The very first song I ever played .... I was 12... played it lying on my lap... on one string (the guitar only had two strings - E & A)... using my left thumb to hold the string and my right thumb to pick it until I developed a huge blister. That's Rockin Roll!
Back in the 80's, an electronic music group called "the art of noise" put a Dwayne Eddy spin on this song but I still prefer the original which I first heard on a complimentary 8-track tape called "The Many Moods of Mancini" which came with my dad's 1974 Chrystler New Yorker. I was too young to remember the original TV show and its opening theme.
A friend of mine used to put on these local fashion show things down in Tampa. Her opening was always a Peter Gunn skit. All of us in th show would have a black coat over either a black dress or a bathing suit, the private-eye hat, and fake guns. I had a lot of fun doing those, and this song always got our show started with a lot of energy.
@81904elbows It sounds a little old fashioned. That's why recorded a new version. Check out our video to hear the new and improved Peter Gunn theme. And stop hoarding all those elbows, you can hardly walk thru your livingroom anymore. Besides, what will the neighbors say?
Mancini originally did this, I am not sure if this is him or not, really does not sound like him. He has an excellent version on the album "Symphnic Soul"
Probably my favorite of all tv themes. So typical of the late 50s-early 60s. It's jazz and bluesy sound fit the show's subject perfectly. Mancini was the best for composing themes.
Always love to here this song. One of the best TV theme songs ever. The late great Henry Mancini was a genius. Thanks a LOT for posting this for us to enjoy! :)
All I can think of is The Blues Brothers!!!!! LOL
