  • luckyflames1897 Yes, I get your point regarding whether I would prefer 1 or 6 appliances and obviously I would prefer 6 myself. I have still seen fires where two or three appliances turn up to a rubbish bin alight. I could have put this bin fire out with a garden hose on my own and still stop for a tea break half way through. My friends do say that as a firefighter, you only get a couple of decent fires each year if that

  • @luckyflames1897 Not naive at all. I have met and know some very fat and unfit firefighters. Some are very old and could not lift a bag of potatoes. They also tell me that when you get a "big job" as you mention, so many firefighters turn up at it that there is often nothing to do and they just hang around if needed. I did see a fire a couple of years ago in a small house. Basically there was smoke billowing out of one of the upstairs windows. 6 fire engines pulled up. 28 firemen. matress

  • @brendanbutterworth

Your are very naive, how was the caller supposed to know what was alight?, Also a matress alight can destroy a house in a very short amount of time. I think you may be exagerating with 6 machines, if further calls are made by a member of public it instantly gets made up to 4. And maybe an arial appliance riding with 2. Yes maybe 22 Firefighters. Let's imagine it was your house and maybe you have children and they are inside. What would you prefer. 1 machine or 6?

  • Pathetic stuff really. I am glad I watched this video and thank you for posting it. I was always under the impression that firefighter training was tough and demanding. I thought it was a bit of a challenge to get in. From watching this I can see it very easy.

  • @brendanbutterworth you are full of shit mate, trust me it's not easy. Maybe when you attend incidents such as 7/7, ladbroke grove, etc etc. You will see it's not quite EASY as you say. This is Just a simple stage to pass, as there are 6 other sections to just get to the 4 month training part. Then 4 months training.

    naive people i detest

  • I live in south Wales so there bleep is 20 metres I agree it isn't compulsory to some fire services but its part of my tests tomorrow and the bleep does measure your fitness ready for medical anyways I don't want to get in a bitching match, my kids do enough of that!

  • @scatterdmist My gran carries shopping up a steep hill to get home. About 250m long. Walks it every day.

  • @scatterdmist I think you are correct scatterdmist. I think the problem is (according to friends in the fire service), that they get very few serious call outs anymore. Most places nowadays are protected by very good alarm systems. I once asked a firefighter what his average year was like. He said, most of his time was made up by meetings. Even said that one of his senior officers said, I know these meetings are of no use but we have to justify our hours. Honest bloke!

  • @scatteredmist Yes, it still sounds awfully easy. I have a friend who got in. His nickname where we live is thicko. Very fat and terribly unfit. I can't believe he got in and passed. That is why I checked out this video in the first place to see what the selection and training process was like. He said he had no problem passing and it was all very straightforward and not difficult or dangerous. He has now been posted to a station and says he hardly ever gets called out. Plays snooker

  • @brendanbutterworth @scatteredmist The bleep test is 25 meters, and is NOT part of the NFST, it is an optional extra test applied by very few FRS, such as Northern Ireland. I've done these tests and they are an absolute doddle. The equipment carry is the hardest, and even then isnt difficult. they have most definately lowered the standards to please the PC brigades and let in more women etc.

  • one thing missing from the video is the 20 metre bleep test , doubt that your gran can run that far ....

  • one thing missing is the 20 metre bleep test , doubt your gran can run that far ....lmao

  • if its so easy then why dont you apply...instead of your gran? by the way you've got to be accepted first, pass the written tests, complete the second part of the application, pass the fitness and have a medical way b4 the interview....doe's it sound easy now hotshot!

  • all looks ever so easy to me. you can't fall off ladder because of rope around you. my gran could do these tests. What is age limit? I may get her to join. Crawling round that cage is like what i see children doing down the park

  • What weight is the equipment carry?

  • got my written tests this September..hopefully get to this stage, thanks for the video

  • @scatteredmist Good luck mate

  • I did these test on Thursday. The equitment carry is far harder than it looks. And the enclosed space test is also far more 'enclosed' than it appears.

  • I would agree, after doing it in summer in 80f , it was really hard going

  • Yes a very good video but much harder for real than what it looks like in this video!

  • Excellent video !!!
