This calls to mind fizzy, fruity pink-lemonade bubblegum...dusted with NECCO Wafer powder!
Definitely unisex, and thankfully, not treacly like Gaultier 2. This is definitely aimed at a European customer, and despite the fruitiness, it's not one of those "like me, like me," paws-in-the-air fruity-florals. "Ma Dame" is just wacky, not flirty, so I concur with the "['Ma Dame'] does not care what you think of her" comment.
I katie! would you please do a review of JPG Classique (the eau the toilette, which i think it is the kinda "signature" one of the brand). I find it so interesting, i'd love to hear what you think. Ty a lot
Could you please review "le male terrible" by Jean Paul Gaultier? I'm really curious how your opinion on it will turn out, because all I can smell in le male terrible is fresh laundry (and I quite like it). thanks!
@Kerosenetrewthe Interesting question. Even though Ma Dame is marketed as a feminine, its odd herbal tarragon/anise twang to the orange/vanilla makes it plausible for guys to wear. But because it's brightly candy-sweet, I'd say it's more feminine than Fleur du Male. FdM is a masculine approach to orange flower - a dandified, old-school masculine approach to be sure, but masculine all the same.
Could Ma Dame be a unisex fragrance? I smelled this the other day and didn`t found it feminine at all. Gaultier2 is WAY more feminine than this. What do you think?
Yes Ma Dame is so unique and uhm strange. I advised my sweet friend to buy it as her second perfume (the first one is Femme - Boss), my bad. Ma Dame is not silly, she's outrageous.
I smelled the the regular Jean Paul Gaultier perfumes and they are EXTREMELY too strong. I sprayed one spritz on a tester far away from my body and started to gag and cough uncontrollably. I like the smell of Ma Dame but is this eau de tolliette the same way. Being with the same staying power?
Ma Dame is a very distinctive, almost strange, fruity-sweet smell when it first goes on, but it does calm down after a bit. I don't think it's as overpowering as some of the JPG frags you might have experienced. It's also worth checking out the summer version of Ma Dame, Ma Dame Eau Fraiche, which is lighter than the original.
i always like ma dame when i sprayed it on in passing in the mall but now that i own it i seem to be over it already. and i agree its super strong you have to be really careful when u put it on
I think of strawberries when i smell ma dame, i find it a bit too strong, like it gave me a headache, but i still like the perfume because its very unique, and it stands out, there's not another perfume that smells like it, and thats why i like it! I also love JPG and the bottle is cute, i'm actually getting ma dame soon as a gift, my grandma is getting it for me =)
I agree, Ma Dame is pretty unique. But if it's giving you a headache, you might try out the new "Eau Fraiche" version of it. It's a lighter, "fresher" version, though if the original version got any fresher, it would slap me across the face!
It doesn't smell so much like bubble gum half as much as it does a sweet, overpowereing citrus. It burned a little bit, like a sugar plum fairy plugged up my nose. I liked the name, as it sounded very classy and musky. And then I smelled it.
Hmm...I reviewed the eau de toilette. Don't know about an edp. I did just Google the brand new Eau Fraiche version of Ma Dame to see if that was an edp, but it's an edt, too.
I disagree... I think this fragrance is a masterpiece. Opening with an inense anise then an amazing dry down to a completely different musky fragrance. A work of art.
I really want to suscribe but, u didn't smell any Thierry Mugler fragrances or maybe more J.P Gaultier fragrances. And i'd suscribed right away if you reviewed Kylie Minogue's perfumes. But I still love how you describes scents.
I just bought this perfume after I received a sample from Sephora. I like the citrus element to this scent. I guess I like smelling like fizzy fruity bubblegum :) Kinda reminds me of Tommy Girl, but less floral
I just smelled this one again at the perfume counter yesterday. It is truly bonkers. It's like a crazy person who wanders into the middle of a night at the opera, screaming and cackling and throwing rubber chickens at the audience in their gowns and tuxes.
My question is - is the fizzy fruity bubblegum already chewed, or do you have to chew it yourself? Anything that is going to attract small stinging insects can't be good! BUt you are always fun to watch!
I would say that Ma Dame captures the essence of fruity bubblegum after approximately 5 1/2 chews, when the fruit flavor is still bursting forth. You are in no danger of insects when wearing this thing - probably just the opposite!
Yer funny-I like you, (and I don't usually like perfume). As a smeller you have probably already smelled "L" by Gwen Stefani, but if you havent I highly recommend it! It's the only perfume I've ever bought and my boyfriend says naughty things to me when I wear it. Actually he bought it for me. Maybe he thought I stunk before.
The fragrance smells nothing like 'fruity bubblegum' (that would be Paris Hiltons 'Heiress'). I love watching perfume reviews that actually review the perfumes...
Hi Izabelle - I do welcome your take on the frag, cuz descriptions are subjective, and together, we can build up a complete picture of the scent. Maybe you and I don't chew the same bubblegum ;) Others have described Ma Dame as smelling like Now & Later candy, but I couldn't say for sure, since I've never sampled that particular treat!
I remember JPG's fragrance that came out many years ago, it was in a tin can and the bottle was shaped like a little male mannequin. I didn't care for the fragrance at all.
I appreciate Gaultier. He amuses me, what with his baguettes as evening wear stunts. And yet...I'm not convinced that I'd want to try his new scent.
But that's okay, because apparently, MaDame DOES NOT CARE!
I'm not sure if I'd wear this particular scent. I'd have to smell it first. Question for you...Is it true that if, lets say 10 people used the same perfume that it would smell different on each person? I get complimented quite a bit on several perfumes I use, atleast several times daily and yet my mom and sis wear the same perfume and are rarely complimented on it. Your thoughts on this?
Great question! It has been said that "you plus the perfume equals the fragrance", meaning that your own chemistry (hormones, diet, hygiene, etc) combines with what's in the bottle to result in what people around you smell. And yet, I think that once the scent moves past the top notes, the stuff in the bottle is pretty much what you smell on everyone. If there was too much discrepancy, the fragrance companies wouldn't have a product that was consistent enough to sell!
Regarding your compliment ratio vs your mom's and sister's, maybe you wear more than they do, or maybe your friends are just more complimentary! Nice friends!
I love your reviews because I can always picture what the perfume smells like. A lot of people will just say it smells like this fruit or that flower but you bring it to a whole new level. :) I love your closing line it is so clever and funny.
Ohhh Now and Laters smell really good. I'm really tempted to buy this now. I'd like to slap people with my perfume lol This is probably one of my favorite reviews that you've done so far.
This one really pops. I've read people describing Ma Dame as smelling like that candy Now and Laters. I never ate those as a kid - I was too busy breaking my teeth on Atomic Fireballs.

Ma Dame could easily work as a unisex fragrance, because of that odd herbal/tarragon aspect it's got at the beginning
