a good instrument really makes a different. I had never played anything beyond my $200 violin. I thought good instrument is exaggerated until I tried my friend's 5000 euro violin recently. I was blown away by its sound and play-ability. Every note is so clear, my vibrato sounds so clean, and it was so easy to make beautiful sounds...
I am just looking at some of my trainers out of repertoire music - I just typed the name into youtube and listened to your performance. You sucked me in with your musical sensitivity - amazing!! I thought that was only possible in live performances. Thank you !

I normally like the way he plays, but I just don't get this... well, I get what he's going for but I think it was a bad idea. Look at Heifetz' version. Simple melodic playing, with a singing quality, truly heartfelt. It seems like Renaud was trying to get some simple expression out of this but it ended up being completely bland, lifeless, and artificial.
The strings are Pirastro Passions. If your expecting to get that sound you will be severely disappointed. Pirastro Passions are probably the most expensive string on the market next to Pirastro Eudoxa. For whatever this worth I have the 1721 Guarnari Del Gesu. I have played it with both Passions and Eudoxas. Fact is the Passions hold their tone longer. Maybe four to five months. But the Eudoxas sound more like Renards Guarnari. When you really want to get close to that sound buy a nice verifi
Not a single screech from the instruments or the strings. Everything is perfect, from the vibrating vibrato to the little tiny details of the notes and pitch, even the nice intonation.
@vln1912 He's using Passione made by the Pirastro company. Good strings, but expensive. They DO add a powerful, warm, singing quality to a violin, but the Guarneri and the artist here is where that magical sound is actually coming from.
This is the best rendition of Gluck's Melodie I have ever heard! It caresses the heart, lifts the soul and captures pure emotion. Capucon is a special artist in that he could bring music to life! Thank you for the inspiration and the music!!!

I hate it when male violinists display facial emotions like that... its alright with a female, but with a grown man...its not.. sounds good though, surely music... just hate the act
@Risefumota I did not say he does not feel the music... I just said I hate the expression... and I did say it sounds good right? meaning, I actually liked the interpretation
I wonder what planet some of the posters here are from. How can anyone call Capucon a bad violinist? To my ears, he is phenomenal! He is reviving a pure, classic style of playing that hasn't been heard for generations. Just listen to his tone and phrasing!
je suis tout à fait en accord avec vous charlephilippelafont de plus je suis très heureuse de voir qu'un violon comme celui ci soit entre les mains magiques de renaud capuçon.cette mélodie est très belle et est magnifiquement bien jouée!
My dearest mother was ' incinerated ' with this music, one amongst many other nostalgic arias. So dearest ' mamica ' thinking of you for always, M.Y.D.S.R.I.P till I come to join you.
Does anyone know if Monsieur Capuçon is now in possession of this violin? If not, who has it? With this violin, one can easily see why these instruments are called "priceless."
I can answer you. This violin belongs to a swiss bank, BSI, which allows M. Capuçon to play it. On the contrary, it would be very sad to see a so talented violinist and one of the best violins be separated !
Thanks, I appreciate the info. Yes, it's sad when such incredible instruments are kept in museums and are rarely or never touched by a professionals fingers. Good to hear that's not the case with this violin.
This is beautiful, although Mr. Capucon plays very differently from Mr. Stern - and therefore sounds different. But still, it would be interesting to hear this violin with Isaac's bow, no shoulder rest and the same brand of strings that used to be on it...
This violin Reminds me of Isaac Stern's sound!!!!Sorry guys, but he will not be able to plat like Isaac!!!it's just my opinion!!!put down if you want!!!

@pzlavln To be fair, I think the acoustics, or the way it was recorded, being so loud and one-dimensional, doesn't help.
