One aspect of the trick that you're leaving out which is very important is that the spectator cuts the deck to select the three cards and then mixes the three cards placed on the table and decides which packet they correspond to. Much stronger effect that way. Otherwise it looks like you're simply doing some fancy cutting and placing the cards you want in front of each packet. Makes the first part a little less improbable. :)
