Check out my band THE ANDROID MEME here on youtube, we're with the same label as Dave, Magna Carta. Have a look at our video for 'Sumii'. Cheers! And Ps. MARTONE ROCKS!
It's definitely an original, and economical idea! The "squiggie" is an elastic hair tie that probably costs like 50 cents! He uses it on the neck to mute unplayed strings, and it also gives just enough pressure so that if you put it over certain frets you can get harmonics! Half the riffs in this song actually depend on being able to pull off to harmonics produced by the hotties hair tie! OUTSTANDING!
i thnk the guys that mic up daniels kit are really good. that bass drum is the perfect loudness. his playing is good. i want to be able to play like that.
Whether you like it or not, pay attention to his use of nodes. Pretty darn bold and accurate. Almost impossible to do live without really knowing your guitar and taking a look at how you play it. I assume that staying in one tuning also helps one to keep this together better too. The nice thing is, you can use the nodes to pick over and add spice not just exploit.
@Whyrendog If you ever get a chance, play one yourself. It's the smoothest playing guitar I've ever felt. I played on one in a local Guitar Center that had by chance just gotten one in earlier that day, and walked home with it that day, cause I couldn't imagine playing anything else :)
Where do you see Michael Lee Firkins at all in this tune? All of MLF's recent music is the farthest thing from interesting...more like dead beat boring, conventional country blues.
MLF's debut album, which is more in this vane, is still nothing like that. Even though I love both, for different reasons because the music is entirely different.
This does sound like MLF, never noticed lol. This is a departure for Martone as he usually dabbles in other tunings and stuff whereas he wrote this album in standard so he wouldn't have work around the alternately tuned parts live.
yeh. his hand dont move a lot because he does lots of string skips so his fret hand dosntt slid up and down the fret board alot. and then his picking hand doesnt move much either, cause he chicken picks the skipped string notes with his ring finger and pinky, and its very subtle. if you look at his right hand up close his ring finger middle finger and pinky all have rly long nails, and his pointer and thumb are cut short.
Oh man, Dave is such a great guitarist! I just got back from NGW in Purchase NY, and it was always spine tingling walking by great musicians like Dave Martone, Jody Fisher, Terry Syrek, Bill Kratz, and many others. Plus, meeting Paul Gilbert and getting my guitar singed by him made it all the more awesome! One of the best weeks ever!
A "goodie squiggie" is the little elastic hair tie thing he got from the chick at the beauty supply store. You can get yours there or from the oboe player in your local high school band. Oboe players are always eager to give up the goodies!
bit Micheal lee firkins bit Mattias bit satch bit maritone and few more very interesting indeed my new fav guitarist on youtube actually I think the best I have seen on youtube . howcome I havent heard of him before
Man, this is really interesting. It's got a bit of Satriani in there, though. But it's nice to see people taking inspiration from others and making it there own.
pff..the drum pattern at 2:08 is just perfect for the song!! daniel adair is awesome!he shows his skills when he is with martone... is one of my favorites!!
i´ve been su damn tired the whole week, this 4 minute song gave me the energy back faster than 10 black coffees...

The goodie squiggie's truly a genius discovery...placed at the 5th, 7th and 12th fret, it gives very clear natural harmonics...
