  • This one that one this one... LOL good tutorial!

  • Do you think I can use aerosol paint for a solid base coat color ? After this, i'm gonna use pastels for details. Is it a good idea ? Sorry for my bad english, i'm french ;) Nice tutorial !

  • @missmarieloveJB Its best to use arcylics when you would like to put a base coat color down on your model. Spray paint or aerosol are not the best for this due to all sorts of reasons.

  • Instead of mat finish would a glue adhesive work??

  • @bearbaby0419 No, That would kill your model.

  • Oh no I don't where a mask I better though eakkkkks

  • ok

  • where can you get the pastel set? Also how do you prime the horse?

  • @laddybug324 Please look at all videos on how to paint a model in my gallery

  • Can you make a vid of specificly of how to do a buckskin horse please? with dapples, coz im doing a commission or someone :3

  • i agree rubing it off the stick is better then shaving the pastel dust off

  • @breyerlover32 I use both ways. Depending on how much color I would like and look.

  • What medium do you use for the paint horses?

I looked at your website (its awesome) and saw your paint section, I was just asking how do you apply the white to your paint horses?

When I do my white it cracks and falls of? Is it because of the primer, pastel dust or just the brand of paint?

  • " mix this one and this one but if you dont want this one put this and this one one or mix this and this one"....

  • what do u use from primer?

  • @horsefanatic2 Please check out my primer video

  • thank you ^_^

  • could you tell me exactly how to use the krylon matte finish? every time i use it, the next layer comes out grainy looking and the pastels don't seem to want to stick to the finish

  • @terriertimetoo its not the matte finish that making it grainy, It is the pastels them self. If you dont get all the bitts of dust and thing off the model before spraying thats what happens.

  • @FreeMare wow thanks. mine is doing that too and I couldn't figure out what was wrong! :)

  • do you live in NJ, idk if im wrong sorry :P im making my first custom soon

  • @horsejumpgal nope AZ

  • Whats that stuff called, what finish, was it like max finish? Sorry I'm from Australia.

  • @HORSESforever1013 No matte finish.

  • Do you collect schliech as well?

  • @FreeMare

Schliech is pretty good, I've got heeps

  • This helped me a lot, thanks!

  • great video but the partv where u said mix this with this one that really made no sence sorry

  • @modelhorsecollector1 This is a older video and Is outdated. my new videos on how to pastel or more into step by step.

  • do you experiment and mix pastel colours to get the right colours??

  • @ILPonies99 For me I know off the bat what colors to use as I have been working with colors for year, but if you are new then its best to do tests horses.

  • Are those chalk or oil pastels?

  • @horsesruleohya soft chalk pastels

  • @FreeMare

    Okay, thank you! :)

  • You would spray your horse and then put this one on and mix it with this one, and then mix that one with this one and then if you don't want that one you mix this one with this one, and then this one you put on after this one, but leave that one by itself.

    xD Great for dislexics.

  • this one then this one only if you dont want this one so mix it with this one or this one this this that that xDDDDDDDDD

  • @XxBreyerHorsexX I never knew the names of the colors, So I had to do that ^^

  • @FreeMare Oh haha xD (Sorry i i offended u...)

  • what should you use for the mane and tail?

  • @RiderAndHorse acrylics

  • exactly what pastel pack did you get?

  • @mereinhardt its a starter kit at the art store that I got

  • How long do you have to wait before you can put the second coat on after putting the matte finish on?

  • @Roisty09 around 20 mins

  • Wow really helpful thanx! Also, what kind of primer do you use?

  • @breyercrazy12 krylon

  • Cool! Are you sure that the matte finish really $2? I'm going to the store tonight, so I'll find out anyway, but I was just wondering. Nice stablemate body, where did you get it like that? Without the paint?

  • @BebitBarrelRacer It deppends on the store. Some are $5 then others are $3. No. He was prepped model that I prepped my self with primer spray.

  • what type of pastels do you use

  • @spirit201 soft

  • fluff fluff fluff fluff haha i laughed so hard but it was really helpful!!thank you!

  • so when you said to use matt finish you might have said another is krylon workable fixatif is that ok and where do you get the white primer paint

and do you have to wear a mask when your applying the fixatif stuff?

  • @TheHorseluv You can use both. But make sure to go to matte finish as it has more of a seal on pastles. Yes you must all ways wear a mask. The paint from the cans is vary toxic

  • k were can u get a dusk mask?

  • @Breyercullen Walmart, hardware store....

  • @FreeMare thanks LOLZ!! R U goin to breyerfest?

  • haha good tutorial lol mix this with this but if you don't want this then mix this with this lol i just ordered some soft pastels =D

  • will this work for other models like schleich? but im totally going to try this

  • @KoolWhip0315 Yes it should work for any model.

  • where can i find the pastels, would they be at any craft store, and do u have a good brand that is not very expensive that u could recumend to me. thank you

  • Try your local art store. Most graft stores will not carry them. Well most brands are not super high in price. I got a full set of mine that around $10

  • @FreeMare ok thank you

  • this was extremly helpful! thanks!

  • Lol, how can you prime a model when it's below freezing outside? xD Because it never sets on the model and practically ruins it. :(

  • Well there are a few ways you can do it. One if you have a car gurage that you can go into and prim. Other then that you have to wait. As it will do some bad damage to the model if you try and prime in the snow.

  • @FreeMare Thanks, I just watched your Primer tutorial. I think I'm gonna do it in my basement. Thanks again! I subbed. C:

  • I do have a DVD on how to prime and Prep model horses that I just got out the other day. I have the next DVD coming out later to day.

  • @FreeMare Really? How much would one be? ^_^

  • hi i luv this vid! i just got home from hobby lobby and got matte finish, blending stubs ( i think thts wat they are called) more nice pastels and brushes etc. so how do i use blending stubs and do u spray the finish on ur horse after every layer of pastel?? thank u!!!

  • Well I dont use blending stubs as they can scratch the primer. Yes after each layer spray then let it dry for a 20 mins then do a new layer spray and keep going

  • yay!! I'm following your steps and last night I did it's yellowy cream color and sprayed it and now today I'm going to do another couple layers! thanks soooo much!!!

  • Sure thing ^^

  • i burst out laughing when you started gettin mixed up for example: if you want this color you mix it with this one then that one would make a good mix and that one is amazing with this and that color and and if you mix these colors it comes up like that or this and this or that!!!!!!! XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XP XP XP XP I LOVE YOUR VID!!!!

  • Thanks ^^ LOL. I got my self all messed up

  • thanx for making this video it has really help me! Could you make some more tutorials of customizing? plz plz plz plz plz!

  • Yes I will have more up later.

  • i thin your tutorial is ok but i like saturnine studios better no offence

  • hey I have a couple of questions, first, how would you pastel a cremelo with light sage green eyes, secondly, can you use sponge tip aplacaters for the pasteling, and thirdly, what do you use chalk, soft of some other kind of pastels??? please resond!!!

  • Same steps in the video just use diffrent colors. You can put it will not go on var well. Yes soft pastles.

  • Sorry for asking all these questions, but I have 1 more, if you have a breyer horse with some small scratches and you pastel them over/in and the you spray the sealer will it be the same look/finish??

  • Thats cool. No. Pastel will show every little falt that the horse may have. You have to fill them or sand them out.

  • just like your collection of your model horses

  • you want to see all my horses?

  • I can never finnish the painting

  • sweet, i just staerte pasteling

  • you shoud do avdeo of all your breyers

  • Like all the customs I have done or somthing else?

  • how do u get unpainted beryer horses? BTW awsome advice my painted customs r kinda werid LOL

  • Well it deppends on what you mean by unpaint. Like get the old paint off? get paint off the horse like acrylics? so forth
