  • what size is your high tom

  • You sound like Bonham, you look like Bonham, you play Bohnhams kit - is there a kind of hero worship going on here ? or, John - is that really you ?

  • Awesome! Are you in any bands, i'd be interesting in listening

  • ok, now get some tube preamps and compressors to really warm things up. Universal Audio M610's and LA2A's would be nice.

  • @GrooveDrummin I think you're the most talented drummer I've ever heard, period! That includes the celebrity drummers alive and deceased. Including John Bonham; Ian Paice; Buddy Rich; Gene Krupa; Ginger Baker; Mitch Mitchell; Bill Ward; Don Brewer; et cetera. You truly are the chosen one!

  • @jeffreygaudreault

WOW! Nicest words I've ever heard! THANK YOU :)

  • nice set yet simple : ]

  • @GrooveDrummin I think most drummers' drumming as soloists is a bunch of mumble jumble, but your soloing is coherent and sounds like its going somewhere.

  • @jeffreygaudreault

    thanks!

  • no external pre amps?

  • @allanyamaha

    no, straight into the 2626

  • @GrooveDrummin thanks , awesome video.

  • Good Stuff. tasteful and musical what else can you ask for?

  • QUESTION: Do I really have to shut my coputer down, then connect the interface, and then turn on my computer again??? Because thats what the manual says. If I don't do it that way it can harm my computer or the interface. IS This REALLY that important ??? Do you connect the interface that way ??PLEASE RESPOND !

  • @tFrankMusic

I would follow that instruction yes, just in case something does happen, then you can say you followed the manual. Once it's connected doesn't matter if the interface or computer is turned on first.

  • @tFrankMusic Do it like that just the 1st time then you can leave the wires conected ... it shouldn´t be a problem (im a drummer and also an engineer student)

  • that's cool! is it a 24" bassdrum? greetings from germany!

  • @MrEwittersheim

    thanks...14x26"

  • How do you connect this to drum mics? I have xlr cables.

  • @numanuma20

connect to mic and then connect to the back of the 2626. The inputs are xlr so no adapters needed.

  • Brilliant playing, and superbly recorded! I'd say the 2626 sounds really good, but that's more down to the talents of the user than the hardware. Well done.

  • @DiffuseiTuk

    Thank you very much!

  • @princemarvin1

yes, it has 8 X 1/4" trs analog outs

  • @GrooveDrummin thanks. I'm kinda new to these things. so with the 2626 am i able to record each instrument coming each channel and at the end merge them to form a complete track?

  • @princemarvin1

yes, you would connect each of the 8 outs to 8 ins on your mixer and then merge them together on your mixer. Thing is, you may need to be connected to a computer to route the channels. If you go to the M-Audio website I'm sure you'll find the answer to the outs without a computer. If you have a computer connected then I you can easily route the 8 outs to separate 8 ins on your mixer.

  • @GrooveDrummin Thanks. I'm kinda new to this thing. Can the 2626 record each instrument coming in and at the end make a complete track. hope you understand the question

  • @princemarvin1

if connected to a computer you can merge all 8 tracks into 1 or 2 tracks or whatever you want. Remember the 2626 doesn't do the recording, it is an interface. You need an external device that records the signals, ex.) computer, adat.

  • @GrooveDrummin ok just to make it clearer. so i can have a bass, drum, keyboard, vocals, saxophone connected to my analog mixer and the 2626 connected to the mixer and to the computer and record each of these instruments and then merge them to form a complete track right?

  • @princemarvin1

correct...this is how i record my drums...all 8 tracks into the computer using the 2626 and merge them onto a 2 track stereo mix with the right software. I've been using REAPER to record and merge (render) tracks. You can then connect all 8 outs to your mixer inputs because the 2626 connects to the computer via firewire.

  • @GrooveDrummin Thanks again.

  • @princemarvin1 the answer is yes, you need the 2626 and a computer. all you need after is a program to record the instruments plugged in! each of the 8 inputs can be a seperate track ex of programs are logic and pro tools

  • which mics r u using???

  • @metalupyourass9

please see my profile for complete list of gear

  • beeeeaaassssttttt!

  • I just wondered if you could inform me what computer/specyou are using along with the 2626 as I want to get one myself....But am not sure what off the shelf system would work with such an interface?? Does there have to be anything special about the computer in order to work with this interface?

    cheers

  • @redpersonaband

so long as the system meets the requirements that the interface recommends, you'll be fine. I'm using a dual core 3ghz w/2g ram and a scsi hard drive. The interface using very little resources so I don't think you need that powerful of a system but because I am doing video editing I needed a dual core.

  • great drumming man and great sound. I have a profire 2626 too but haven't recorded any drums with it as yet but I will soon. I agree that the toms could be a little louder in the mix but rest of the kit sounds fucking awesome.

  • @72wicksy

    Thank you, enjoy the 2626...

  • Hi,thats a great drum sound!Im thinking about buying a M-audio profire 2626 would you recommend it ya?Excellent drumming by the way :)

  • @bugeyedmudafuka2

Hi, thank you kindly! I would absolutely recommend the 2626. I had a Roland daw before and the I can say the 2626 sounds better. Go for it!

  • Dudeee, it sounds great. I have the profire 2626, pro tools, gretsch catalina club jazz and audix, akg, shure, rca mics, but i cant get a sound nearly as well as you.

    Is your room treated?

I am drooling over the ludwig

  • @thepilgrimsdream

Thanks! No the room is concrete walls with 3 foot insulated knee walls. I use the office dividers to dampen the room a bit but that sound is coming from fact it is a BIG room...35x50'.

  • Phenomenal!

  • Wow..excelent drum sound! just a question if the m-audio profire 2626 is that great with your drum sound , what do you know/think about rme fireface 800? will sound this good also? (for example comparing , ad - da converters and preamps )

  • hey, awesome sound. Im tihnking of buying the 2626, after this i think i will! one question. what mics are you using on this kit?

  • nice kit. now you need a big John Henry Bonham logo on the bass drum (;

  • the kick sounds unbelieveably awesome how do you tune your kick

  • I love the way these ludwig drums sound!!!

  • im pretty sure this guy could jack off all day and not get tired

  • craaaaaaaazy sound man!!!

    congrats!!!

  • Amazing what a little good mic placement and minor tweaking can do. And here are all these other people wanting to put EQ's and compress the snot out of drums.... Here is a great example of a great sounding drum set. :)

  • WOW that drumkit sounds awesome!! I really like it.. + ur a great drummer :) Nice mixing also..

Im actually thinking about buying the 2626 for my little studio, are you using protools?

  • @osfa73

Thanks! Go for it, I had a Roland setup before and the 2626 blows it away. I am using Reaper software.

  • WOW that drumkit sounds awesome!! I really like it.. + ur a great drummer :) Nice mixing also..

Im actually thinking about buying the 2626 for my little studio :D

  • Awesome! Great sound and great drumming!

  • I tried to go for that same sound. I can do it live with no mics and it sounds good to my ears. But I just started recording drums this week and was forced to take off my front bass drum head. I get a dry 70's thing happening but it's not what I was going for. Also my snare is thin and weak. (57 on top, Digital Reference on bottom) RE 20 inside kick. How can I get the beefiness in my snare recordings like you? Does it mostly come from the 57? What do you think about two 57s top and bottom?

  • @totigerus

Don't use fx or processors, actually no eq either, just straight signal. I reverse the polarity on the mic under the snare but here's my trick...I have one mic for both the snare reso and bass drum batter so you get both on a reversed phase. With a mic on the batter side of the kick you can put that "non-ported" reso back on and place your mic about 10-12" away pointing right at the area where the beater hits. I have to add that part of the sound is how the snare is played too.

  • @GrooveDrummin thanx for the reply brother. I'll give that a try. I copied your top snare mic setup pretty closely. I got a WAY better sound with more beefiness that was previously missing in my recordings. I almost got a m-audio 26X26 like you but for some reason I ended up getting a PreSonis FireStudio. Now I need a room/OH stereo pair of mics like the AKG 414's. Any suggestions?

  • @fizzler73

ludwig LM402 (supraphonic) Thanks for the kind words!

  • yeahh man ur good, i enjoyed ur video :)

  • Bonham, you idiot ! Why did you quit Zeppelin and faked your death?! No, seriously, great drumming there, dude. The sound is awesome too. Almost like the sound from In Through the Out Door.

  • nicely paced & musical solo - - I like to listen to drum solo and and also for loudspeaker evaluation. Do you sell 24/48 tracks (or 16/44)? (how much does YT compress audio?) Best, Freddy

  • Very good, naturalistic recording combining excellent technique and technology. So many people try to rely on machines to get their sound/performance. Nice to see some people demonstrating what I'd call "the right way". Not that there's anything wrong with processing tracks, just too many people learn to process before learning to tune or play.

  • it looks like 57 in the snare top, and an e602 for the bass drum?

  • thats such a pure tone! What mics did you use, and did you use any external converters or pre's ?

I've got the profire also, but find the pres a little dull in most instances. If that was just with the profire alone, i am stunned.

  • @firebird1131

All the mics i use are listed on my profile page. No external devices, just the 2626 into the computer. Actually, this take doesn't have any eq, processing or effects but I did use the iZotope Ozone plugin to master the final mix. Thanks for watching.

  • You know, I'm glad that the vintage sizes are comming back!

Awesome looking kit and nice chops there. Bonzo would be proud :D

  • I love the kit ! I'm ordering my Ludwig Maple Classic this week.. can't wait!

  • @Spydr2000

mention my name to Ludwig if you can....be nice to get endorsed by them, then I can test more shells and post vids.

  • I just wanna drop in and say that you're probably the greatest drummer of your type on youtube. You give me lots of licks and other inspiration for my playing. Thanks for posting videos.

  • @tight384

You're welcome and thank you for the very kind words and interest.

  • did you master this in protools?

  • @tokyorose999

    Reaper using iozone plug

  • Your kit sounds great. I understand you are using a Yamaha mz105be on the kick batter side; does it compare to an SM58? I am using an SM57 in that position but it is picking up the snare like hell. How do you manage this?

  • @overdriven56

Very similar in sound characteristics. It does pickup a lot of snare but that's ok as it adds to the sound. I actually have another mic under the snare also but remember to reverse the phase on both the batter kick mic and the snare reso (if used). Thank you.

  • @GrooveDrummin Oops! I did not thought about phase issue but it explain that in my case, it does not add to the sound. It makes it rather harsh. Thanks a lot for your answer.

  • Great sound from the kit, nice look too.

How do ya like the 2626? I've been thinking of swapping out my PreSonus FP10 for it.

  • @SonicOrbStudios

Thanks. I like it better than my Roland VM3100pro but I can't say about the FP as I have never tried one but the guy at the music store said the 2626 sounds better.

  • any advice for a decent batter drum heads for a 26" bassdrum and for a snare drum..? i like a lot your sound congratulations.!

  • @thewretchedrod

I recommend Remo coated Emperor for both bass and snare drum batters.

    Thank you.

  • Great playing and recording!

  • Toontrack Superior Drummer?

  • Toontrack Superior Drummer?

  • Hey man...great sound man. What mics are you using?

  • @DJQuips

see my profile for a complete list...thank you!

  • @GrooveDrummin I see...thanks bro. What do you think about miking most of the drums with SM57s for rock based music?

  • @DJQuips

57s are great and will sound fine. If you can however, use at least one condenser for the overhead. Gives better smoother top end on the kit. Make you sure you point the mic towards impact point.

  • Love the sound of the snare, all and al very colorful and live. only wish is that you would have put the levels for the FT and TT just a little higher!

    Great stuff

  • Those rolls were TASTY.

  • im gonna guess your a boham fan ?

  • Thumbs up! Very nice gear and a very great sound!

I was wondering if you could give "You Better, You Bet" by the Who a try. It has a sort of unusual beat, but catchy too. A quick link to it watch?v=T4oO_I0p3Xk

  • @RockStarSoul

Great tune but I'm laying low with the covers as Youtube is cracking down and suspending accounts for copyright matters. What part(s) are in question? I may be able to help you verbally. Thanks

  • you're one of my favorite drummers, love your sound and style, thanks for continuing to put clips on youtube!

  • man, you keep surprising me with your drum licks!!

go and ask the remaining zep members for a reunion tour with YOU behind the drums! (and then please come to Belgium... HAHA!)

  • Once again I bow to you Dan. Just some of the greatest drumming I have ever seen. Can you send me some of that water your drinking?

  • @thunderdrumass

lol, get up! Seriously, thank you so much for your support and interest!!

My water?...Lemon, hehe...I've been alcohol free for a while now, drank in the past but quickly found out I play better without booze. Thanks again!

  • This guy don't jack around.

  • Dan, again, fantastic! Thought you maxed out at the upsrtoke kick lick, never new how that was played, and you made it EASY. Going to get selfish here, if you could ever give a defined lesson on JB's snare drum part on the live version of MD, Would be highly appreciated, saw Keatings vid, but to confusing.

    Thanks, Brad

  • @brad0301

Thank you for the kind words. I know what you're talking about...I'll have to reflect with how to present this as it's kind of tricky to play.

  • @brad0301 , Whenever you can, you are right, it is a difficult snare groove, hard to wrap your mind around it!

  • ridiculus in the best way possible

  • Ridiculous in the greatest way

  • amazing sound !!!!! \m/

  • My fav drummer ever. You sir just reached above troll status.

Keep whacking that shit with those wooden thingos buddy it turns me on.

  • Sound is pretty good, drumming too!

    How about microphones?

  • @xelavie

Thanks, see my profile for complete list.

  • @GrooveDrummin

    Seen, thanks

  • The bass drum and snare sounds fantastic. Great drumming as usual. No mikes on the tom?

  • Your snare sounds amazing.

  • feel and touch are something that you can't buy or teach you either got it or you don't ... you have the total package dan...nice job!!! nice sound!!! just nice..

  • Hey there Dan ! Are you sure you're not related to Bonzo ? You sound like how he would probably play today, if he was still alive. Your new sound is much more open, although the toms are a little soft in the mix. The snare, hi-hat, cymbals and bass drum are perfect ! I wish I could master that Bonham groove as good as you ! Keep it up !!

    Alain.

  • @AlainHubert

Thank you Alain!! I'll be teaching some of this stuff once I get the tuning vids out of the way...tuning the kick is almost done at 22 min in length, just have to do the commentary.

  • man every time i view your videos, doesn't matter which one, all it takes is about 10 seconds of listening to determine how far and above my head your level of playing is at

  • hey whats up dan very sound groovin as always, soo i was plannin on makin videos just like.. well you! and i want really quality audio in my vids, and i was wondering what stuff i should buy could you make any suggestions?

  • @squeezemylever5

Get a good sound interface for your computer. If you can, get anything from M-Audio. Everytime I work with M-Audio gear I am always happy with the sound. The next thing to get are good mics. If you view my profile you'll see a list of the mics and gear I use. The audio gets recorded separate from the video and needs to be synced to the video later. I found saving as an mp4 with ACC audio achieves the best results so far.

  • Wow...

  • The groove you have going at 2:24 is simply awesome

  • @UberPiroxsFriend

Good to hear from you! Thanks

  • Solid playing and great sound! Excellent job!

  • Is this a 26" Bassdrum?

  • @Dragonwatcher2008 a massive 26x14 i think!

  • @GrooveDrummin Wow Huge :D Nice sound!

  • Nice, think you made a good purchase :D!! Nice groove (as always)
