@S2Stony I disagree. Savage 1 is both to an equal amount. Decent Melee game, good FPS, good RTS. Savage 2 is medocre at max: medocre Melee, bad FPS, bad RTS, medocre RPG. Savage 2 is super beginner friendly and has shiny graphics, is boring but less frustrating and more balanced for random public games. If you are an ambitious and/or experienced gamer aiming for unique gameplay and competitive gaming, go for Savage 1. If you like some alternative casual games now and then, go for Savage 2.

People love Savage 2 because it has shiny graphics and is different to other games, but in fact it is a very disappointing sequel that got almost no support from the original community.

No varied map design, unlike Savage1 - Virtually identical classes - Terrible combat system, unlike S1 - Terrible economic system, unlike S1 - No upgrades at all, unlike S1 - No real tech levels, unlike S1 - Useless ranged weapons, unlike S1 - Unfair persistent items, unlike S1 - Premium content, unlike S1.

The game play is perfect imo, and after playing Savage 2 and Savage 1, I prefer Savage 2. The community is one of the best, always great and funny conversations.

The issues are the several bugs and the server instability, as well as the issue with the replays. Though most people easily enjoy the game nonetheless.

If you're gonna hate- hate on S2Games, not Savage 2, for moving on to HoN and other games, leaving S2.

@leonid1995 Do you know that S2Games supported Savage 2 around 5 times longer than Savage 1? S1 had just as much bugs as S2. The last S1 patch was released 4 months after the release. The official S1 servers were shut down few months later. All S1 patches released in the past 7 years were created by the community. The community kept the game alive, S2Games gave a shit about Savage 1. Imagine a game with boring S2 gameplay would have been released back then, it would have died in 2-3 months.

When Savage 1 starts getting fun, Savage 2 already started getting boring. I don't hate S2Games for creating HoN. HoN is a great competitive game. But Savage 2 (as a sequel) was a big mistake. They didn't understood what was good about their first game, they didn't listen to the community, they failed.

If you suck or if you play boring it will be boring watching you. Savage has unrealistic parts which are great fun, because they allow you to become very good at the game.

I think we can agree on that. They share elements, but they obviously couldn't be the same game. S2 Games didn't want to rest on it's laurels. They decided to refine the game the way they chose to by being innovative and taking risks.

The whole S2Games staff that was involved with creating Savage 2 was terribly bad at playing Savage 1, which was designed by a different team (Sam McGrath, Travis Stringer, Trevor Stringer etc). They didn't understand what was good about their first game and sucked at it. It wasn't really about not wanting to rest on their laurels. Creating Savage 2 wasn't especially risky nor innovative.

Savage 2 does have micro-payments. It's not enough to buy the game. No, you have to grind to get random runes (you can't decide which ones) that give you advantage over other players. If you want the runes instantly or if you want specific runes you can rent them for a limited time (like 6 months). The micro-payments in Savage 2 are just as gay as in Combat Arms, Warrock and other games which aren't worth your time.

@signalgrau83 Runes don't make much of a difference. If a player is good enough to beat me, he will always beat me regardless of whether he has runes or not. Believe, i've been playing this game for two years, you can earn runes for free very quickly, so quickly in fact, that most people don't realize how many they've stockpiled for free. At any rate, whether you get them for free or buy them, they only provide a tiny advantage. Think of it in basketball terms, the shoes don't make the man.

If you gave those runes to a new player, he would still lose the duel to the veteran, simply because the veteran know how to avoid getting hit. If anything it might make something of a difference between two evenly matched players that aren't very skilled at blocking. In my experience, when someone pops dagger runes, i usually use the runes i earned for free to counter.

Savage 2 doesn't have micro-payments. Players can choose to buy runes, but you can literally earn dozens of runes for free and they'll last you for months and eventually years. Almost no one actually buys them since you get them for free. I've been playing Savage 2 for two years and i still have free runes in my inventory and more to unlock by achieving certain in-game goals.

@MrPepsiPower More than likely, when purchasing on steam, they assume you want to buy a prime account (one-time payment of $9.99 USD). But Savage 2 is free to play. I played for over a year without a prime account and i was very competitive. A prime account gives you access to a few extra features (statistics, two extra inventory slots, and the ability to sell the souls of your slain enemies for access to hellbourne units, ability to start a clan, replays) but nothing that breaks the game.

Savage2 is a MELEE oriented game. So ranging, while not useless. Is highly not recommended in close range combat. You can do much more damage with melee. It's a pretty hard game though with a steep learning curve. But it's alot of fun. @Hurly that's complete bullshit :)

Sadly ranging has increased although this is a melee-orientated game.

If the enemy humans are ranging you - just charge into melee range and shred them to pieces with your claws :D

Savage 2 got rejected by the vast majority of the original Savage Community. Savage 2 is still alive because it became Freeware and attracted people that didn't experience the depth of Savage: The Battle for Newerth.
