if sunsoft decides to make a sequel for B.M. Over Drive. it should be like fully rendered 3d like contra s.s. and also there should be 2 types of gameplay. for example. when your riding sophia the game plays a lot like the classic side scroller but when you enter a dungeon it changes into a 3rd person shoulder view aim shooter. and they should also add puzzles to it more difficult . and finally different kinds death animation ike fred swallowing jason whole and spitting his helmet out .

loved nes bm... the psx blaster master was strange. The genesis version, I haven't gotten into far enough but it looks pretty badass (bm2 for gen). THIS... makes me want to buy a wii just to play this. I hope they keep how great the music was cuz... yeah that chiptune shit back then very well might be better than their 'remake', at least I feel that way about the song in this vid.

Looks more like pseudo-PSX-N64ish visuals to me, because if it was SNES looks, it would be a bit more pixelated. Though, it does have the SNES feel to it.

This is a great game and pretty much the Blaster Master that most fans have been waiting for for a long time.
Having said that though, I do wish to address some issues that I had with it. For one thing, there is a lack of variety in the environments--pretty much every single area is just a cave with a different color to distinguish itself from others. Only exceptions to this are the lava and ice areas.
While this doesn't really hurt the game overall, the repetition in the environments can wear on some players, especially considering how the original game had better variety in environments... so keep that in mind next time, Sunsoft.
Secondly, the controls need some fixing. Like, for example, the swimming controls in this game are bad. S.O.P.H.I.A. and Alex won't enter a swimming motion until they've reached the height of their jump underwater.
This is bad in the sense that I've actually gotten killed a few times trying to swim away from some enemies... all just because that Alex wouldn't start swimming properly.
Also, while this might just be a nitpick, I would prefer if the 1 button was used for canceling on menu screens and the 2 button was used for selecting... seeing how that's been a common trait in games when the jump button is used as select and the shoot button is used as cancel.
Even so, these problems don't hurt the overall experience. The bosses are challenging and fun, the weapons have gotten a great upgrade, Alex can attack in 8 directons, S.O.P.H.I.A. gets some awesome abilities... and this game has the difficulty that many NES Blaster Master fans want.
So yes, by all means, buy this game and support Sunsoft's return to the gaming front!
@Rivalseeker I had that same issue.. it got me killed several times since his gun is so weak outside of Sophia and you practically get killed in one hit from enemies. While not the a steller revisit its not a bad game.
I always liked the original but found it too hard to play but fun, then blaster master 2 was...ok, I dont want to even mention the one for the playstaion, god that was horrible, but this looks very very promising DO WANT!!

So far there's Contra Rebirth (Pretty Cool), Castlevania Rebirth (good), Gradius Rebirth (good), Adventure Island: The beginning (ok, but could have been alot better), Final Fantasy 4: The After Years (Awesome if you leave out the middle chapters (you have to buy multiple parts, I reccomend only first and last, though you'll be missing out on some extra characters). PS a little hard), with more awesome oldschool games on the way!!
I completely agree with you. I was so excited for this game, but it's not a remake. It's a "new" game with similar gameplay. The entire game is very bland and similar. All this game made me want to do was go play the original.

I just completed it under an hour ago and I can definitely say it is well worth the $10, folks. One of the best titles on WiiWare to date, bar none. Sunsoft has come back in a big way here.
Look on the map for the Gate (caves) that are green and say "Gate (Save)". Those caves have a blue area inside them that let you save if you stand on it.

There was a platoon game by sunsoft , hard as hell but very innovative for the time, each level diferent from the other, i think 5 or 6 levels reallyu nice , play control ver difucult
Just in case people are wondering, the music here is NOT what you hear in the actual game. The music in the game is VERY similar to the original, with some variation here and there.
So do you find it better than the original? Personally, i dig the original...i dont find it to be a classic or anything, but i'll never forget that intro with fred the frog and that boy. that intro has been totaly engraved in my head ever since i played it back in the Nes days ;p
Blaster Master is a love to hate type game...the second half of the boss are insanely tough...I still cant be the final boss in his final form til this day damnit ;p I will be getting this if it gets solid reviews ;)

I was planning on downloading the NES Blaster Master for the Virtual Console but I may just get this instead. Wii has become my go-to console for old school games the last couple years
The Wii is dominating 2010 for me. Tatsunoko, No More Heroes 2, Contra and Castlevania Rebirth, Muramasa, Mad World, New Super Mario Bros., and now this. This is becoming -the- system for old schoolers.
It's not a direct sequel, as it has it's own storyline. I think that's why they called it a "re-imagining" Think of it like what would Blaster Master have been like had they released it today, and not back in NES days.
Wow, very nice looking, great music, even if it's just Wiiware, it seems like a great remake - much better than Blaster Master 2 for Genesis or Blasting Again on PlayStation.
Looks very awesome. Glad to see Sunsoft back, and very glad to see them surprise us with this. Hope this rocks sales and we can get some other Sunsoft gems remade for Wiiware.

I agree. It looks like it blows. :( I played the hell out of the first one as a kid (I could beat it without rapid fire joysticks, and without using the pause trick too on the bosses that it worked on), so there's a special place in my heart for the music, graphics, level design, and the excellently timed sprite animation. This one looks like they totally missed the aura and control that made the first one so good. Even the genesis version that came out in 92 or whatever was lame. :(
The music definitally pales compared to the original track, which is one of the best 8-bit tunes ever, but I'm glad they stuck with sprites and didn't try to slap on a crappy polygon paintjob. Sucks that its only on the wii though...

The remix starts out ok, but then turns a bit too Newgrounds-ish... I'm no music expert, but perhaps playing a bit more with percussion (and another lead instrument) would've made it better. Still, glad they'll reuse the classic themes.
I honestly don't think the Area 1 theme remix for this game sounds too bad in all honesty... though I will admit that I'm not a fan of the new kind of riff in the song that plays at 0:26 - 0:28 and at other points in the song.
Remix is actually pretty decent IMHO... but I digress; I hope this game turns out to be awesome!
I hope they kept the super exciting "pet frog and the radioactive box" storyline, because that totally motivated me to blast the entire underworld with a small tank
YAHooooo! Looks bad ass. Seems like they've gone back to the roots of the 2d games recently and they have been really sharp. Blaster Master 2 for the genesis was a little disappointing graphics wise but this looks just like the original with some beefed up graphics XD

I think it's meant to sound like it's from the 80s, and indeed it does. I can't really fault them for that. Everybody else goes with either a full orchestra or thrash metal when they revive an old franchise, so it's interesting to hear something different.
Blaster Master is on the vc and there will be a contest occuring soon that involves playing and beating the vc version recording it and sending it to sunsoft.
Go to the offical sunsoft site (use the google people) read the details. They will also be putting more Sunsoft and Telenet games on the wii vc. As well as developing wiiware titles and dsiware titles.

So do you find it better than the original? Personally, i dig the original...i dont find it to be a classic or anything, but i'll never forget that intro with fred the frog and that boy. that intro has been totaly engraved in my head ever since i played it back in the Nes days ;p
Blaster Master is a love to hate type game...the second half of the boss are insanely tough...I still cant be the final boss in his final form til this day damnit ;p I will be getting this if it gets solid reviews ;)

The Wii is dominating 2010 for me. Tatsunoko, No More Heroes 2, Contra and Castlevania Rebirth, Muramasa, Mad World, New Super Mario Bros., and now this. This is becoming -the- system for old schoolers.

No... it's made by Sunsoft. But Nintendo had Sunsoft come on board for VC and WiiWare releases way before this game was released.

It's not a direct sequel, as it has it's own storyline. I think that's why they called it a "re-imagining" Think of it like what would Blaster Master have been like had they released it today, and not back in NES days.

I agree. It looks like it blows. :( I played the hell out of the first one as a kid (I could beat it without rapid fire joysticks, and without using the pause trick too on the bosses that it worked on), so there's a special place in my heart for the music, graphics, level design, and the excellently timed sprite animation. This one looks like they totally missed the aura and control that made the first one so good. Even the genesis version that came out in 92 or whatever was lame. :(

The music definitally pales compared to the original track, which is one of the best 8-bit tunes ever, but I'm glad they stuck with sprites and didn't try to slap on a crappy polygon paintjob. Sucks that its only on the wii though...

The remix starts out ok, but then turns a bit too Newgrounds-ish... I'm no music expert, but perhaps playing a bit more with percussion (and another lead instrument) would've made it better. Still, glad they'll reuse the classic themes.

I honestly don't think the Area 1 theme remix for this game sounds too bad in all honesty... though I will admit that I'm not a fan of the new kind of riff in the song that plays at 0:26 - 0:28 and at other points in the song.
Remix is actually pretty decent IMHO... but I digress; I hope this game turns out to be awesome!

YAHooooo! Looks bad ass. Seems like they've gone back to the roots of the 2d games recently and they have been really sharp. Blaster Master 2 for the genesis was a little disappointing graphics wise but this looks just like the original with some beefed up graphics XD

I think it's meant to sound like it's from the 80s, and indeed it does. I can't really fault them for that. Everybody else goes with either a full orchestra or thrash metal when they revive an old franchise, so it's interesting to hear something different.

Blaster Master is on the vc and there will be a contest occuring soon that involves playing and beating the vc version recording it and sending it to sunsoft.
Go to the offical sunsoft site (use the google people) read the details. They will also be putting more Sunsoft and Telenet games on the wii vc. As well as developing wiiware titles and dsiware titles.
