Ah great memories of the Airlines thei hey day was in the '60,s. I have to agree with iefpro01, bad managenent is what killed these great airlines more than anything else
Do not agree with LURQIZA...I was fleet service with AA when they did the stupid thing and hooked with TW.. TWA's fleet service was given their senority and most went above us who had been waiting for years to become full-time...all we ever heard was how bad AA was to them...most should have retired years ago...Blame TWA's board for allowing their airline to be purchased...Old planes..old employees...
When I was six years old, my mother took me on my first airplane, a TWA.707 jet. I got a pair of TWA wings and the I remember the flight attendant had a smile on her face and being very nice. At first I was scared because I watch a war movie that showed planes flying upside down. I thought the plane I was on would do the same. The flight attendant smiled and took me to the cockpit to make me feel comfortable. So, as I got older, I made TWA my airline. Too bad is gone forever!
TWA was going to be out of business any way, specially after 9/11 ( but they will never make it there) so AA made a rescue operation without ever knowing it. But I have to say that the best Flight Attendants ever, TWA Flight Attendants, period.
Awh I used to go on Pan American and TWA that made me so sorry for them and I remember I went on Pan American to Portsmouth and TWA to Dallas I hade great memories on those airlines.
A similar situation happened after Pan am took over National Airlines. PAA made a commitment that no NAL staffers would loose their jobs. That's exactly what happened, across the board long time Pan Amers were let go and National staff without intl. experience took over. And they ran PAA into the ground.
Braniff was one of the first to fall after deregulation. I lived in Dallas when it collapsed. It was big news. They had made their name on luxury and extra service. With deregulation they couldn't compete with the bargain airlines like Southwest and their peanut flights.
@bequita1959 What truly put the final nail in Braniff's coffin was AA/AMR American Airlines! In the early days of deregulation when many airlines betted on expansio, perks, new equipment to attract passengers American who share Texas as a base with Braniff, use the non restricted directional IATA fares that gave the business traveler the flexibility to the most convenient option at travel time, this allowed AA to seat on Braniff tickets and call them in for pay to break them at the right time!
That white PAN AM B-52 is a fake / photoshopped picture. The U.S. Air Force would never allow one of their B-52's to be "bastardized" in such fashion.
@Milstar73 You mean Pan Am been associated with bastards? I agree since the last true war we fought WW2 all have been chose by administrations Military Conflicts! The military today is nothing but the bodyguard & bouncers of American Corporate as they invade foreign economies for profit! Please when they couldn't brake Vietnam today like common prostitutes we are there investing and making money of the blood of our citizens! DISGUSTING!
Its a shame the passenger 747 is a dying breed..soon to be replace by A-350's at least with United..they used to rule the skies..They will always be my all time fave commercial plane..I hope the international carriers like Singapore and Korean etc hold on to theirs..
@landobnice No need to worry the go ahead has been given to the B747-800 it will give the A380 a run for their money the new B787 will take care of the A350, we're alright!
To who ever posted the video great work! Now, the TW aircraft with the AA livery from the HOSTILE ACQUISITION was not call for! AA/AMR acted despicable! Their Flight Attendant Union/APFA together with TW Union IAM manage to screw the TW Flight Attendants! They put them in the bottom of the AA seniority list, then they use 9/11 to furlough them, then AA overworked their crews for over 5 years to make them lose their legal recall rights! Out 0f 18,000 TW less than 3,000 remain in AA ! AMR/AA LIARS
@AmericanAirlinesRule I got news for you! American does not rule and now that DL & NW (Delta & Northwest) merged and CO & UA (Continental & United) merged the only viable candidate AA/AMR has left is the only future of airline survival. consolidation is US "USELESS AIR" AA & US (American & USAir) truly deserve each other, what US has done to America West is very similar to AA's doings with Braniff, Trans Caribbean and Trans World Airlines, we all wait for their demise! AA YOU CAN ROT IN HELL!
I Rember all these airlines , it's really sad to see them all gone . I to worked for one that also shut down ,, Eastern ,, But I do rember Braniff's wild colors airplanes . It's really sad
I believe Juan Tripp (PAA) did similar things to NYRBA with his political connections so it came back to sting him...that's business...I rode PAA dc7c from Rome to Istanbul...great flight and TWA from NYC to Chicago, my first jet :) I have 2 postcards showing a Southern and Republic plane with the same registration numbers...Republic bought Southern so why change numbers? Nice images, I liked the adverts and the misc bits that most of us toss:)

Correct me if i'm wrong, but Braniff was huge! Used to run ops on Pan-Am, TWA, and Eastern. Now, South Park (the cartoon...) What happened?

The owner brought too many 747s and got his airline heavily in debt.
