  • -" can we see something in color? "

-" heheh, sir, we do animation, both we're not magicians"...........XD

  • -"ok let's look at the screen now"

    - "where is it?"

    - "I think its inside this plastic box"

  • Oh my God! I used to use DAS all the time as a kid! This video reminds me how much I loved it (and how well designed it was). Thanks for posting this video!

  • Amiga was always ahead of its time. A shame Commodore couldn't have marketed it better. Ah well, ancient history now.

  • this was actually a very nice/fun program when It came out.

  • O M G

  • "can we see something in color?" - nobody would ask that kind of question nowadays :P

  • I have the full original software! It's soo vintageee!

  • i love this!

sooo rad but at the same time programs like this is what took away from the purity of what the greats James Stuart Blackton/Winsor McCay/ect were working for. Seems so many animations now days are flat, lack real life textures, layers and personality.

I am all for progress and hope for a revival to the old ways

this coming from someone that enjoys techno music...

  • 2:28 he missed a spot for color

  • reminds me of paint

  • That was very wonderful. And the animation looks so fluent for a computer software that was made in the early 90's, and they did a great job on developing it, too. This is why I still love Disney Animation today! :)

  • LOL I remember that program, when I was a kid, I made simple animation of walking man, since then I forgot about animation until recently.

Nowadays vector animation and 3d is more popular than hand-drawing pixel.

  • if you love animation and drawing give me a thumbs up!

  • @OFFtheHIZZLE555 well, it's not your animation so why you should get thumbs?

  • @izvarzone You mean the animations that i made?

  • @OFFtheHIZZLE555 sorry man, my bad.

  • @izvarzone its ok man we cool

  • nice information. thanks for upload this video

  • its hard to believe that 3 years later they started work on toy story.

  • @WarriorChild2020 I dont fucking care

  • This program is Photoshop's father...

  • The good old days of the Amiga, but why did Commodore have to go bankrupt?

  • Wow. Its still better than MS Paint. lol

  • I love (and miss) the giant program icon style...

  • I know this is very Immature, but hit 5, 7, 8 and you hear "Was able to, give them greater control, with the package"

  • lol, it takes longer time to colour with good programs now than this. Unless you're using paint of course.

It doesn't matter how the animation are created or when. What's imporant is that the animator actually can animate

  • this is a relic!

  • "-hahaha"

    "-always from disney"

that ass fully achieved the ass' medal

  • This is amazing. I wish Disney would remake this program. I like Toon Boom Studio fine enough, but considering that this is from 20 years ago, I think Disney could make a program now that would blow everything else out of the water.

  • Anyone know how he's going from cell to cell so damn fast?

  • @daniyellowjello I think he is pressing a key on the keyboard, probably 2 and not on the numpad either.

  • @daniyellowjello Keyboard shortcuts & can even see his finger on a key roughly around the enter key pressing for the next frame.

  • So great and easy to use...

  • Now see, cool as this is, to any true artist, this is cheating. This to me at least isn't a way to get something done quickly as much as it is a way to pump out more work faster.

  • Pixar ruined Walt Disney movies!

  • @jordan1650 Pixar definitely did not ruin them at all! Pixar opened up a whole new world to the power of computer animation, which has obviously changed the way almost every movie is made today. Sure, some people view this as a bad move, but it's only because we are still experimenting and perfecting this technology and thus more movies are made with it. I can promise you, though, that traditional animation will become "retro" and more movies will be made like that very soon.

  • @jordan1650 Are you sure?

  • "fully supports color" - not something you would hear today :P

  • @knalleDK well, in twenty years, trailers wont be like "IN CINEMAS EVERYWHERE IN 3D"

  • I remember when I was in grade school, if I was up late enough, the Disney channel would show programs and movie that Walt Disney himself created!

  • @LazyFilmMaker Man I'm an 84 baby and I can remember that too! Wow, I know we aren't old or anything, but, we are getting up there when you think about when we actually were kids.

  • @DannyBoy443 I'm actually 20, LOL. When I was younger Disney use to show what made the Disney company Disney. Too bad they don't even have a channel dedicated to that, I know a lot of people that would watch it.

  • @LazyFilmMaker When you were younger?!! WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?! You were born in the 90s lol. You're like 5. Btw you did a hell of a job making me feel older even though it's 6 years. When it's past 10 then Dannyboy feels like a gray haired, past prime douche. Live child LIVE!!

  • @DannyBoy443 I just really miss when Disney would show mini segments on film and animation (two interest of mine) I'm just sad that kids these days don't have the same benefits like that. I'm trying to live life to the fullest, dont worry. LOL!

  • @LazyFilmMaker When I have memories of what a real animation looked like, I cry. It was epic talent from those guys in that studio. The program is cool though. I guess from a business standpoint, it saves millions of dollars in labor and supplies. Which is always good.

  • @LazyFilmMaker And ps, YOU STILL ARE A KID! I'm a kid technically. Another pps, you were born when this video was made lmao. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Well, actually don't because drugs are bad for you.

  • Wow! What an old computer!

  • what OS are they using?

  • 3:25 the guy in the back says "just like work" and they all ignore him. lol

  • awesome! I wonder what the new technology is up to lately!

  • Holy christ! i remember using this when I was in Grade school. I loved this program more than anything else, holy shit. And now I am working for Disney!!!

  • shit version of Pivot

  • Those executives are douches...

  • Is there any way of getting this program and making it work on windows?

  • wow nostalgic !

  • I want this software

  • 1:13 the man on the right approves.

  • Started teaching classical animation on Amiga (Deluxe Paint by Electronic Arts) at this time. Anyone pining for the Disney software or Deluxe Paint should really try out TV Paint, a software from France that started up on Amiga in the early 90's. They're still in business and their latest version is amazing for paperless classical animation, especially if you have a Cintiq to draw on.

  • So much better than....ugh....anime studio.

  • I want amiga. Screw flash and photoshop.

  • Before flash was created, Amiga was born to be the animation creator.

Thank you Amiga for having so many great things.

  • My first real computer was the Amiga 500 and it SMOKED anything IBM or Mac had at the time. I used Deluxe Paint III to do some pretty sweet animations... I never did get 'Video Toaster' like I wanted though...

  • "So you have to do this manually" -somebody is being an ass.

  • thats how magic is done XD

  • @sygo7g yeah thts the sorta stuff tht actually drives u to be better at it :) i speacuially love don bluth n all leavin disney cause they thought they lost there feel for it and were just doing it for the sake of their jobs and went on to do there own movies tht still had the enthusiasim for there work

  • @sygo7g those are amazing ,, its funny how all really old animationslook epic compared to nowadays ones

  • @sygo7g cool i look him up .. i just finished my cw project like a couple weeks ago doing it on flash i sweari can never look at another virtual colour palette again in my life over 40,000 frames :(

  • lol o lol photoshop v0..001 beta

  • I totally used to have this app for DOS!!!! Wow!

  • my iPhone is way more powerful then this Amiga.

  • @ericmu11er So is mine, but the Amiga was still a lot more fun.

  • my iPhone is way more powerful then this Amiga.

  • Quit? Are you certain?

  • supports color!! woah!!!

  • i wish i see Amiga again in computer and video games world!

    :(

  • If Donald used Amiga wouldn't have wait so longer :-)

  • Oh wait, it was lol try blender. Im not trying to be ugly about it though X3

  • The funny thing is that the video looks as though it was made in 1990

  • CLICK CLICK CLICKETY CLICK CLICKETY CLICKETY CLICK CLICK!!!

  • The water drop animation took less time to create than the time required to boot Vista on a PC!

  • Disney really needs to remake this program; It would really aid me in animation. (:

  • lol he missed one feather.

these old cartoons were so much better than the corny sitcoms and stubid bands :/

i wish Walt Disney was still here...

  • amazing ... ; O

    What is disney now ?

Nothing ... only demi lovato and selena gomez and jonas brothers and miley cyrus and al people ....

    We have ruined disney ...

  • And that was the latest and finest technology... LOL - I know, in 15 or 20 years I'll be laughing at my current iMac and saying 'that was the latest technology at that time...'

  • oh the 90s

  • what are the best animation programs between endorphin, euphoria, havok, and ragdollvsarrow

  • There is nothing like the old software .

  • I'm using the Amiga 1200 and Disney's The Animation Studio (this program) but I have no idea how to make backgrounds etc.

  • OMG A MAC...Iused to have 3 of those XD

  • Oh my god, the hair!?

  • 89 megabites of free space...you will never fill that up lol.

  • that look a bit 2 advanced for 4 me...

  • Manually adding in colour frame-byframe will be the DEATH OF ME i cnt bare goin through 1000's of frames addin in colours and shadows manually

  • These computers did things that the present day computers still struggle to do.

I still have two Amiga 2000s ..... and they still work ... I love them.

I just love Deluxe Paint and the Disney Animation Studio... they were away ahead of their time.

  • what do they use now?

  • @killian694 For 2D they use a specialized version of ToonBoom. Before, they used a custom animation system built by Pixar called CAPS, that did basically what ToonBoom does now.

  • Looks a little bit like deluxe paint.. seems to be based on it?

  • do they still use this software and can i buy it?

  • the amiga was great !!!

  • What I like is "...and this was created in this package?", answer, "It was Painted and...". In other words: No. It was created outside of the computer software and digitized. So you can assume the animator took one look at the software and decided it was better off working with a paper and pencil than hampering himself with the computer.

  • I think the software was capable to doing that animation from scratch, but the animators were probably too lazy to learn a program from scratch so just did a quick animation on paper and gave it to the experts to scan and process.

  • umm does disney hve job offers for animation plzzz reply im only 13 but i wanna become an animator when i grow up

  • Im sure they have openings but you're gonna have to work hard for it. If you wanna become an animator, start now! Read and research as much as you can on animation and always remember that the best teacher is yourself! If you want it, go get it and dont let anyone get in your way! Good luck!

  • @TheAienma me 2 animating is my dream

  • They do have openings for very experienced animators. To get into animation you can't wait until you grow up, you have to become an animator now. Get a little sheif of paper and go to it.

  • its important for people to know, this was happening on the amiga before Photoshop was even created. so infact photoshop was a copy off of apps created long before it.

the amiga was far ahead of other pc's, and technically MAC's werent even around at the time. so what killed the amiga. coporate idiots and there direction to go more 'business computer' idiots.

  • @xevious2501 Not quite. Mac's were first introduced in 1984 with the Amiga a year later. Amiga and Macs were direct competitors especially in multimedia for a long time.

But you're right. Amiga was the first to bring graphic arts and animation to the mass consumers at a affordable price.

  • @xevious2501 How old are you?? I used amigas and I used photoshop and illustrator close to their inception. They are completely different programs for different purposes.

  • @dirtybrownsockful to the contrary, Deluxe paint and photoshop were very simular

. people tend to think of them being different but in fact all paint apps at the time were patterned after products by Quantel (paintbox). dont take my word for it. dig up some imagery of dpaint and photoshop. take a look at the tools.

Photoshops biggest differnce wasnt from its toolset but from its later incorporation of Filters. Dpaint evolved into an animation app.

  • how old are you?

  • @xevious2501 Wasn't Macintosh around starting in 1986?

  • I wish flash was this easy to use.

  • @Flashlight1996

it is super easy. i nevber knew either. but after 1 hour alone with it, i learnt the basics. its quite easy actually. use youtube to help you out

  • Amiga was just SO far ahead of it's time

  • @CoffeeTroll I couldn't agree more, Amiga was even a hyper threading computer, a lot of modern computer technology we now use was built on the old Commodore technology.

  • @CoffeeTroll I couldn't agree more. It's still SOOO amazing even in 2010.

  • yep and windows are still not there yet

  • @CoffeeTroll And your comment wasn't and yet managed to snag a solid 66 greenies. What a shame.

  • if i was to get a similar program like this today what would i be looking for?

  • I tried to use it in the 90'. It looks neat, but it is not practical and the result is not satisfying doing it this way. If you animate "old school" you better stick to pencil and paper for the raw stuff and then scan it for CGI post production. Even the (good) examples you see in the vid are scanned and not really made with the Animation Studio.

  • amazing for 1990

  • "You haven't automated coloring YET?!"

    Ahahahah! Best line EVER!

  • This software has been distributed in France by Titus Interactive in french, for the amount of 999 francs at the time (something like 150 euros !!).

    I own it :D

  • @dlfrsilver

    Titus?

you mean the group with the cartoon fox for a mascot?

  • i mean the french videogame publisher !!!

    Titus Interactive :) !

  • Amiga FTW =)

  • deluxe paint or workbench or disney animation studio?

  • so what is this program?

  • what is this program? is this workbench? can i have one on windows?

  • Sure, there are also for Windows, and many professionals use ToonBoom, but there are different software, I advise you to start to use Pencil-0.4.4b is totally free.

  • all right but why this program isn't in internet, is there any corporation who buyed rights for this?

  • The program has never been published online. Rights are the Disney and not been followed after the release for the Amiga. The full name is 'The Disney Animation Studio'. On eBay there is one that sells everything at $ 20, complete with manuals. The only possible way is to use an emulator and find the old rom on the net. I had a copy pirate and see this video made me go back.

  • I found the old rom, you have a look here. h t t p : / / ias. parconet . com / ias / apps.cgi

    remove the space

  • you have bear from me dude :)

  • I bought this software back in the 1990's and just took it out the other day to play with it on my pentium 2 desktop and it works fine...easy to create animations fast...I'm looking to get tablet cause using the mouse is difficult

  • i perfered deluxe paint personality it had light table and anim brushes too although this was prob a great learning program to learn each part separately , drawing ,animating , coloring but required patients also a lightpen as mouse bricks was a nightmare and would skip a few pixels on the best parts annoying heh but the movie player was great could handel tons of frames yet packed it small was very clever

  • dont know why it was called a lightpen cos mine was heavy with a telephone wire attached to it and the tip was a little track ball although much better then the mouse heh

  • @xslowcorex

I had a light pen to, Trojan I believe. It was cool to use, though for details the mnouse was generally better.

  • i have that kind of software its amazing im only 14 and i can make little simple vid's idk how to upload them to youtube or enything els..?

  • Amiga is the BEST,

and Donald is total lamer... =D

  • where do i download it?

  • Great bit of tech history and, in the context of the level of technology, a very inspiring piece of software.

  • como lo downloads

  • That software is

  • If you're starting in digital animation, pencil-animation(dot)org is probably the way to go right now when starting out. (and it will easily fit your budget) ;)

But way back in the day, before PC's had any decent graphics - Amiga was definitely the way to go.

It's a shame Commodore and Atari Computer screwed themselves up with all the infighting, because they actually had some decent hardware. Which makes you wonder where they may have taken things if the corporate suicides didn't happen.

  • I thought that they just drew the pictures and scanned them onto the computer.

  • Amiga was the best! Too bad Microshit screwed everything up. Thank god for Apple. But to Bill Gates credit he has tried to his best. He shoulda bought commodore and then we would have flying cars for sure.

  • they used the same program for Earthworm Jim

  • what is the damn program!

i so much want to animate with this program

some one know where to find it

    ??????

  • I want it too, it's Disney Animation Studio.

  • I once found it online, but it is only for the Amiga. I heard of a DOS version of it, but I'm not sure where to find it. BTW, it's 'Disney Animation Studio', and it's actually kinda low resolution by today's standards. Still, you can make some good stuff if you really tried.

  • Flash?

you thing i don't have flash

i use it and i know it is not perfect for good animations

  • Surely you jest. Flash is an amazing animation program for amateurs. Even regular shows are made in Flash, like Ying Yang Yo, Timmy two shoes, and the like.

I don't know where you got the info from, but thats untrue. Also if you wanna get really pro i suggest getting Maya, however you don't have the money nor the time to get this program.

  • caillou is made from flash... but it's a very low budget way to animate. the original first sets of episodes were all hand drawn and looked of much higher quality. so sad... I believe even Dora the Explorer is moving to flash pretty soon according to the NickToons Panel .

  • i cried when I saw The flash animated Caillou for the first time haha. Poor dora

  • Yeah, but they don't make Flash for the Amiga, now do they.

No, they don't, and therefore it sucks.

Jeez, you'd think by now everyone'd figure out that Amiga was and still is the greatest home computer ever!

  • Lol my sentence looks like i'm some sort of noob bitching about the fact that i don't like this Amiga program.

It was actually a responds to some guy who wanted this program to animate because he didnt know there were more programs.

  • what about the Sharp X68000 :P

  • Amiga was the best user friendly computer on the world, hope new AmigaOS 4 can bring a bit light from that times :)

  • Wow! Just wow! this is waaay before Flash or any other popular animator!!! Oh how I miss Amiga days :(

  • Hmm... my Amiga 2000, 3000, and 4000... the 2000 has a video toaster... I should do something with those. :)

  • PLEASE MESSAGE ME if you find this program, thanks!

  • I was really impressed by Amiga's capabilties and I'm fortunate enough to have two models of this fantastic machine (500 and 1200); been using them mostly for games but now I'll definitely try making some animations

  • I am going to look for this program

  • hey if you find it, could you notify me please? I'm searching for it as well

  • any luck?

  • ya watch my unboxing video

  • ALL HAIL KING AMIGA!!!!

  • 3D animation ruined Disney :(

  • Yeah no kidding man ... just like HD ruined TV ... and like Microwaves ruined the convection oven ... and like CDs ruined turntables ... lol ..

  • lol

  • toy story was a great movie and it was 3d but cars 2006 lol he won 3 piston cups. he did what to his cup?

  • @MBGamingLegends the old mickey mouse was the best but some of their movies arnt bad but their shows in 3d like the new mickey mouse suck
