WOW! You learn something new everyday! I never knew Surface did a remake! LOL I don't think Surface did a bad job of it, personally, but that's just my opinion. The irony of PhflyDan1 's comment is interesting. Its may may true that the internet has corrosive influence, but it can be just as helpful. Otherwise, i wouldn't believe this!

Why didn't Surface release this first? I'm thinking when they produced this (from what i've read) and gave the song to Hi Tension to record and it seems to have backfired on Surface because HT's version is way better (in my absoulute opinion and others) than Surface's offering which came out later. Maybe they're both one of the same? Royalties due to the writer on both versions..

Hi Tension version is raw ,surface version polished but being from Manchester Hi Tension version wins hands down and at my get togethers this is the must play version. Not a lot wrong with Surface version but this is the one.

A few of these people making out the Hi Tension VS Surface issue, YES of course Hi Tension recorded Happy first...and YES to many it is the best version, but remember Hi Tensions version was produced & arranged by David Pic Conley and indeed written by David along with, wait for it... Bernard Jackson & David Townsend who made up the other members of Surface.... So just chill and enjoy the music for what it is. .. A timeless 80's classic boogie tune.

You're having a grin mate. Hi Tension released Happy 2 years before Surface released their cover version. Hi Tension originally released it in 1984 and then Surface covered it (badly) in 1986. Get your facts right dude!!

Hi tension is the original caus eit is from 1984 whereas Surface is from 86. Instrumentaly speaking, Hi Tension version is way better but concerning vocals i prefer the Surface version.

@Mixsensei Hi Tensions is much better my brother. The 'backing' vocal of "YOU MAKE ME HAPPY" is a HUGE part of the catchyness. Surface for whatever reason omitted it, which made their version too polished and weaker.
