Alright, if we're talking about overpaid people, then lets get rid of musicians as well shall we? Lets shut down all record labels. And while we're at it we should abolish government. They're all overpaid too.
Football is a national nuisance and I'm glad Marcus is taking a stand against it. It's overpriced in terms of wages and "buying" players, as this money can be better used elsewhere.

@ukpet Agreed with the emotion of it all. Especially from Man United fans. If I kicked up a fuss every time Walsall lost most of the West Midlands would be on fire by now.

A thousand times yes. I fucking hate football. All you idiots just shut the fuck up about your favorite team playing some other equally irrelevant team and winning, losing, or drawing thanks to the efforts of your most or least favorite faceless, overpaid, ball-kicking neanderthals.
fucking football, it goes on forever then gets plastered over every for of media as if its actually relevant and not just boring pick a side and shout 'we're better than you' bollocks. and the hype, oh god the fucking hype, im looking at you sky sports.
Personally, i hate ppl who don't like/play sport's....horrible, passive-aggressive, lazy, self-obsessed layabouts...all of them virtually....cannot understand them.....failed human beings IMO....
That's quite a coincidence as I can't stand the universal labelling types who accuse "ppl" who dislike sports of being of a lower character of human being than themselves.
The fact that some of us don't like sports will not make us any less competent in life than somebody who enjoys sports, but they'll will be above those who are so narrow mindedly fanatical about sports that they can't see beyond their own interests.
If you don't understand them, fine.No need to be immature
It's not a question of them being of a "lower character"...that's obviously subjective...it's just that i personally can't understand them...in my experience they more often than not, seem to accurately conform to the stereotype that i layed out...i'll add pretentious to that list as well..
"The fact that some of us don't like sports will not make us any less competent in life than somebody who enjoys sports,"
Strongly disagree TBH....it's does athletically & arguably mentally too...
It's the closest to an art form sport can get... it's vibrant and passionate. It involves almost every athletic skill there is (speed, agility, strength, stamina, skill, teamwork, imagination, awareness etc etc), it bonds the entire world, you can have a pampered millionaire from England playing against an African teenager brought up in a shanty town in Africa tete a tete in the World Cup as equals.
The Beautiful Game. I love football, but have nothing against those who don't like it.
@ukulazy "bonds the entire world"? more like "bonds individual groups of people, then makes them defend their position so fervently and chauvinistically that they resort to apish violence and ridicule"
@Flophole Believe it or not, not every football fan is a thug. And yes, it bonds the world: in a week the World Cup will be played; the most popular international event in the world. Don't worry, certain art forms aren't appreciated by everyone.
@ukulazy I didn't say every football fan is a thug - most aren't. The truth is, though, that lots of football fans take it too far which results in riots. Just because the majority are well behaved doesn't mean that the problem doesn't still exist. Also, it doesn't bond the entire world. In a week, patriotism will increase, and with it, racism.
@Flophole I also hate the small minority of thugs in football... and it does bond the world! There may be rivalries, but they actually have very little to do with football. eg: England v Argentina & North Korea v South Korea & Germany v Holland. And personally, although I do feel slightly patriotic (once every 2 years), I also get much more interested in countries and cultures I know little about. Well, we've taken over the comment section, so agree to disagree? =)
you didn't watch the actual sport this afternoon then. Wales v Boks - doesn't really stand up to comparison with the Oscar wannabies who can't string a coherent sentence together but get a slight tap on the leg and roll around on the floor crying their millionaire eyes out ...
@Vault101Reject - you seem to be mentioning a sport ahd NFL in the same paragraph. Next you'll be saying the basketball world series actually features the world .......
@billse10 You're right, it really isn't worth comparing to football. Pick up ball; run forward straight into someone without using a single brain cell; stop game; homoerotic scrum; stop game - repeat ad nauseum. Like I said, not everyone can appreciate it as an art form. Don't beat yourself up. Just stick your hand up a Samoan crack hole and I'm sure you'll perk up.
@ukulazy - don't mention crack in the same paragraph as footballers. (Or their fathers, come to think of it)
You're right, it is an art. Merely falling over and feigning injury would be boring, it's got to be an artistic thing to justify all that rolling around cos someone looked at you the wrong way. Run, kick, run. Just stick your hand in the path of the ball and I'm sure you'll perk up. Unless you are Irish and the hand is Thierry Henry's.
@billse10 1) The fact you are resorting to comparing cheating in football (which is irritating) to the actual SPORT of rugby (painfully dull) means I win this argument.
2) Crack? I hate J.Terry and his father, so why do you think that's going to offend me? Are you actually saying that drug taking doesn't exist in rugby? Idiot...
3) What about that twat who used a blood sachet on his face? I believe that falls under 'feigning injury' =)
4) I'm not Thierry Henry! & I hate cheating in football!
Thanks for resorting to personal abuse rather than comment re; "idiot", and assuming I was trying to offend _you_ ?)
OK, I admit the crack reference was a cheap shot ..
Unlike the blood sachet incident, the rolling around on the floor cos someone came too close seems to happen in every single game. "Oh dear, someone ran in to me" = "so what?" in most sports, but apparently not in sports that lose any claim to be sports because of stupid £ millions involved.
@billse10 I did 'comment'. And what annoys me is the fact that my original comment, which you responded to, was neither controversial nor inflammatory. I said "I don't mind when other people don't like football". But you decided to troll anyway... I don't care if you like football, but you criticised the artistic quality of the sport, whilst comparing it to RUGBY. That is ridiculous. And what has money got to do with anything? A painting by van gogh costs millions, does that mean it isn't art?
I love football but even I get sick of how it's so inescapable so I can't imagine how it must feel to hate it when it's absolutely everywhere and there's no way of avoiding it.

I feel cheated by 1980's middle class left wing comedians who where against Thatcher, when if you look back at her legacy, she saved us from communists
@sexpistolarchive "people who actually earn money" ? "middle class communist wanker" ? take a look around u mate we're not in the 30's anymore the self made man and american dream and stuff like that are long gone
Regarding the name 'football' it certainly fits the game that was put into Room 101 better, considering American football consists primarily of holding and throwing the ball.
For the record I'm from the UK, and hate the sport he put in.
football is inherently uncreative. no matter how 'creative' a central midfielder may be, they are only ever trying to put the ball in the net more than the opponents. im a massive rugby fan but i wouldnt say attacking players are creative people generally
football is just grown men in shorts and long socks chasing a ball.. only children should wear long socks and shorts =/
as a sport, footballs fine, go have a kick around if it entertains you, but as a profession? where is the fun in watching people do something you could be doing?!
it is quite a testiment to capitalism though, children starve whilst the bigger players recieve ludicrous incomes...
Lol....i do like football but very true : )...they are basically chasing around a dead cow formed into a sphere....then trying to kick it into a large fishing net
God I fuckin hate football as well. It's not the sport itself, and it is a sport, it's the fact that you have to like it and you have to listen to other people talking about it otherwise you get called a bender. On any other subject it's perfectly acceptable to tell people that they're being completely fucking boring but for some reason football gets special treatment
It's true. I like football well enough as a game but fans put me right off. If someone whittered on about the Tour de France the way people go on about one not-particularly-important match you'd either walk away or punch them in the face. Football fans get a free pass to be boorish gits
Yeh totally. I always wonder what people could achieve if they exerted the emotion that they put into things like football, into something creative. You know, like how amazing the world would be if that many people gave a shit about something that was worth giving a shit about.
@droppedyursoap I'm guessing that you're from the UK, if so, I would happily trade places with you. Here in the USA, it's the exact same, but with truly crap sports like American Football and College basketball. But then, I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond.
Not a big fan of football, but each 2 their own - my biggest desire would be 2 rid the culture of the excess crud that we have to put up with BECAUSE of the obsession with football - and if ur not a fan, it still ends up on the telly all the time, so u don't have much choice even with 400 channels (also mostly poop - cheers Murdock - v=n1aZcsY-O8Q)
It's is nice to see another Englishmen, who isn't compelled 2 conform 2 stereotype of being a bloke - I'm a bloke, I just don't like footie!
RAGE! Marcus, you had the opportunity of a lifetime to rape the name of soccer, and you ended up playing it! What the hell!? You should have bursted that ball, and sent it into Room 101, yourself.
it's pretty much only called soccer by americans who dont want to admit that there's another sport which is more appropriately named football. almost noone calls it soccer outside america
Indeed. Outside of he USA, only those determined to be correct refer to it as soccer. It doesn't really matter, though. Anything to do with soccer is quite inconsequential.
whether or not you like football, you have to admit that people take it far too fucking seriously. the rivalries are ridiculous, and people talk about their teams achievments as if its their own
i totally agree with marcus brigstocke everything he said is everything i think about football, its everywhere it really is in-escapable, i dont so much hate football just people who really really like it.
It annoys me that people that don't appreciate exercise often pick on football because it's the sport they're most exposed to but that because IT'S THE BEST SPORT and that's the nations opinion (democratically speaking i.e. if we had a vote football WOULD WIN)
Having said that Brigstocke IS law so i now also hate football which is annoying cz i had tickets for next weekend.
yes. towards the goal, then they shoot, if they score, then good for them. If you don't like football then fair enough, but don't go saying you don't understand it. you do. Its the basics of any other ball sport, and then the extra bits. And it isnt just grown men. When i was younger, i spent ages playing with my mates, and were we trying to achieve anything? no. we were just enjoying ourselves.
i don't understand why, well at my school at least you get called gay for not watching when really all it is, is men in shorts chasing after eachother
bunch of pussies runnin round and who spend more time clutchin their fuckin legs arms etc than johhny wilkinson... whenever i hear the words "ooh football is a tougher sport than rugby" i just reply with "only if youre playin with zidane..."
Then you must also admit that everybody dislikes different things, and this show is all about that. Perhaps you should try thinking about your comments before jumping in with the RETARD comments.
Dude, i agree. Not about Marucs being a retard, but that people who say you are an idiot because you like football is pathetic. People like different things and my opinion is; You don't like football, your problem so stop having-a-go at people who do
Marcus I agree with absolutely EVERYTHING you say!

Regarding the name 'football' it certainly fits the game that was put into Room 101 better, considering American football consists primarily of holding and throwing the ball.
For the record I'm from the UK, and hate the sport he put in.

football is inherently uncreative. no matter how 'creative' a central midfielder may be, they are only ever trying to put the ball in the net more than the opponents. im a massive rugby fan but i wouldnt say attacking players are creative people generally
somerandomer 2 years ago 3
football is just grown men in shorts and long socks chasing a ball.. only children should wear long socks and shorts =/
as a sport, footballs fine, go have a kick around if it entertains you, but as a profession? where is the fun in watching people do something you could be doing?!
it is quite a testiment to capitalism though, children starve whilst the bigger players recieve ludicrous incomes...
KonVay1 2 years ago 14
Lol....i do like football but very true : )...they are basically chasing around a dead cow formed into a sphere....then trying to kick it into a large fishing net

God I fuckin hate football as well. It's not the sport itself, and it is a sport, it's the fact that you have to like it and you have to listen to other people talking about it otherwise you get called a bender. On any other subject it's perfectly acceptable to tell people that they're being completely fucking boring but for some reason football gets special treatment
droppedyursoap 2 years ago 73
It's true. I like football well enough as a game but fans put me right off. If someone whittered on about the Tour de France the way people go on about one not-particularly-important match you'd either walk away or punch them in the face. Football fans get a free pass to be boorish gits
BentonRox 2 years ago 6

It's a type of football. A particular type of football called, soccer.
TheBestPrevail 2 years ago
it's pretty much only called soccer by americans who dont want to admit that there's another sport which is more appropriately named football. almost noone calls it soccer outside america
somerandomer 2 years ago
Indeed. Outside of he USA, only those determined to be correct refer to it as soccer. It doesn't really matter, though. Anything to do with soccer is quite inconsequential.
TheBestPrevail 2 years ago
what you refer to as soccer and i refer to as football is a boring as hell sport. i hope we can agree on that.
somerandomer 2 years ago
Yes. We can certainly agree on that.
TheBestPrevail 2 years ago
whether or not you like football, you have to admit that people take it far too fucking seriously. the rivalries are ridiculous, and people talk about their teams achievments as if its their own
somerandomer 3 years ago 18
i totally agree with marcus brigstocke everything he said is everything i think about football, its everywhere it really is in-escapable, i dont so much hate football just people who really really like it.
rickybobbysenior 3 years ago 9
It annoys me that people that don't appreciate exercise often pick on football because it's the sport they're most exposed to but that because IT'S THE BEST SPORT and that's the nations opinion (democratically speaking i.e. if we had a vote football WOULD WIN)
Having said that Brigstocke IS law so i now also hate football which is annoying cz i had tickets for next weekend.

I just don't understand football. - Grown men running after a ball and when they finally catch it; They kick it away!
Junsku 3 years ago 11
yes. towards the goal, then they shoot, if they score, then good for them.

I don't hate football, more the culture of being a complete drunken fool that goes with being a football hooligan. The game itself is fine.
Same with golf. Good sport, just full arrogant people who forbid trainers in certain parts of their club house. Heaven Forbid!

i fuckin hate footbollocks too...
bunch of pussies runnin round and who spend more time clutchin their fuckin legs arms etc than johhny wilkinson... whenever i hear the words "ooh football is a tougher sport than rugby" i just reply with "only if youre playin with zidane..."
