still do not understand: the melting point of STEEL is why they are unscientific MORONS. The REASON you do not understand this is because your brain DOES NOT WORK: you yourself cannot figure out anything: you rely on an 'expert' to TELL you what the facts are: I don't. I can figure out what the truth is by studying the facts: you can't: you need authority figures to tell you.

  • @turak0 Although I agree, these talking individuals are misinformed, the melting point of steel depends on the quantities of added elements such as carbon, and other trace metals.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s correction, element such as carbon in addition to trace metals.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s You don't understand

I am speaking of the melting point of the steel girders used in the construction of the twin towers and building 7 They have a melting point that is thousands of degrees higher than the temperature of burning jet fuel. Anyone who took science in high school understands this. It was physically impossible for the planes crashing into the 2 towers to makes them collapse: PERIOD. The two morons on the audio are DUMB, and I mean too STUPIID for words.

  • @turak0 I see. I have little information with respect to the steel girders of the twin towers other than they were treated with high temperature resistant coatings. A steel column of a given dimension has a critical stress value upon which the column will begin to buckle. At this point the column will begin to oscillate until failure occurs. However without further data, it's difficult to determine the cause of the collapsing towers.

  • @turak0 "I am speaking of the melting point of the steel girders used in the construction of the twin towers and building 7 They have a melting point that is thousands of degrees higher than the temperature of burning jet fuel.".............ummm the nist report NEVER CLAIMed THAT. stop with the fucking strawmens

  • You know why we do not have a cancer cure yet? Because the FDA holds back potentially life saving drugs and treatments for years and years the same burecracies that Maher champions. Such a fucking idiot

  • It's amazing how much effort goes behind attacking people instead of investing their time on the real issue. The foods that are permitted to occupy our supermarket shelves is just shit wrapped in a bow. Monkeys have a hard time distinguishing priorities. Don't know what's worse, listening to these people go on a rant or watching paint dry. I love science, but like most people with some airwaves to share...they waste them.

  • @mrtapoche1 He's not a hypocrite, he's in show business. If he made anti-jewish comments they would take him off the air just like they did with a few different news anchors and interviewers. He wants to keep his job, if you haven't realized it already nobody in show business except jews ever make fun of or harass jews. They control hollywood, he'd be a complete idiot to do it.

  • Um I think his argument is that western medicine completely ignores nutrition. His own foray into eating highly nutritious foods has improved his immune system so much he no longer has infections or the kinds of aches and pains that would still put him in the "healthy" category of most medical practitioners. And I think the therapy in Mexico he refers to is probably the Gerson Therapy.

  • bill maher....the rocket scientist who doesnt trust the government and doesnt trust the health care industry but wants the government to run healthcare.

    fucking idiot.

  • Bill Maher: great guy.

  • What I love about the so-called skeptics is they never realize irony of lists like the one in the video description. These guys are naive and hypocritical beyond belief. I would rather have a roomful of conspiracy theorists than these incredible bigots.

  • @KOMC4444

They didn't say anything like that. At all.

  • Natural medicine is considered illegal in this country because the law states that "Only a drug can cure, prevent, diagnose, or treat a disease." If I sold you a Lime and said "This lime will CURE you of scurvy", well I'm not selling fruit anymore; I'm selling a drug because ONLY A DRUG can cure a disease, as by said law. Now I'm practicing medicine without a license, and I go to jail. Natural cures work very well, but you can't patent Limes, so you can't make money. Drugs, on the other hand...

  • @eatthatmeatball LOL I googled your quote and you would think if that was the law, that quote would pop up on google. In fact only one result came back haha. Can you send a link with that quote on it. You say that natural cures work well....Can I see some peer reviewed data and studies that demonstrate that that is the case? Alternative medicine is Quack medicine. Your conspiracy theories are bull shit.

  • @eatthatmeatball uhh... you weird

  • hes not against science ,he just dosent trust government and when they give out free vaccines hes sceptical about there motives

  • You shitty fuckers . He has a million times more brain than all you put together.

  • the "patron saint of religiophobia"

  • @EastofForever a phobia is unrational fear of something. Whats unrational about fearing religion?

  • @EastofForever ah! another reliophobe! get help son...

  • sounds like religious wankers who can't drum up why their crap can't sell... ever smell shit on a boot as it walks by..? like of like that... maher is a true believer in the truth... get a life, people...

  • Good Bill Maher bashes the truthers.

Bad Bill Maher is an anti-vax quack.

  • it helps if u have a sense of humor

  • illegal alternative medicine? ever heard of marijuana

  • Even though I don't agree with Maher's views on medicine, and to me he seem to be driven more against corporate power.

I will defend his epistemic stance on the matter of medicine,

Medicine has a slight expert problem.

You would be better off taking a bottom up tinkering approach than a top-down theoretical approach.

  • are you that naive? Pharma companies DO have control over the health industry. If you do a little research on why I can buy a car from Canada, buy not medicine that will save my life? Hmmm...

  • Would you fags relax. He's not a doctor, so if you take medical advice from him you may be an idiot. Also, he definitely promotes legitimate and important sciences like evolution and climatology... so receiving the Richard Dawkins award seems natural.

Now if they had given him some sort of medical science award, you could have bitched.

  • Dear Diary...March 21st............Today they made new rules...........a smaller particle was discovered

  • Quite frankly, I’m not anti-science either, but I am questioning the motives of pharmaseutical companies. Alternative medicine is fine with me also; provided that the “alternative” medicines are also tested for effectiveness, sideeffects, and their “doctors” liscensed and tested you know things I would demand of my mechanic. I do also have reservations about the “pill dispensers” doctors have turned into.

  • But, really? Is it that simple? Did he say all modern medicine is evil, as in your analogy? I'm not trying to be difficult and black/white about this. He is a comedian, BTW. And, it does appear to me that there has been a lot of problems arising from the profit margins in the pharmaceutical business. I'm no scholar, but I bet you could see evidence of this if you wanted to. Overall it's the best thing ever, no doubt.

  • And to suggest that he's against pain killers and such things is getting a bit silly. Come on. You are going too far. Why? I'm finding it hard to believe you think that. It seems like you want to grab something and run with it as far as you can, for some reason. I doubt it's about your deep concern for humanity. If you think it is, I bet you could take a nice look at the details of your own life and find much you could change for humanity. Something seems weird about this. This goes for myself.

  • @shunyotube

He specifically stated western medicine, without any constraints, thus includes pain killers.

He also stated the treatment of symptoms, which again includes pain killers.

The profit problem is only due to the inefficiency of FDA, which forces drug companies to jack up prices of newly released drug patents.

    What he stated is inexcusable.

  • @cr9527

Again, he's a comedian, not a politician or lawyer. Most folks who hear a person like that say such things can navigate it and get the point without going nuts. Get a grip. Do you really think he is against pain killers? Did he say treating symptoms is evil? No, he didn't, from your quote. You should take something to calm yourself down.

  • @shunyotube

What he stated is an insult to all modern medicine. I will not back off from this, because it is blatantly clear what he stated. You CANNOT justify it by saying hes a comedian. He can be a witch doctor for all I care. ANYONE who says something like this, regardless of purpose, should be shunned.

  • @cr9527 Sorry if this ends out as duplicate posting.

I disagree. He didn't say homeopathy or such is better than modern medicine, or such silliness. Hey, if he says homeopathy is good stuff, I'll denounce him. Or all Muslims are evil, as in your analogy. Witch doctor? Take a chill-pill. Of course you don't care if he's a witch doctor. That's misreading what I said. Is our health care system devoted to avoiding sickness? Is there reason to think some like the money earned from the current system

  • @shunyotube

    What he stated:

    1. Western Medicine only treats symptoms. - Wrong, this includes Vaccines, antibiotics, etc.

    2. He specifically stated "the Non-Alternative Medicine", implying that Alternative Medicine is superior. - This is just absolutely absurd.

These 2 statements are insulting, wrong, ridiculous, and most importantly, Dangerous.

    It is a disgrace.

  • @cr9527

I agree. Western Medicine doesn't only treat symptoms. And I think it is superior to any alternative I know of, overall.

  • @cr9527 Well, I will back off. I hope you see that I know you didn't say he supports homeopathy. I don't want to put words in your mouth. It just seems like he insulted sacred writ for you. Can a person with a cable show not express views? I don't think you are against free speech. A curious selection for your indignation, though. Did he say prayer is the way? What did he say is the way? He suggested investment in healthy living is good, by my reading. Is our system aimed toward that?

  • @cr9527 Can you find no reason to believe that drug companies do have strong incentive influence studies in favor of their expensive drugs, and actually do it? Is there no reason to believe those companies wouldn't want drugs that can actually do it better quickly and cheaply to not be available? Are you writing me off as a conspiracy theorist because I even suggest such a thing?

  • @shunyotube What you believe: Big pharma is suppressing alt. medicine so they can sell their expensive non-alt. medicine.

What is actually happening: Big pharma is using science to create newer and more effective expensive drugs/treatments, making the old ones cheap (Antibiotics, anesthetics, etc...).

What would happen if alt. medicine worked: "Head On" would be a branch of Tylenol, Bayer would have a homeopathy lab, and you would get your healing crystals from the pharmacy in a Pfizer box.

  • @exugoareo

No. But I think Big pharma has pushed meds that haven't proven to be effective at times, and sometimes very harmful. Most alt. medicine seems to be useless stuff to me. I meant what I said that I think modern alopathic medicine is the best ever, so I don't know why you are telling me that I believe what you say I do. Crystals? Wow, you don't know me. I don't know why you think you got my number when you say stuff like that.

  • @exugoareo you have got to be kidding me... western medicine is a joke.

  • @cruzangringa Sorry it took 3 days to respond, but I've had to spend those 3 days doing research on how to rebuttal against the substantial pile of evidence you presented for your claim.

  • These people are misstating what he said.

  • God Americans are gullible. You are all cult followers. You treat belief systems as a team sport. Bill Maher is total disinfo. He acts like a rebel, but he pushes the zionist agenda. He lies about global warming & if anyone on his show proves he's wrong, he has a tantrum. Just last week it happened because he finally had on 2 intelligent conservatives. And before you go saying I am a rightwinger, you are wrong. I considered myself liberal until I realized it was all a fake puppet show.

  • You are so insightful. You look deeply, huh? You are a real researcher.

  • The problem with Bill Maher's Psuedoscience is that he has a Point. He is a little over-paranoid, sure. One could argue it's exaggeration and/or generalization. But he's right that it's pretty damned ridiculous when the Pharmaceutical Industry is For-Profit. That should never, under any circumstance, be the case.

  • these people the morons im not even going to watch part 2

  • damn rednecks

  • This guy misquotes Maher completely. He did not say it was completely illegal to practice alternative medicine he said it was illegal for doctors to suggest alternative cancer treatments.

  • @laozi1 Thanks for pointing that out. Even though Maher says stuff I don't agree with often, these kinds of folks seem to have a dislike for him that makes them want to misrepresent him. I think they are not as objective as they want to believe they are.

  • @laozi1 Telling people to use peer review averse quack medicine to cure cancer will likely kill them. No wonder it's illegal.

  • @rememberedhills - Fuck, are you stupid!

  • Comment removed

  • I have no problem with any vaccine as long as it has gone through the proper testing periods and "works". The problems start when for example the "swine flu" vaccine was rushed through without even 1 years testing when if memory serves me correctly its supposed to be 6 years (I think?).

When its a one in a million chance of death due to a vaccine and there are 300 million people in a country, would you want your child to be one of those 300 people?

  • Of course he doesn't follow any organized religion, HE'S INTELLIGENT!! lol

  • @MrLycanthropy He's a moron. He thinks that no one should use vaccines or drugs of any kind.

  • @pkearne No, he thinks people should only use them when they really need them. Because too many people hop themselves up on cough medicine every time they get a sniffle and that's what causes everyone to die of these super-viruses. They don't have immune systems anymore. George Carlin said the same thing, once again, genius.

  • @MrLycanthropy George Carlin is well above maher. Actually he says that ALL drugs are cons. His words not mine. Ill try to find the vid he ses that in if you want. He includes antibiotics and vaccines. Truly bizarre talk to anyone that knows what they're talking about.

  • @pkearne Drugs are cons. You pay way more than you should ever have to pay *just like everything else dealing with hospitals* and then half of it is fake tv advertised bullshit. He never said people should never ever take a drug ever. Your pulling that out of context and making your own statement with it.

  • @MrLycanthropy Im not. Ill find the video seeing as you dont believe me and ill send it to you. Fair enough if you think drugs are cons in terms of expense, but maher thinks they are cons because they dont work. This coming from his extensive background in science. There's another video i watched in which he discusses vaccines with some doctor. To help push his anti vaccine agenda, maher references a quote from a paper from 1954 on flu vaccine. Unbelievable!

  • my god, 57% of viewers here are idiots. "Western Medicine" has more than doubled our life expectancy and you doubt them??

  • @cr9527 think about it, the increase of life expectancy is not only based on better medical care. Less starvation for example, genrally better food supply or better hygienic conditions. But when were talking about Medicine, we cannot forget the surgeons, and they often do a really good job. Thats the problem with critizisers, they often overdo positive aspects, as if they don't exist.

  • @J3robi

Think about it this way, almost Every single developing country is actively reaching for western medicine, including China, India, etc. All at the same time people in the west are trying to look for alternative medicine from these very countries.

Western medicines like vaccines, insulin treatment, and even simple things such as pain killers are helping millions of lives every day. I am really disappointed in Bill Maher in his unfounded, unscientific beliefs about medicine.

  • @cr9527 Has he claimed insulin treatment and pain killers aren't useful? Really? He said that? Well, that is disappointing. But, maybe he didn't actually say that.

  • @shunyotube

Aren't insulin, pain killers a part of the whole "pharmaceuticals" that Bill Maher bashed?

  • @cr9527

If he bashed it all, then yes. I don't know how he worded it, but I suspect he may have gone so far. If he did, I assume he's being over-the-top to make a point. I take it with a grain of salt. I doubt he believes that. I mostly am commenting because it seems some folks want to bash anyone who suggests there may be anything problematic about how a lot of research is done, or that there are actual problems with the system. I think modern medicine is the best, though

  • @shunyotube

    He said (direct quote):

"The reason why we have the giant health care problem is because we are so sick. The reason why we are so sick is because the system we have now, western medicine, the non-alternative medicine, only treats symptoms, that's how they keep the scam going. If you only treat symptoms, of course people are always going to get sicker".

    This is disgusting.

  • @cr9527

OK, I agree that that is a silly statement. But, can you see any glimmer of truth in it?

  • @shunyotube

    All muslims are evil

Can you see a glimmer of truth in it?

    Same thing.

  • @cr9527 Point taken.

  • @cr9527 wow....more than doubled our life expectancy? No, that was sanitation and healthy food, the 2nd of which we're doing away with now. But there are 6 billion people on the planet, if Western medicine is helping that it's bad. We need about 4 billion people to die right about NOW! This planet is grossly overpopulated and we're running out of ways to deal with it.

  • @MrLycanthropy

Food and sanitation without a doubt helped a lot, but so did western medicine. Bill Maher is advocating against western medicine, which is used mainly by the developed countries. So if we were to get rid of western medicine, most of the deaths as a result would be in the developed countries. Are you sure you want westerners to bite the bullet?

  • Médecins Sans Frontières surely love Bill Maher...

  • ok, bill maher is being a conspiracy theorist here... i don't think he's wrong about corporations owning the government, but if to that extent i think they would have the who nascar uniform advertising going on by now... but on other issues with drugs, he stated that "if you believe that you have to be taking all the pills the government says you do then you're already high"... which i think really is true, at least for america... the acceptability of pill popping now is fascinating

  • But...but...but....atheists are always rational! They enjoy preaching about the absurdity of believing in an omnipresent being, but they'll readily

accept new-age remedies and pseudo-science. They drum up all sorts of conspiracies about the medical industry. I recommend watching a Frontline documentary about these anti-vaccine nut jobs. "My son developed Autism 6 months after the shot, therefore it must have been the vaccine." Yeah well, your son also ate Gerber food. Maybe mushed pears did it.

  • Look at him in this picture, he's two different colors.

  • Comment removed

  • @Daniel42948 - Ahaha still ain't given up Mr.Shithead eh? 8+ months of trying to be an internet tough guy and you and your "gangstas" from that shithole Limerick really don't have anything better to do.

Go be a poser somewhere else.

  • Vaccination works.

  • @triskaidekaphobe13 but how can you tell? who's to say the vaccination actually prevented anything? maybe you weren't even going to get sick!! nah, im just screwing around.... i don't think i've had any vaccinations since elementary school, and i really have never been seriously sick since t hen either, so as far as im concerned it isn't worth it... but either way, the vaccine thing is really a personal choice, it doesnt really matter

  • @hawkeye40222 I'm going to have to disagree with you here. A lot of people who are unvaccinated will never get ill, but some children will be unvaccinated and die when they otherwise wouldn't've. I think it's a parental responsibility to protect your children. Between 1900 and 1975 smallpox killed 500,000,000 people. No-one has died of it since... along with antibiotics, vaccination is one of the greatest life-saving breakthroughs in history.

  • @triskaidekaphobe13 fair enough.... but like i said, i HAD gotten vaccinated until a certain point... it just doesn't seem as important after that point... but again, this is based on nothing more than personal experience...

  • @hawkeye40222 And I don't want to argue with you either - you probably received most of your childhood vaccinations though. It just seems to make sense to get vaccinated the option is available.

  • @triskaidekaphobe13 it's a fair point, but as long as i'm healthy i would prefer my own body to continue to function on its own... but i am pretty sure i received most if not all of my childhood vaccinations... but i'm only sixteen and havn't done much research on the matter, so i could be talking complete nonsense without knowing it. you do seem to know what you're talking about better than me

  • @hawkeye40222 All I'll say is that there is plenty of evidence supporting the efficacy of vaccination - most stimulate your immune system the same way that contact with a disease does, but in a less risky way. Certainly, if you are planning to visit countries which have endemic infectious diseases, then vaccination is definitely advisable :)

  • Who is speaking? Who cares? They are idiots, and in no way competent to wash his socks.

  • Bill Maher is on the side of truth. That's why he's so awsome.

  • @JoeTheAgnosticOneCT Maher is awesome, however he is not perfect.

There is a case to be made regarding some of big pharma's claims for some new drugs, however doctors and hospital statistics do spot the problems. Doctors do their own research & prescribe what works in practice.

Most people die of cancer, heart disease or strokes eventually.

meds extend life even up to normal life expectancy very often.

The alternative is the stats before modern medicine; very grim..

Bill needs to get real IMO.

  • I <3 Maher :) Maher is also definitely an atheist. Also, you only quoted him saying "illegal" nothing else... AND marijuana is a perfect alt. med. but the pharmaceutical companies aren't letting gov. legalize it, too bad that your gov. is so damn persuaded by big companies.

  • The people that talk in this video are wankers. I bet their next talk will be if Sam Harris's underwear smells of hindu incense. You know those retarded Christians have a word for people like the ones talking here Pharisees.... You all are against the religious wankers and fundamentalists, "for free speech", but then you propel yourselves to the "Judge Status" were essentially only you are free to use free speech, cause the rest are irrational Neaderthals or something. Get some handjob.

  • Waw, so that data that shows clearly that less and less ppl DIE of cancer, also show how MANY ppl gets cancer these days in contrast with let's say 10 years ago?? Just asking !!! :)

  • you FUCKS are scum :: so interesting to listen to dictionable scum. what a waste of education. I don't know whose ass your kissing but your not helping people putting BULLSHIT like this up.

  • In my opinion, Bill Maher is not anti-science. He is just really sceptical about it. And it's not bad. Science makes mistakes. Often. It is part of scientific process, making mistakes, and if you are not critical enogh, how are you going to notice one?

  • @Helltamirre "Keep an open mind, but not so open that your brain falls out."

    -(most likely) Richard Feynman

    Also

"You know what they call 'alternative medicine that's been proved to work? Medicine." -Tim Minchin

  • @exugoareo Hah, nice quotes.

  • @Helltamirre He IS NOT anti-science. At all. That is his point...the science DOESNT add up...his point is that western medicine IS NOT scientific...but in any case, anyone with 2 brain cells will know he is absolutely right.

  • @cruzangringa Nope... ... ... .... ... !

  • @Helltamirre

Science itself, like all -isms, is neutral. It is the people who f*ck up.

  • @Helltamirre Bill Maher is a really smart guy, but he applies his intelligence only where he wants.

  • @Helltamirre

It's not that I disagree with your views on the necessity of skepticism, but I do think you mischaracterize Maher's position on this. He's not being "skeptical", he's merely trying to back up his ill-informed views on medical science with nonsense data. It's a one-sided and awfully irrational thing.

  • That big pharma exerts undue influence over medical policy and is motivated by the bottom line and not public health is a no-brainer. That the medical establishment has consistently marginalized and denigrated alternative medicine is a no brainer. OF COURSE THEY HAVE! To equate alternative medicine with quackery is more of the same. Shame on you! There are plenty of quacks practicing conventional medicine and plenty of alternative medical practice that is effective. Maher is funny, you're not.

  • You don't ask comedians about medicine. He's not a doctor.

  • Pharmacudical companies profit off of people being sick, they don't want cures.

Eating healthy is the best way to stay healthy.

  • well no it's not factually wrong i kn people working in the health community who say this kinda stuff is going on

  • THE GOVERNMENT DOES HAVE THERE HANDS ON OUR MEDICINE YOU FUCKS ARE YOU OUT OF UR GOD DAM MIND.... These have to be the 3 dumbest fucking people i have ever ever ever heard speak

  • what is this??? a tiny college radio station? you guys suck!!!

  • Wrong use of picture.

  • i dont think i have ever been this mad over commentators that aren't on fox news.

  • eh? 10+ minutes whining about a person(bill maher) who is right about some things and wrong about some?! DUH.

  • On this topic Bill Maher really deserves one more Pigasus-award. Big Pharma sure has it's flaws and needs to be kept on a short leash, sometimes shorter than today. But just contemplate how many AIDS-survivors there were in 1985 and compare that with 2005, from around 0% to almost 100% i 2 decades. That's innovation and progress.

  • What Bill Maher says and what you say are just opinions....i did not exactly understand what you "got" on Bill but when he was talking about the U.S medicine he meant i guess the anti-depressants and drugs that doctors give to the bigger part of your nation as i heard...and by the way when you talk try to say "We think" before you start to actually say something because you speak without evidence.

  • "people may get a death sentence, but then live a bit longer than the doctors thought..." how retarded of a comment is that? IT IS STILL A DEATH SENTENCE DUMB SHIT! plus these idiots state that mahrs stance on deism is somewhat obscure.... then make reference to his anti-religion movie! how ignorant....must be why he is on nation tv and receiving awards, but these nit wits are who????EXACTLY!

  • This commentary is actualy a lot funnier than the show itself.... LOL

  • The way to get Bill Maher to believe in 911 conspiracy theories is to tell him big pharma did it.

  • Its possible that he is very illinformed on many topics rather then irrational. And dousnt have great powers of logical deduction there just big enough to shake off religiouse beliefs over a long period of time. So because of this while wanting to be and attempting to be a rationalist he isnt able to take the common stance of a rationalist on all issues. But i dont know. Its just a alternative hypothsis i dont really have any thing to back it up.

  • Over the rainbow? I'm sorry did I miss a meeting? There is still no cure for cancer assholes. God forbid you do become diagnosed with it with out any money. And that stupid bitch is wrong doctors give death sentences all the time
