  • Not so safe. 4 stars.

    search euroncap.com

  • notice how little the dummy moves foward

  • now if only the rest would do this test....

  • you can see how the front end is meant to absorb, bu the passenger compartment starting at the door is sold, nice.

  • the red paint was on the dummy for a good reason to test for places to improve on the already safest cars in the world volvo spend billions each year inmproving safety

  • Does ANYONE here type correctly and not in broken english? Looks like you people need an ENGLISH lesson. I personally am NOT satisfied with my 1999 Volvo C70 coupe right now. Oh and by the way, if that "dummy" were a human, they'd be screwed. :-D

  • @Prfct88Nightmare some people are from around the world you have to take that into consideration.

  • @Prfct88Nightmare That dummy would not be screwed. You are wrong.

  • @HateFuckingVolvos why, you jelly?

  • What if you get a side impact after the frontal impact. The side curtain will be useless because it was already inflated and deflated again. That means you will not be protected from an side impact I am just saying.

  • @18iser It did not inflate.

  • It's funny how some dumb asses that can't drive well think they're so smart by buying a car based on it's "safety," usually going by rumors from their co-workers instead of studying raw data. Safety is good, but when you gloat about it, it shows that you are relying on the construction of a car because you intend to one day get into a bad fender bender. Great drivers don't need Volvos, they have skills and avoid accidents, hence the new adaptive cruise from Volvo... it's "idiot" proof driving.

  • the crash.. thats ok.. the test passed i guess. but can any one justify the smoke ?

  • @impulse232 The smoke coming for the inside of the car? LOL...that's what happens when the airbags deploy. I think it's a powder to stop a fire if there's one or something like that.

  • @wafflescantalk Probably a compressed gas that's used to fire the bags (CO2 maybe?? dunno) and/or a powder that is used to keep the bag from getting stuck to itself? I guess if the bag is folded up for 4 years inside a steering wheel before it's needed, it might get stuck to itself, sort of like pizza dough without flour?? (bad analogy).

  • @wafflescantalk the smoke you see is a controlled explosion the explosive expands the bag that fast that it inflates it with air it has holes so it deflates as your body strikes it otherwise you may aswell hit the steering wheel if the bag stayed solid!

  • It happened because plastic dude driving the car

  • i died in a volvo yesterday :(

  • volvo for life! and ill pick volvo xc60

  • All cars are dangerous. Meny people die in cars and under cars.

  • no such thing as a safe car only safe drivers

  • yes there is, if you crash a car, what saves you from the crash? the car!

  • @beetletweed lol. with that opinion u willsoon be fucked in traffic. ofc you can buy and old car because u think you are a very safe driver, which i think you are. but it is so many idiots on the roads today u never know. u can never trust other drivers to share your opinion.

  • nobody dies in a volvo

  • beautiful!

  • its 40 mph like 100 km/h

  • not its about 65 km

  • haha i realised it when i wrote it after when pushed the button :D :D and i now 60 mph = around 100km/h and 40 mph = 65 km/h :D

  • i think 50-60 km/h

  • how fast is this car going ?

  • lol, me and my dad were driving in 220km/h for some time ago, and he doesnt have the turbo, buy the vovlo s6 t5 instead (turbo 5)

  • The car looks uncrashed in the seats even when it ahs already crashed! I love my s60, and am sure, I'll survive, no matter what happens to me on the road! Thanx Volvo, I'm foreva yours! This is my 6th car, and they all have been Volvo!

  • Lmfao... the way the dummie hit his head on the B pillar, it doesn't really look that safe... that could break the skull easily

  • Well, maybe. But I'd be happy only to break the skull, rather that remain with no legs or hands. At least I'd stay alive. The skull can be easily mended in comparison to the back-bone)))

  • saab will dissappear

  • your probably right unless SAAB gets some seriously good models out seriously quick. Volvo on the other hand has a great line up, the new s80 is probably the most beautiful car i haver ever seen.

  • SAAB is screwed... they have been for the last like 20 yrs: selling less and less cars

  • SAAB is just the GM version of VOLVO SAAB are cool cars but they a VOLVO wanna be- there can only be one Swedish car company in the world and that should be volvo..

  • R U Joking!! The S60 looks like it's goin 100kph standing still while the saab 9-5 looks like a nerd mobile with all that bulk!

  • Faster? 250 hp compared to 300? Plus FWD versus AWD.!?

An S60 R is way faster than an Aero

  • @Lillie1986 Ive actually tested one s60r against our 250hp 9-5 aero wagon with automatic box...aero was better at 60-150 and 80-200. Both car were stock and volvo was manual.

  • watch it again driver head striking to window frame,,,

  • i noticed that automatically "0.0 holy s*** if the impact didn't kill him the recoil from the force onto that window frame could've!!!"

  • I haven't checked the IIHS S60 page but head hits on the B-pillar are usually negligible.

  • Comment removed

  • Ouch,... da bekomme ich Hertzschmerzen.

  • This is at 40mph right?

  • wtf is that supposed to mean?

  • that means you can use google to check at what speed does NCAP test all cars.

  • dude all i wanted was to make sure I was correct. There are more than single speed tests. I am not like an expert on crash tests. I own a S60 and I was wondering how fast this was. So thanks for being a smart mouth you prick.

  • You're more than welcome! :-)

  • i think this may have been aroudn 50km/h

  • im pretty sure this is ncap crash test and then its 64 km/h.

  • I'm curious about that myself.

  • 2009 s60 2.5t AWD

had it for over a month now very solid ride.

    Other cars in my family:

Saab 93 2.0t (faster than volvo but smaller),

    Mercedes GL450(feels like a ship)

S60 is a verynice car, just need a little refresh on the design.. especially the S60.

  • The S60 looks good the way it is. Wouldn't change anything.

  • that why i love volvo!!!!!!

  • benz does this better

  • well lucky for you pro volvo lovers but my s60 has more issues than a homosexual muslim with 3 kids.

  • hahaha well said

  • i think you should take it to your local service shop for some checking. i believe you're the only one having problems! good luck to you sir!

  • Common problems with the s60 are faulty abs defective seal on the oil return line on the turbo and mass air flow problems. Mine has it all. :(

  • Mine's done 140,000 miles and apart from the clutch and alternator, is mechanically completely original. Still pulls to 140 mph and still 100% oil tight and very reliable. Built like a tank!

  • Incidently it had some lovin from my mechanic in the form of service, turbo flush, brakes stripped and cleaned and i refitted the old bosh MAF instead of the cheap arse one i bought off ebay. It seems happy again. Back to "bulb failure parking light". In addtion the top speed for for my model is quoted at 143mph. I know it will hit the 150 mark. That blower just keeps it pulling, cant argue with you there mate.

  • i have a volvo it has driven 196339 km it is a vovlo s60 2001 model it has no problems at all i mean nothing and its pretty fast too it has a 2.4

  • I agree with Harwell, but we've had both and the S60 is a much better looking car, same engine and infact..i feel the s60 has sportier handling. Love em both :D

  • loooooove my volvo s60 =]]

  • I'm 18 years old and i have a volvo 850 sw and i just love it

  • i have volvo s60, 2003 year with D5 engine.. very cool and car! Thanks to Volvo!

  • Can anyone suggest me: which one is better in term of designs, performance & price? which one is more suitable for someone around 29 years old? S60 'OR' S80? TQ!

  • dude u keep saying this in like every volvo video. if u dont like them stop commenting wow ur fuckin gay

  • Agreed, my S60 R is a lemon

  • i'm starting to head that my myself mate. I think there a afew models out there with alot gremlins.

  • S80 is better in safety but the design is a

little weird. Don't get me wrong, Volvo's

are GREAT cars but the S60 looks nicer and

sportier. If I'm not mistaken, they both

have the same engine. Also the S80, Obviously

is bigger than the S60 too. I would go for the S60 if it were for me. But overall, there

    about the same.

  • The current S80 is safer, but when the new S60 comes out - 2009 - it should level the field. God, that will be a nice car: the new S60.

  • Of course it is safer; it is bigger. S60's are still tanks. My dad got hit by a Tahoe at 60mph at an angle (the rear/side-quarter panel). It threw his car over a median and did a 180. From the amazing safety features, him and his friend in the car's only injuries were burns from a cup of hot mcdonalds coffee in the cupholder. BTW it totaled the Tahoe and we drove the S60 for another 2 1/2 years after it was fixed. Shoot.... it was even the car I learned how to drive in.....

  • Volvo's crash testing is done with input from the Swedish police and based on real accidents instead of designing cars purely to pass the Euro NCAP tests like almost everyone else.

  • I would go for a s60. both a fwd except for s60r (awd). both have really fast models but I think the s60 is much more reliable (costs more to purchase thoug). From what ive heard 1999-2001 s80s were shocking for reliability after 100,000km. Also s60 doesnt havee a lot of rear leg room

  • Well, I feel safer now :D. I just bought my S60 today... I should be picking it up in the next two days.

  • You feel safe now that when you crash the car its only gonna give you major whip lash.

  • actually volvo has one of the most advanced whiplash protection systems. when the car gets hit the back of the seat reclines with the body.

  • u are IDIOT

  • Audi sucks a6 sucks!!!!

Volvo is million times better than stupid german

    car.

  • fuck you bitch! Swedish Power! Proud Volvo Owner!

  • considering volvo didnt make a 740 in 1996. they finished in 1992... so i dont know what you bought

  • My first car will be a volvo! SWEDISH CARS RULE

  • I actually was involved in a car accident similar to this one yesterday morning... Tragically, I lost my S60, but walked away with just some back and neck pain. Volvos really are the safest cars on the road.

  • you didn't have leg injuries coupled

with head injuries other than the

    neck?

..and yes, volvos are awesome for safety!

  • Yeah it's nice to see the crash test of that wall to a Volvo :) Anyway buy a version 1 manual S60R and be happy :)

  • Test shows back of skull smashing door pillar on rebound, I think side curtains should deploy also on frontal impact.

  • i dont think thay will be happen in real man as real man not floppy u have muscle tone also seat belt protect thats from my litle view.. thanks 4 ur comment.

  • Thanks for post fine vid.

They are safe cars no doubt, the best out there, I drive 960 for these saftey reasons, but the crash dummys are structured to simulate real human anatomy. Notice the read paint on the back of dummy skull, it leaves large paint impression on the pillar in red after impact - this probably would have killed or severly injured a person 55 - 85 years old, at least a bad headache for everyone. I still think a delayed side curtain deployment would prevent this impact.

  • may be?thanks again.

  • @fallwaterblues be a better driver

  • @fallwaterblues If you watch the EuroNCAP crash test the dummies head doesn't hit the pillar

  • those dummys are designed to move like us

  • @fallwaterblues lukilly this was a test for future improvement ;-)

  • WOOO! I have one!! haha

Well atleast i know that i will be safe in that

    car! LUV VOLVO!!

btw the structure held up extremely well!! XD

  • thats a realy good car! it is the safest btw

  • Nice. I haven't been lucky enough to test what my 850 would do in that position... ;)

  • No worries, 850s are solid bricks...the chassis does an excellent job of absorbing the energy from a crash.

  • Solid bricks can absorb energy, how? Do you know solid bricks that can deform? I guess it's either one or the other ;)
