you shoot anything in the ear or in the eye with a .22 magnum it will drop dead. Just ask the inuit. In California it's not uncommon for Rangers and Game wardens to cull troublesome bears and deer with .22 mag
I've personally seen a blacktail dropped with a well placed shot in the ear with .22 lr, the wind was blowing hard and the others in the group didn't even hear the shot, they just stood there chewing grass.
ive got a 40 & a 12ga but have been thinking about getting a home defense/shtf rifle. Cant afford an AR or AK right now. Like the SKS but its ramped mags dont fit vest pouches. I recalled THIS vid & thought why dont i tac out a 10/22? Ive been shooting 20 yrs, I wont miss much, so why worry if its 'enough'? Unless I'm defending against armored individuals, I KNOW it is. I can get a KelTec SU16 or an AK later when Im ready. Any thoughts on that? How bout a 22 pistol recommendation?
Great message, thank you! Guns are not the weapon - the mind is. I like to believe a trained marksman with an accurate .22lr hit will always be more dangerous than a randomly aimed "miss" with a .45!
@TheBlitz1 My question would be..Why are you shooting little babies ?
On the serious side...I've seen a CCI mini mag hollow point go through over 15 inches of ballistics gel...(shooting a 4 inch pistol)...And yes it was properly calibrated
It will go through a 2x4
There is a vid here of it going through a baseball
@swordsman3000 I saw the baseball vid & the guy who can split avocados at 225 yards, thats what got me thinking maybe a 22 is really enough power & accuracy. starting to really realize that maybe spending $800 on an AR for defensive purposes isn't entirely all it's cracked up to be...
An AR with M855 green tip penetrators will slice right through both sides of a car (minus side impact door beam type stuff) an still ruin a bad guys day, and IMO that is one of the more likely scenarios in a WROL situation....A 22lr aint doin' that
Now you could carry a 10/22 for multiple soft targets in the open (i.e. riot situation) and then use your sidearm to dump alot rounds into any vehicles the bad guys use for cover
I completely agree. A .22LR firearm is one of the most versatile firearms any gun owner can have, with the exception of a good 12ga shotgun. In a crisis, small game is going to be a main source of fresh meat for the table, a .22LR is perfect for that and it's low report doesn't draw a lot of attention. It's cheap to stockpile, and takes up little room. Not my first choice for protection. I have better weapons for that, but in a pinch, in the right hands it can perform well for protecting.
I own a Ruger .22 lr rifle and frankly, it's the best and most reliable firearm I've owned so far. In addition I've a .300 win mag Merkel rifle, which I seldomly use since I've had the Ruger.
I agree with 90% of the video. I have too, my channel is nothing but .22s. The .22 caliber is a great round. Back in the 60's, they trained army snipers with a .22 rifle. They did this to help train them with their breathing and trigger control.
@Wildcat425B Just what I was thinking ? Perhaps The Walking Dead ? Sunday nights..don;t need to conserve any ammo with ZOMBIES double tap to the head .22s are cheap by the thousand.
They keep you alive. I'd much rather own a .22 then any other rifle in the world. You can get thousands of rounds for less then $60... can't do that with .223 or 7.62x39 hell you cant even get that for a 5.45x39. With enough practice with a .22 you can shoot off the numbers on playing cards at 75 yards..
and whats the point of owning a high powered rifle if you can hit anything with it, or pay for the ammo bill for it. 5.56/7.62/.308 gets pricey after awhile
@Praetorian556 the thing is you have to use the right gun for the right situation. If you're going up against an armed opponent, a bear, or a mountain lion, that .22 is not looking too good anymore. And that's just the kind of stuff you might have to shoot in the American continent.
well it varies what part of the country your around as well, where I'm from, Moose and Buffalo are probably more deadly then a Bear. It's also a good idea to carry a small .44 with hardcast ammo if your worried about Bears and such.
@Praetorian556 Good old 12g,100 rounds at wally world for 20 bucks and you get all kinds of different rounds. Distant's is a problem but you only need 100 yards.Hand gun I would run a 9mm,cheap ammo,22s are ok but too much crap ammo.
Important purchase? Hogwash. Personally, I would never take on the potential legal liability associated with teaching another (child or otherwise) outside my family how to shoot. Beyond that, practice is to gain familiarity with the firearms you'll actually use, with a shotgun more effective for small game, a large caliber rifle superior for larger game, and a moderate caliber handgun better suited for self-defense. And I don't really care if any of those hear the firearm involved.
@stewartx5 Negative, every gun owner should own a .22, you ain't a gun man unless you have a .22 of some sort or understand they're the gun everyone loves to tinker around using. They're cheap to shoot, fun to shoot, good for target pratice gun, they will shoot long distances accurately. I could kill a deer with my .22 if I wanted, lol I could kill a man as well in 1 shot.
I could survive in the wild with my .22 rifle and a few boxes of Winchester 555.
Nonsense. I've been around firearms all my life - hunting, self-defense, military, and so on. Got rid of my last .22 when I was about 13~14-years old and certainly wouldn't trade any of the many weapons used or owned since for another. Ballistic tests consistently prove even an accurately fired .22 cannot reliably ("reliably" being the key word) bring down a man, deer, or similar at distances beyond a few short yards.
@weewoodeal And I have shot a deer running 100 yards away... deer is faster than a man. Now why in the hell would I not be able to hit a man... lol practice and then you will be able to hit stuff.
@CannabisDelux your name and your comment clearly states you are soo stoned rigth now that you really can't use your hand eye corrdination correctly. i'd go listen to some regae.....
Nooooooo. A 17 is ten times the rifle a 22 will ever be. Its more accurate, its faster, it has a supressed cartridge, and you can get a good one for $75. In Canada that is. Its all you damn americans thinking you know shit about shit. 22s suck and, by the way, why are you shooting large game with a 22? Its that american brain of yours. You also said they're accurate up to 300 yards. False. They can SHOOT up to 300 yards. They're accurate up to 50 yards. If they're a rifle. The handguns are shit.
@TheOtherRedneck, I would take you seriously, but you're Canadian, and only 15. I've shot many types of rounds, and I don't know if your ammunition up there is garbage, but we can definitely fire 22's at ~300 yards while remaining pretty damn accurate. Maybe you have garbage guns also? 50 yards? I do that with a handgun. Is a 22 my favorite? No, but I know how to use one if I needed to.
@TheOtherRedneck Bring you canuck ass down here and we'll send your tough talking ass packing. I served with some Canadian soldiers, they were good guys. You apparently haven't done much of anything....except make Canadians look like morons.
Good vid. And think: .22rimfire is an inexpensive way to take responsibility as an armorer providing these as a force multiplier to neighbors in a WROL scenario. For about $250ea you can have a stock 10/22, painted black, with a 25rd steel lips mag and a decent sling. Instead of 2500 on your next big caliber gun and goodies, folks, you could put away 10 of these for a rainy day, for barter goods (better than gold), etc.
Agreed. .22 are a fantastic way to dump a lot of ammo for practice. On calm days with a quality gun, scope and ammo you can easily hit grape fruit size targets at 300 yards. Ive seen pcp air gunners knock down rows of pennies at 80 yards and dent the crap out of them to boot. I'm a firm believer in small caliber weapons.
17HMR is a lot smaller then the .22 but it has a Bigger kick & really does some damage. I love my .22 rifle, but for stopping power my .45ACP pistol can't be beat.
@bluezone3 I've killed hundreds of squirells. I bath in their blood and eat the carcass while washing it down with the tears of their hungry children.
@skidooshizel not exactly true I can make 300m shots with my mkII with reasonable accuracy ie human sized target its not as accurate as my 308 but I can't carry 500 rounds and the gun comfortably like the 22
Wish I was American. We only aloud to have single shot rifles in the UK but you have to live or a farm, or join a gun club :( +++POLICE CHECK UPS, ETC...and they won't give it to any tom dick or harry ;D
I totally agree, most calibers are maked for an special situation or use, but, you wont find any thing with the range of posibilities that .55 cal gives to you.
@lemmemakeyouarobot .22 is one of the best survival rounds available. Like he said, you can carry thousands of them, and you can pop squirrels and rabbits till the cows come home.
Poachers kill deer with .22's by shooting them in the eye. The eye socket is an open hole in the skull, allowing the round to scramble the brains. This same method is how airsoft guns have killed people before. Rule #1 in firearm safety, muzzle control.
ur right a 22 will kill a deer, i read an article that said, thats what poachers use to kill a deer but unless you live really in the boonies were there are no houses i would be careful hunting rabbits and squirrels with a 22, sometimes you dont hit ur target.
i spent today at the flea markets locally looking for a rifle of any caliber. i couldnt beleive the prices. a used one is as much as a new one. i did find a new military woodland cammo chemical suit for get this 25 bucks in my size
The .22 is most effective vs small rodents and other animals, not large game. But it is the best calibre for target shooting because the ammo is very cheap compared to most other calibre ammo. Just make sure you buy an accurate .22 rifle and a good scope.
@drazzeldew1 I carry a 380. But I wouldn't turn up my nose at a 22. I can empty my ruger, on target, at 25 yards in less than 5 seconds. Something you cannot do with one of the compact heavy caliblers.
Also, my ruger (22/45) has saved me twice when out target shooting from hogs. A properly placed shot will stone a pig.
"Trauma surgeons report were (WHAT) injuries than other caliber.." Awkward sentence but most of us get the point. If true isn't that stat biased based on the low price and higher availability of .22 ammo? I'd use a 22 for small game but for bigger game like deer or self-defense I wouldn't trust it. Junkie jacked up on PCP is going to be a problem unless you pop him hit something vital. It's awesome cause you can shoot tons without going broke but if my life depended on it, no thanks.
@naireland I did not say I would hunt deer with a 22 . The argument is in a doomsday senario you could survive with a 22. I have many calliber weapons but will always feel the 22 pistol and rifle I have are most important
@Hottrodpt Doomsday scenario? Where the hell did anyone start talking about all that doomsday nonsense? Your original statement was about killing deer with a .22
Im not even going to begin talking about all of that hypothetical doomsday survival crap, simply not relevant or plausible.
ill agree that no firearm collection is complete without atleast one .22 lr or magnum. Enchoraging .22 for any type of big game hunting though is quite unethical. In terms of cavity damage in ratio to grain and velocity the .22 simply is not meant to kill so much as injure game. I never take a shot unless I know that it will put that animal down in one shot with minimal if any pain which is why I use .308 as or 30-06 as the sure thing. Varmint hunting of course their is nothing better.
@sauce12211 Actually yes a deer can be killed with a 22 and one 22 shot to a human forehead would kill them. Don't get all your gun facts from call of duty
@Hottrodpt well of course it can but the liklihood of it happening is almost nill. Any respectful hunter knows to always use the caliber to match the mass. As for headshots this is a definite no no for white tail. Even if you have the shot at 20 yards with a good rifle seat and an unspooked deer by no means should you shoot at the eyeline. Deers heads twitch and a shot through the jaw is going to hurt it something awful. Broadside, above the rib cage through the lung and heart with a heavy grain
@dalesalsa he left out there and more. Trauma surgeons report THERE were MORE injuries..........if you couldnt figure that out on your own you probably should not own a gun. Thank you have a nice day.
Deers CANNOT be killed by a .22 Lr it takes multiple shots to kill a human let alone a deer. Any teenager on here thinks a .22 can conquer the world , but it takes a man to fire .30-06 Springfield .
@sauce12211 .22 Lr rounds kill more civilians then any other due to this exact misconception, just about every gun owner has at least one and people tend underestimate it, just because its not as big around or has as much firepower behind it, doesnt mean its not deadly, treat ALL guns with respect kid
@sauce12211 unless they somehow managed to get a shot through the socket at point blank of course :), I couldnt even imagine any in season hunter sitting in shade with a varmint rifle. To any twerps thinking that a .22 is good for anything more than plinking, training, or zeroing they need to have that gun taken away from them until they realize its limitations. If I ever witnessed anyone taking pop shots at a deer a .22 I will personally disarm them.
@naireland a true hunter would never take out big game with a .22 it causes suffering to the animal unless your a sick bastard then theres no use for it.
I couldnt agree more. great review, I do shoot other calibers for hunting and target shooting but never leave the house to go outdoors, hunting or target shooting without one.
@raisedinwisconsin I shoot guns all the time. Including my 22. And i hunt. But deer have really hard skulls. and 22 is a really "weak bullet" only way i could see it killing a deer is if you get a pretty good shot. Like between the eyes or in the eyes or a temple shot. But that would be hard since you can get point blank like a cow.
@raisedinwisconsin you moron. They use .22 at point blank range between the eyes in order to STUN as to get on a winch or lacerate the jugular for a bleed out. No one in their right mind would hunt big game with a rimfire if not for morality reasons then for sheer practicality.
@naireland i never said it was a good idea to hunt big game with a damn 22! fuck you, i know someone that hunts whitetail with a .22 also so IT CAN KILL A DAMN DEER
@raisedinwisconsin lol good credibility on that statement. I sincerely doubt you know anyone moronic enough aside from yourself whom hunts buck or doe with a fucking .22. Anyone who hunts and expects to take down large game carries a hunting rifle, pistol, or bow not a plinking gun ha ha. Don't bother to cite "john doe" as an accomplished .22 big game hunter by the way, everyone with a shroud of common sense knows that's a bullshit statement. A stick through the eye could kill a deer so void.
@naireland how do you know im fuckin lying you dont know me and what i know so right now yer talkin outta yer ass and bein a an asshole and some cattle farms kill their cattle by shooting them in the skull!
some of these people are dumb, a .22 will penetrate a skull and maybe even bounce around.

@bluezone3 I've killed hundreds of squirells. I bath in their blood and eat the carcass while washing it down with the tears of their hungry children.

This is very true. Very little to no recoil, cheap ammo and plenty fun to shoot. I'd never say no to bringing a .22 to the range.

skidooshizel 1 week ago 2
@skidooshizel not exactly true I can make 300m shots with my mkII with reasonable accuracy ie human sized target its not as accurate as my 308 but I can't carry 500 rounds and the gun comfortably like the 22

Wish I was American. We only aloud to have single shot rifles in the UK but you have to live or a farm, or join a gun club :( +++POLICE CHECK UPS, ETC...and they won't give it to any tom dick or harry ;D
coolVideos231196 1 week ago
The .22 is for training and serves as something easy for children to shoot; that is all.
It is not a sniper rifle; Sniper rifles are designed to work beyond 500 meters
and the 22 is far from that. .30 caliber is the standard.
stove6 1 week ago
@stove6 agree 100%
sauce12211 1 week ago
I totally agree, most calibers are maked for an special situation or use, but, you wont find any thing with the range of posibilities that .55 cal gives to you.

MrStrongarms 1 week ago
@lemmemakeyouarobot .22 is one of the best survival rounds available. Like he said, you can carry thousands of them, and you can pop squirrels and rabbits till the cows come home.

what rifle is on 0:30??
Mushwan 1 week ago
Poachers kill deer with .22's by shooting them in the eye. The eye socket is an open hole in the skull, allowing the round to scramble the brains. This same method is how airsoft guns have killed people before. Rule #1 in firearm safety, muzzle control.
0326Hambone 1 week ago
Could a 22 penetrate a human skull from a good distance?
Froggatt 1 week ago
@Froggatt lol why are you asking...
BlazeChronicGreen420 1 week ago
ur right a 22 will kill a deer, i read an article that said, thats what poachers use to kill a deer but unless you live really in the boonies were there are no houses i would be careful hunting rabbits and squirrels with a 22, sometimes you dont hit ur target.

"Trauma surgeons report (more) injuries and fatalities from a .22 LR than any other caliber.."
Thats because if they were shot by anything larger, they aren't as likely to even make it to the trauma surgeons lol

i spent today at the flea markets locally looking for a rifle of any caliber. i couldnt beleive the prices. a used one is as much as a new one. i did find a new military woodland cammo chemical suit for get this 25 bucks in my size
haleycomet1000 2 weeks ago
The .22 is most effective vs small rodents and other animals, not large game. But it is the best calibre for target shooting because the ammo is very cheap compared to most other calibre ammo. Just make sure you buy an accurate .22 rifle and a good scope.
YFZriderdude15 2 weeks ago
my favourite thing about the .22 rifle is the recoil

22s kicks ass
SuperSig123 2 weeks ago
@drazzeldew1 I carry a 380. But I wouldn't turn up my nose at a 22. I can empty my ruger, on target, at 25 yards in less than 5 seconds. Something you cannot do with one of the compact heavy caliblers.
Also, my ruger (22/45) has saved me twice when out target shooting from hogs. A properly placed shot will stone a pig.

9mm for self defense .22 doesn't cut it.
jesuslovesmebetter 2 weeks ago
@jesuslovesmebetter 22 is less than ideal, of course, but a heck of a lot better than nothing.
lasourisaboyante 2 weeks ago
"Trauma surgeons report were (WHAT) injuries than other caliber.." Awkward sentence but most of us get the point. If true isn't that stat biased based on the low price and higher availability of .22 ammo? I'd use a 22 for small game but for bigger game like deer or self-defense I wouldn't trust it. Junkie jacked up on PCP is going to be a problem unless you pop him hit something vital. It's awesome cause you can shoot tons without going broke but if my life depended on it, no thanks.

@sauce12211 BS any body with military experience would not call any firearm a joke.
Hottrodpt 2 weeks ago
@naireland I did not say I would hunt deer with a 22 . The argument is in a doomsday senario you could survive with a 22. I have many calliber weapons but will always feel the 22 pistol and rifle I have are most important
Hottrodpt 2 weeks ago

Varmint hunting of course their is nothing better.
naireland 2 weeks ago
PM me how you know - I'd love toknow
ChristianArmorOfGod 2 weeks ago
@sauce12211 Actually yes a deer can be killed with a 22 and one 22 shot to a human forehead would kill them. Don't get all your gun facts from call of duty
Hottrodpt 2 weeks ago
@Hottrodpt well of course it can but the liklihood of it happening is almost nill. Any respectful hunter knows to always use the caliber to match the mass. As for headshots this is a definite no no for white tail. Even if you have the shot at 20 yards with a good rifle seat and an unspooked deer by no means should you shoot at the eyeline. Deers heads twitch and a shot through the jaw is going to hurt it something awful. Broadside, above the rib cage through the lung and heart with a heavy grain
naireland 2 weeks ago
@Hottrodpt i dont llay call of duty , i was in the military m the .22 is a joke thats the they are trying to move back to a .30 caliber weaon

Deers CANNOT be killed by a .22 Lr it takes multiple shots to kill a human let alone a deer. Any teenager on here thinks a .22 can conquer the world , but it takes a man to fire .30-06 Springfield .
sauce12211 2 weeks ago in playlist Guns & Ammo
@sauce12211 30-06 isnt that manly, 300 win mag all the way
ElocTheComrade 2 weeks ago
@sauce12211 .22 Lr rounds kill more civilians then any other due to this exact misconception, just about every gun owner has at least one and people tend underestimate it, just because its not as big around or has as much firepower behind it, doesnt mean its not deadly, treat ALL guns with respect kid
RighteousWeevil 2 weeks ago
@sauce12211 unless they somehow managed to get a shot through the socket at point blank of course :), I couldnt even imagine any in season hunter sitting in shade with a varmint rifle. To any twerps thinking that a .22 is good for anything more than plinking, training, or zeroing they need to have that gun taken away from them until they realize its limitations. If I ever witnessed anyone taking pop shots at a deer a .22 I will personally disarm them.
naireland 2 weeks ago
@naireland a true hunter would never take out big game with a .22 it causes suffering to the animal unless your a sick bastard then theres no use for it.

2xtrmshot 2 weeks ago
you can kill a deer with a .22 if u get a headshot
raisedinwisconsin 2 weeks ago
@raisedinwisconsin It wouldnt pierce the skull
Dem0nicPanda 2 weeks ago
@Dem0nicPanda yes it would! they use 22s to shoot cattle and kill them now dont you think it would do the same to a deer?
raisedinwisconsin 2 weeks ago
@raisedinwisconsin I shoot guns all the time. Including my 22. And i hunt. But deer have really hard skulls. and 22 is a really "weak bullet" only way i could see it killing a deer is if you get a pretty good shot. Like between the eyes or in the eyes or a temple shot. But that would be hard since you can get point blank like a cow.
Dem0nicPanda 2 weeks ago
@raisedinwisconsin you moron. They use .22 at point blank range between the eyes in order to STUN as to get on a winch or lacerate the jugular for a bleed out. No one in their right mind would hunt big game with a rimfire if not for morality reasons then for sheer practicality.
naireland 2 weeks ago
@naireland i never said it was a good idea to hunt big game with a damn 22! fuck you, i know someone that hunts whitetail with a .22 also so IT CAN KILL A DAMN DEER
raisedinwisconsin 2 weeks ago
@raisedinwisconsin lol good credibility on that statement. I sincerely doubt you know anyone moronic enough aside from yourself whom hunts buck or doe with a fucking .22. Anyone who hunts and expects to take down large game carries a hunting rifle, pistol, or bow not a plinking gun ha ha. Don't bother to cite "john doe" as an accomplished .22 big game hunter by the way, everyone with a shroud of common sense knows that's a bullshit statement. A stick through the eye could kill a deer so void.
