American football is not about a handful of guys running into each other to cause pain or injure the other, rather it is more along the lines of a game of chess. Their are over thousands of different plays the players must know and the other team must strategically choose the correct defensive play to defend the one that's coming from the other team. Your cheering on a sport that has resulted in hundreds of players deaths or life changing injuries.

@ProjectVRD i don't know about you, but if death and injury symbolizes a "true mans sport," than man has spent the last few hundred years to waist. And just so you know, I have never played an official game of football and I've spent the majority of my childhood playing rugby and collegiate wrestling. I still respect football for what it is and give athletes in every other sport the respect they deserve. An athlete works his/her ass off to become the best, and that represents a true man/woman.

@ProjectVRD im being serious when i ask, are there lots of concussions in rugby? im sure it happens, but is it very common? i always thought the athleticism of some of these guys is a good reason for helmets. high speed collisions on defenseless players are the real issue to me. some players run over 20 mph, if u get 2 colliding with a 10 yard head start, someone is gettin hurt. seems to me like rugby is the same as a constant running play in american footabll. not as many of those hits in rugby

In the professional game loads of them get concussions but because there are only 7 substitutions they have to get and carry on playing, and the game will not stop so they must get up and play immediately... which means about one second because the attacking team will already be a distance away with the ball.

In semi-pro and amatuer level where there are more mistimed tackles concussions can and do lead comma and then death.

The most common injury is broken bones.
