I really think that the "Thin Blue Line" with Rowen Atkinson is equal to Fawlty Towers. If you never checked it out then it's a must. I am the biggest Fawlty Towers fan in the world but trust me when I say that The Thin Blue Line is equal. They only made 14 episodes.
@LeftyPlaysRighty i'll never forget that scene when Basil allowed Manuel to use the kitchen to cook up his native dish for a special occasion, Terry the Chef wasn't very happy, a few scenes later they come back ,and there's Terry and Manuel rolling around the kitchen floor having a fight
seldom do you see a show over 40 years old that still genuinely makes you laugh in a world that's since seen the simpsons, howard stern, family guy, chris rock, etc..
my parents got this as a set of vhs tapes when I was younger and I practically wore them out...you find new things to laugh at each time...you understand a basil mumbling that you couldn't before, you see a manuel face that never gets old...enough can't be said about this show man
@Efteldingetjes when that rat popped out of the cracker box , the whole family couldn't stop laughing , and when you saw Manuel drag out Basil by the feet when he collapsed, well that was even funnier
Wow Andrew Sachs has a lot of grey in his hair, that is natural, it is just weird when you have never seen him for like 30 years and remember him as what he was like in the 1970's.
RIP Ballard Berkely, (Major Gowen) Gilly Flowers and Renee Roberts (the two older ladies) Donald Sinclair (He was the inspiration for the character of Basil Fawlty). they are all remembered.
i wonder what it'll belike if they had a remake...no more phones, no more typewriter, theyd have to have internet...and a whole range of new services. would be fun to see how 'Basil' copes. :) More demands, more aggravation :)
is it just me or did those competition winners come across as some of the most geeky dull people you could meet? I bet JC was dying to get away from them
Another reason why I love British culture and humour, American humour falls short on that point.
"Fawlty Towers" is so hilariously funny for all the wrong reasons, I mean Basil abuses Manuel and is constantly rude to all the guests, while all Sybil does is to nag and yell at Basil. So wrong and yet I laugh constantly, thats what you call humour!
Together with "Black Adder" the best British comedy show ever, a real treasure that should be preserved for future generations!
I've noticed when TV hosts and reporters do stories on anything Fawlty Towers or Monty Python related - they always come off horribly desperate to be as funny, don't they? Which is impossible really. They should just follow this advice... just leave the funny to the experts.....
@zephranna01 at one time cleese had an idea for a `special` in which basil is flying to spain to visit manuels family the plane is hi-jacked and in a fit of rage basil overcomes the hi-jackers .sadly it was never made
Wouldn't it be really awkward for John Cleese and Connie Boothe to meet up again? They were married but then got DIVORCED. I wouldn't want to see them again!
@PurpleFunnyChocolate They ended on good terms and there's a nice picture out with the two of them laughing together at this reunion. Not every couple breaks up on bad terms, you know.
@zephranna01 No. I agree with Cleese. It is shocking that the 2nd series was as good as the 1st. I just don't think they would be able to top it and that would be devestating for the show.
Too much commentary, not enough of the subject. Fawlty Towers needs no intro, just let us meet the cast. I loved them when they were young, I'm older now, and want to hear from them and see them as they have aged. They are still beautiful, talented and significant. ?Certainly in my life and my kids. We regularly quote every episode and laugh every time.
Cybill pretty much looks the same as 30 years ago.

@LeftyPlaysRighty You mean Terry right? Brian Hall who played Terry on Fawlty Towers died in 1997 from cancer.
