  • They should rematch. today Russia would destroy USA

  • @Xyoutubx3rsunit Wow.. I'd like to know why you think that. >_>

  • @Xyoutubx3rsunit Hint hint. *THIS VIDEO* Russia was SUPPOSED to destroy us here. They obviously didn't accomplish that.

  • User shoulda won

  • I was dating my first true love and we were in her living room making out when this game was playing. I missed most of it, but saw the ending.

  • WOW. 32 years ago today. Thanks for the memories.

  • Chick with big rack at 2:54 tan sweater jumping up and down. USA USA USA!!!!!

  • 11 PEOPLE VOTED FOR OBAMA.

  • Best moment in sports history. Thumbs up if you agree!

  • 32 years ago today, USA 4 USSR 3

  • today is the 32nd anniversary of the miracle on ice

  • Unglaublich wenn man bedenkt das es Collegespieler sind und die das damals beste Team geschlagen haben aber ich finde das mehr als geil die UDSSR hat es verdient zu verlieren

  • On this Feb 22, 1980 I cried and patriotism washed through me. On this date, Feb 22, 2012 after watching this, the tears still flow and the patriotism will never leave.

  • I wish I could say I was alive to watch this, but I was alive to watch the movie

  • Go USA

  • Goosebumps every single time I watch this

  • Incredible to watch and remember. I was there in person, sitting right next to Dick Pound, Canadian IOC member, on the red line in the reserved IOC seats. Watched every US hockey game in those Olympics live, always from that section. Only problem was I couldn't jump up and down in my seats screaming my fucking head off. Nice seats though and a great game. (Extraordinary understatement intended). So involved on the Olympics as a volunteer I didn't know the rest of the US was watching. Go USA!!!

  • @teledancer Dick Pound is a awfully funny name!!!

  • I've seen this clip so many times and I still get the chills when I watch it

  • Why does it show only the USA scoring what hapened to the Sovet team

  • It's funny how this wasn't even the gold medal game. Imagine what things would have been like if we lost the gold medal game.

  • wish i was there during the game

  • Mark "Magic"Johnson - Son of Badger Bob, 3 National Championships at University of Wisconsin, Mark Coach of Wisconsin's Wonen's Hockey 5 National Championships. Greatest Upset in Sports History. Unknown college kids beat the BEST hockey Team the World had ever seen. Stll 32 years later it is UNBELIEVABLE!!!

  • 4:02 Had their sign upside down.

  • pinches gringos, donde estan los goles de los rusos?

  • @COWBOY8856 what spic?

  • only problem with this video is that I have to clean my pants every time I watch it

  • How is that a miracle? Bullshit. America (very populous country indeed) winning against USSR. Czechoslovakia (tiny country) beating USSR in hockey or Lithuainia beating USA in basketball. That is some miracle. But you with your Americanocentric worldview can't comprehend that do you?

  • @jecis1990 You sound like a burthurt russian

rofl russians are a joke in the nhl bud none of them try hard

  • @jecis1990 the russians were considered the best team on the planet. They played the nhl allstars this year. that consisted of more the just the "us" and they beat the nhl allstars. So for a bunch of college kids to beat the best most veteran team is inded a miracle

  • @jecis1990 They were college players who beat the best team the world had seen up to that point. Miracle.

  • @jecis1990 The USSR was men in there 30's that played hockey everyday to be the best if they didn't they would die basically and the USA at that time had 18 to 20+ year olds that had no faith behind them

  • @jecis1990 These were collage kids amateurs at best beating some of the best players to play the game not to mention this was an all out war this was at the height of the Soviet Union and if your listened to the video the average age on the US team was 21.

  • Fucking Bastard(s)! Show only American goals. Thats what I call propoganda. Chauvinists

  • @jecis1990 well I don't know about that. In a war you show your own boys being killed then respond with triumphant footage. This clip would be more propagandist if they did show the USSR goals. I liked the clip but did want to see the Russian goals

  • i know nothing about the game but i remember sitting up every night it was telecast back to australia , so good , :)) was so hoping the yanks could pull it off :)) great special moment in history

  • now 8 people are russians. communism is spreading D:

  • FUCK YOU KEN DRYDEN..... damn canadian!

  • hey lithu-whine-ia....suck my eruzione...im sure you watched it in black and white ten years after learning the cccp DIDNT win

  • I was 16 and living in upstate NY when this happened. I wasn't even into Hockey. As it progressed on TV, however, I couldn't take my eyes off of it! 2 years later, some friends of mine and I went to the site to ski. Lake Placid, NY. baby !!! USA!

  • USA USA!

  • Love the quote about"I bet there are a lot ofpeople in here who dont know the difference between a blue line and a clothes line....""

  • @1089jcw im not sure but i think he ment close line like in football when ur neck and head get hit and u fly backward.

  • would've liked to see the soviet goals too

  • Why do "highlights" consist of only American goals? It's the GAME that was exciting!

  • more to come.. i am Lithuanian and i don't like this video because it ismade only for americans... it would be better if you would show all goals.. and please don't say that highlights are ONLY team USA

  • The day after this game was played, I got my first hockey stick. This week it was decided my son's Squirt team is going to Lake Placid for a tournament. He's seen the movie many times and I've told him stories but nothing can compare to what it was like watching it on TV.

  • The color of the ice had nothing to do with camera's or video quality. This video looks remarkably well kept for 31 or so yrs old. In fact it looks almost exactly the way I remember it looking when I watched it live in 1980. I had CBC where I lived and watched HNIC every Saturday night back then and I an tell you that the ice was white and the cameras had no problem with light reflection or anything like that. The ice in the arena was dyed blue to match the Olympic logo colors, that's all.

  • Eruzione = Eruption (in Italian)!!!!!!!!

  • @bersa888 Well in that case, I have an Eruzione in my pants every time I watch these highlights.

  • what 6 losers disliked this ?????

  • 31 years later, I still get a little teary eyed when I see this.

  • USA UNFUCKING BELEVABLE

  • The greatest upset in sports history...basically equivalent to a varsity HS hockey team beating a pro team...the Soviet team was beyond the NHL teams.

Ken Dryden...great goaltender but terrible color commentator...essentially talked over the Eruzione goal...meanwhile Al Michaels perfectly chose the expression to the match the moment.

  • gives me the chills every time i watch this

  • All you showed were the USA goals and the celebrations at the end of the match... I'd say that's not really highlights, especially considering all the saves Jim Craig made.

  • I like the highlights but including the Soviet goals would have given it more perspective.

  • makes me proud to be an american

  • I love Al Michael's collar

  • i had goosebumps for like 1 hour after i saw this video :O

  • Greatest moment in American sports history!

  • Un-Fucking-Believable!

  • this never gets old. I actually played on that ice surface 1 month after......will always love lake placid

  • Quality, but the greatest sporting moment of all time???? nah.

  • lol al michaels is so young

  • I was 13 at the time and watched it live - I had been playing hockey for several years - it was amazing.

  • I was 15 and watching this with my dad. Neither of us knew anything about hockey but we did that day. We were one win away from a gold and we had no business beating the soviets but we did.

  • 3 people are russians

  • I well recall watching this game. American "boys" against Russian men. I never dreamed the US would win. Awesome.

  • weird neal broten played with fetisov.

  • i had just had a game there this weekend and played the champonship of my tourny in that rink. I scored we won 5-2 and i will never ever forget it ever. What a thrill it was to play there. i am honored. Even was in the same locker room they were in. locker room 5 truly unbelieve

  • Best Hockey Game....EVER!!!

  • Americaaa, fuck yeah!!!

  • I skated the olympic oval in lake placid with Eruzione and the whole team on the 25 anniversary of the miracle, and later that night, had pizza with Steve janaszak in lake placid. I grew up in Saranac Lake, 6 miles from Lake Placid...

  • the ice is blue because the old timey TV cameras couldnt handle the white reflection of the lights.

  • @cameraperson Wrong, this is just a bad copy, I saw it live and it looked just fine plus I've seen plenty of ice from the 60's-80's and it never looked blue.

  • @headly66

Google "pg2_a_teamUSA_576.jpg" - I learned that from Sandy Caliagiore who ran PR for the rinks for years. I didnt make that up, sir. The camera picks up the blue dye more than your eyes, it was for the crows nest tube cams that had a hard time with the glare from the lights. They had a hard time keeping the ice frozen and that made the problem worse. Seriously, do a google image search for the game, and you'll see the slight blue dye. Why would I make that up?

  • @headly66

view my story called "Miracle On Ice story I shot with Mark Sudol at WPTZ hearst" - it's direct from original 3/4" tape shot by the local NBC affiliate WPTZ that I worked for. For this video I transferred from original tape and (Avid) edited into my story about radio broadcaster & ORDA PR director, Sandy Caligiore, who told me about the dye in the ice. He was there & he worked at ORDA for many years. The blue is dye, not bad video.

It took me a while to find my video, sorry.

  • Wasn't even born when this happened, but I can't watch it without getting goosebumps and chills up my spine.

  • The Super Bowl is NOTHING compared to this!!

  • this is one of the many reasons why we should be PROUD to be Americans!

  • when eruzione score look at the goalie he raises his hand and looks like hes celebrating kuz he got scored on

  • wtf?! i wanna see the soviet goals too.

  • 6:45. One of the greatest shots in tv history!!

  • @steelersfan7238 I correct myself...the greatest shot in TV history!!

  • Best game of all time, in any sport, period.

  • Rest in peace Herb Brooks!

  • this is EXACTLY like the movie "miracle"

  • Ken Dryden went on to become a Canadian cabinet minister.

  • I am Canadian, and it still gives me chills to watch this. I was ten years old when I watched it live on TV. Couldn't believe it then, and it is still amazing to this day. Probably the best moment in sports history.

  • America, fuck yeah!

  • @TheLoserSakaTheOiler No one cares about boring, cracker assed canada.

  • No wonder we won, 13 Minnesota boys on the team! They dont call Minnesota "The State of Hockey" for Nothing!

  • @Mortskcab ... but the winning goal in this game was scored by a Boston boy ... USA goalie was a Boston boy too ... !

  • Do you believe in miracles gives me the goosebumps everytime

  • this is why we play hockey.

  • 2 who watched this video are russians

  • i rember it like yeaster day

  • Love the video, love the game, love the story.

    BUT

"Best damn mind blowing moment in Sports history?" No

"Best damn mind blowing moment in AMERICAN Sports history?" Maybe. Just because you beat the soviets, your nemesis, doesnt make it Sports History. Half the world have no idea about this game.

I love hockey over any Sport. But seriously americans, get over the fact that there's a tiny little world outside your country.

  • @thechules Its not about being the best thats what made the game so great. We were not better then the soviets they kicked ass its like they said if we played them 9/10 times they would have won 9 times. It was this game, it was the situation a group of college kids getting to know each other facing one of the greatest hockey teams in Olympic history that played together for years and years and beating them. So before you go around and hate on "americans" think about what your saying!

  • @thechules This is definitely and easily the biggest moment in American sports moment. Not just because of the game itself, but because of everything that surrounded and led up to the game. The politics between the countries were huge at the time obviously. The Soviet team were techncially "amateurs" only because they were not allowed to play for any professional leagues. This moment can never be created again becasue of the game itself, the david v goliath and the politics. Nothing can match it

  • @thechules You are missing everything that made this the biggest moment in American sports. Your whole "tiny little world" comment is mute. America isn't asking anyone else to appreciate this moment so have no idea why you thought you needed to say that. Find another sporting event with a more obvious David v Goliath scenario. American morale was down, cold war was raging, Soviets aren't losing to anyone and somehow a bunch of "true" amatuers defeats them.

  • @thechules brush up on your history!

soviets hadnt defeated in any sport at the olympics in almost a decade!

everyone who wasnt russian or a russian fan was pulling for anyone who was playing against russia

also this was the height of the cold war, america was being defeated left and right in every single thing that happened.

  • haha this is so funny its almost sad

the soviet team was like the best team ever and the US was hella amateur

  • I wish someone had the gold medal ceremony where they all jumped up on the podium. No one seems to have saved that.

  • I don't get it.

  • 4:14 what a BEAUTY of a snapshot

  • "Five seconds left in the game...DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?! YES!!!"

  • After Canada beet the Soviets in '72, we showed that the soviets can be beet, and the Americans knew they could do it even though they were college kids, they did it, what a miracle!

  • @NarutoDude134

nope. it was the result of hard work and perseverance. It wasn't because canada showed they could be beat. It was because these kids wanted it, they wanted it bad, and they worked 110% for it.

  • @MegaJoe63 and they deserved the victory to! They did work hard (Harder then anyone else I bet!) and they persevered, but you do half to admit they could of been inspired by the Canadians too, but you are right It was because they worked hard and persevered.

  • @NarutoDude134

oh. lol i guess i misunderstood. it was just your wording then, canada i don't think inspired them but they probably opened there eyes to the idea of beating the soviet union.

  • I think I have 14000 of the 29000 views

  • Was this the most famous game ever played?

  • @Joll11 yes, yes it was

  • AWESOME

  • bob suter lives down the street from me

  • Mark Johnson is a stud.

  • no one expected us to do anything....so we took EVERYTHING

  • When there is a true miracle, words can only describe so much. One of these moments occurred here.

  • Im almost 8 yrs old watching a black and white tv in my room with my dad. My dad asks me if i know what it means to have heart? i reply what is it dad? he tells me.. finish what you start.

  • by the way they were celebrating, i thought this was the finals.

  • Mark Johnson is the man.

  • Best sports call ever, unless your a communist. Obama must hate this.

  • @joshjhutton you seriously need to throw around that bullshit on a video about the miracle on ice? fuck off.

  • @moistpoop81 Why deny he's a communist. Everyone knows it.

  • This sends shivers down my spine! :D

  • this was 10 years before i was born but i saw a replay in 1999 i shit my pants when i saw this i was like "What?" "what a miracle!"

  • This makes me cry. The reason I love hockey<3

  • the amazing thing was is the team that beat the USSR was not built w the best in the NHL. The NHL all-stars played the USSR and lost wicked bad. These were a bunch of college player who kicked ass. At maybe the height of the Cold War. Average age 22! Still had to beat Finland! MAny think this was the gold medal game!

  • i wish i was there

  • This was probably the beginning of the Soviet collapse

  • Fucking fantastic!

  • usa

  • U cant watch that enough Over and over and Over

  • How unbalanced. You should have showed the Russian goals to provide some balance to the video.

  • America, Fuck Yeah!

  • This is the only dream team that ever existed in the 20th centry.

  • where did you get the full game?

  • remove the superfluous distracting text and repost please

  • Super Miracle that remains in history of USA sports

  • This brings tears to my eyes.

  • I am so proud to be American. This gives me the chills watching it. USA 2014!!

  • yo Mark Wells is my uncle and he said it was the best experiance of his lfe. he had 2 points in the olympics

  • @ Bennilasvegas, you are obviously outmatched in wit, knowledge, and balls. take a seat. only the weak take your position of racism.

  • @Bennilasvegas, you must be honestly retarded. During this time the Russians weren't poor and we weren't rich. The USA was terrified of the soviet union during this time because of how strong Russia was. So get your facts right before you try and talk. Yes we were lucky in this game but there is nothing wrong with luck. This is deffently one of the biggest upsets in sports history. So instead of being a complete dick head and making yourself look like a complete retard just stop talking.

  • Hey, bennilasvegas, wanna take back the jewish comment? My grandfather died in the holocaust, you fuckwad.

  • @zacks14 I feel for u man, now watch him scream at me since I tried to defend you

BTW going to the Holocaust in a week hope it shows me more about one of the most tragic, depressing yet powerful times in world history

    RIP to ur grandfather

  • going to the Holocaust Museum, that is

  • A bunch of hard working young kids...God that was awesome!!!!

  • Never ever gets old. I could watch this over and over. Love it.

  • a legendary moment in USA Olympic hockey

  • and a legendary moment in usa sports in general!

  • @bennilasvegas

you are so fucking stupid. this is the same as a seasoned pros vs college students. USA won. get the fuck over it faggot

  • Comment removed

  • @bennilasvegas Great moment in sports history, that's undeniable, but ur jewish comment was harsh dude

  • The Russians were pros and the us team were basically scrubs compared to the Russian team. That same Russian team crushed the pro us team and then this new us team that consisted of all college kids beat the Russian pros and then went on to beat Finland for gold. This is deffently a big deal and one of the best moments in sports history.

  • The characterization of this match as "some old guys against young men" is simplistic at best, moronic at worst. The Soviet Olympic machine left nothing to chance. The members who were soldiers were soldiers in name only. Their job was to play. Their team had played together for a long time before the Olympics. They even held a winning record against NHL teams. To say the Soviet team wasn't made up of professionals is to be naive beyond measure.

  • this is so insane. probably the biggest upset in sports history. i wish i was alive and apart of this game. this video gives me goosebumps.

  • Is it pathetic that this brings tears to my eyes? Unbelievable, greatest moments in sports history bar none.

  • woohoo! USA USA USA!!! by the way congrats to canada for winning the gold medal in hockey(men and women) in the recent winter games. great job! but this here will always go down as "THE GREATEST MOMENT IN SPORTS HISTORY". wish i was alive @ the time to have seen this. this is also among many historical events and figures that inspire me to do better and continue on with my life. it shows that anyone can make a difference. and the 1980 us olympic hockey proved that.

  • I'll never forget this game, even though we knew the outcome, it was still great.

  • Comment removed

  • obviously you don't get it. The Soviets were all or t least most of their team were soldiers. All they did was train. These were college students. College students vs adults in the army... hmm

  • Comment removed

  • @bennilasvegas Yeah but the Soviets trained like all day just on HOCKEY! I mean in the military alone, you do so much like cardio, strength and way more while full time college students barely training. It is a big deal so obviously you still don't get it. You fail. Sit down. Get laid. USA!

  • @bennilasvegas Why do you think it's called "The Miracle on Ice"...? It says it all in the title or you just can't read.

  • Comment removed

  • You're calling me stupid? Learn some grammer and how to spell you fucking idiot.
