She did not kill herself. According the writers of Danny Phantom, she was waiting for a guy to call her and pick her up but he did not show. Then she fell asleep and later the house burned down, hence the name Ember. Man it would be sweet to get awesome ghost powers when tragedies happened... you know... instead of dying...

I believe that the story plainly tells how she became a ghost. She committed suicide shortly after her career because her boyfriend left her for another girl, she became a Goth Rock-star, and when her fans stopped paying attention to her...that's when she killed herself. So, hence now, she's a ghost. Hope that answers your question! :)

Although there is some way of finding a back story on ember, lets just be honest that danny phantom creators werent actually expecting her back story to be that sad and was only thinking of the character rather than a story behind why shes so obsessed to be loved.. There is a guy on deviant art that wrote the best saddest story for ember. She got pregnant at 16, her mother called her a whore and threw her out, her baby's daddy wanted nothing to do with her so she snuck back into her parents house and set herself on fire with this song clutched in her hand on a piece of paper. Strangely the paper was the only thing not burned when the firefighters found her. Go to google to read the story, it's sad but very very well written. Makes me feel sorry for ember.
