  • I suspect a normal sized person would have a hard time picking up and playing this "portative" while walking with it. I'm no expert, but this looks an awful lot like a positive organ (one you place on the floor to play) rather than a portative (which you carry in your arms while playing).

  • I listened to this organ in person last week. It sounds amazing. I suspect the mic is just way way too close in this video. Might be a dry room too.

  • Please correct!

This is NOT a "PORTATIVE" organ.

This is * POSITIV * pipe organ (or "positif", or "positive"). I'm surprised that David persists in calling this a "portative". Yes, it is relatively "portable" -- but it is NOT a "portative" organ, which is held by the performer, rarely has much more than an octave of pipes, and has a bellows operated by the same.

@ fnersch - it is a very modern instrument built in the past few years by Henk Klop (google for more ...)

  • @aBachwardsfellow - Correct medaeval termonology would meke this a positive, as the portative, strickly speaking was an instrument carried and played in processions. This is most definitely a Positive or a Continuo organ. That said, it is a rather nice one, but I think the microphone placement in this film made for a less than ideal recording.

  • This organ sounds like a box organ (positiv). Good playing. Thanks.

  • I like the playing, but the organ sounds rather rough.

  • What piece is this?

  • isn't this a positive organ?

  • David is the best teacher I've ever had!

    Thanks for posting this video!

  • FYI - It's Neiweem, not Nieweem. Thanks. Katie Neiweem Anthony

  • Nice playing. That appears to be a small box organ from the late 16th or early 17th C. Thanks for sharing this little gem.

  • Nice performance, great sound. Artist at work playing melodies and harmonies to be remembered.
