You know, I had to order this album off the net. Since I was sixteen, "Play my Funk" and "Blue Jeans" have stuck with me. Nobody seems to know what happened to Erica, though.
@luchador21 actually IMHO this was a type of SEQUEL to the true Golden Age. Most would say between 87-90. A LOT of seminal groups either debuted or had sophmore projects that were better than the FIRST album. ie,PE with it Takes A Nation... and Eric B. And Rakim with Follow The Leader. Both in 88. There's a lot more but I agree the mid 90's was a type of 2nd Golden Age. Pac,BIG,Snoop,Dre,etc.

Also as fans we must keep upcoming hiphop artists and more established acts from the 90's and now alive. Via of concert tickets or Cd purchases. Independent underground hip Artists can still do platnum numbers or be pushed into radio rotation without a major record companies behind them. but its up to the consumers to do the other half .and independent radio djs ( mainly internet basement stations to push and not follow whats being played on main stream radio.) consumers to buy the album
now this is true hip hop and i wish that artist would go back to the roots of hip hop of what the art form is all about instead of talking about cars houses and jewlerly hip hop is dying right now and we need to let the artist know what is good and what is garbage instead of buying or downloading whats good on the radio and tv
Its not just the subject matter that artists is rrhyming about thats lacking but The production and choice of beats many people are still using that crunk style flavor. @Twizzledoc187 lol funnnnay. I hear what your saying and for the most part you have a point. You know hip hop takes on many forms and goes through its phases and there is some good hip-hop coming out of the south but unfortunately its never played on mainstream radio...in fact if were lucky , we may get a taste on Non commercial radio stations. I am sure this era in the south will also soon fade to black and another region will have hip-hop and hopefully it will return to its basic fundamentals
@Twizzledoc187 bruh... hiphop sound changed way before south rap was the main rap. it was bound to happen you lame ass nigga.. you think rap was gonna sound the same forever?
southern music didnt destroy hip hop they doing there thing doing there own thing! New york hiphop is not dead they just have to get with the program of time and realize that there is more music out there than just new york music.
@matrimonyslim hey u right , newyork fell off cause they don't make music 4 ladies. all that concious music don't hit in the clubs. the south new how to get the ladies to shake their ass , and the rest is history

Sweet Jesus I've been lookin for this song for YEARS!! I had the single on cassette when I got my license and first car, but played it soo much that it broke. Thanx!!!!!!
I know, it is still my favorite times, I was in 7th grade when this came out, late80s to mid 90s has better music like this, I hate nowadays like 106 n park and rap city is not what it used to be anymore.
Definitely, I was in Jr. High too with this stuff and a walkman in my ear in the back of the school bus. Cassettes! Those were like $10. CD's were like $15. haha Got back from school flipped on Rap city. They got underground and more popular artists 3 months before MTV would even hear about em. Dr. Dre was old news on Rap City by the time MTV picked up the chronic.
As matter of fact, I have the final season of In Livin Color episode with this song on it at the end when she was rappin in front of the group. I remember I brought a cassette of this at Musicland for 3 bucks, Cds were 12 bucks back then, now almost 20 bucks. I dont even like MTV as much I dont like BET of todays either. Now I have this on my MP3 player and ringtone.
Simple E has another hot track out called MY BLUE JEANS. Too bad her career didn't get past the first lp.... If had a record company and she was signed too me, I would have least pushed for at least three lp's regardless of money even if it didn't sell...

OMG I still have this cassette single and her performing live on BET by host Sherry Carter!!! this was from the Sugar Hill Soundtrack!!! One of my favorites of all time. Another Smooth meets lauryn Hill
you're right this was the shit back in the days that down and gritty hip hop without that teenie bop shit that is upon now. I wish there was a time machine I would erase all of this bullshit Hip Hop and Bullshit R&B that has taken most of our radio stations hostage. I feel sorry for this generation they really don't good music now of days. I miss the days of Big,Pac,Jay,Nas,and Pun. R&B Kells before the charges,Usher,Keith Sweat,BabyFace,Aaron Hall. It's just horrible man!
No you didn't. DAMN THIS WAS THE SHIT !!! I forgot about this song and whn I saw the title I was like . . . . "It can't be the same one" I'm loving you right now.
Is that a tatto on the left side of her face ?

As matter of fact, I have the final season of In Livin Color episode with this song on it at the end when she was rappin in front of the group. I remember I brought a cassette of this at Musicland for 3 bucks, Cds were 12 bucks back then, now almost 20 bucks. I dont even like MTV as much I dont like BET of todays either. Now I have this on my MP3 player and ringtone.

Simple E has another hot track out called MY BLUE JEANS. Too bad her career didn't get past the first lp.... If had a record company and she was signed too me, I would have least pushed for at least three lp's regardless of money even if it didn't sell...

you're right this was the shit back in the days that down and gritty hip hop without that teenie bop shit that is upon now. It's just horrible man!

this was "gritty hip-hop"? Really?
I like the song and all... but when I think of gritty hip-hop from that era, this isn't one of the songs that pop into my head.

YouTube is the greatest. I have not seen this video since '96, and I prolly never would have again otherwise.
