  • This is good. nandyan me rin. sa Clinic na yan.sa may speaker side. i believe ikaw yata yung guy na nag rerecord sa harapan. na sinabihan ni Nuno na " you're enjoying with that thing" ayos clinic na yun

  • Dahm lousy video quality just screams and noice :(

  • what kind of delay he use??????????????????

  • His fingers need a speeding ticket. LOL! That's crazy. :)

  • Look, people - if you had bothered to listen to the Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky-Korsakov you would realize that it is a COMPLETELY different piece of music. Listen. With your ears. And shut yer yaps.

  • awesome guitar player, my fave band(extreme) but nuno did NOT compose this...its based on a classical piece"flight of the bumblebee" written by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (nuno does this song very proud btw...lol)

  • hes using a delay right there, nuno is always awesome! from extreme to rihana to whatever...he will always be a guitar hero, 1 of the best!

  • *blank stare*

  • DAMN I'TS FAST!

  • kepuckd, after what u said I can only think that your knowledge about music is zero. Those songs are completly diferent (just check out the tabs if your ears can't detect the diference).I admit if you say inspired by, but Nuno's song is diferent.Nuno is an impressive guitar player technically(u have many more songs as an example)and more meaningful than that he plays with soul, rithym, the funkiest out there, all around player.Above that is one of the humblest, just lives for music like few live

  • @ZeChiko I love Nuno Bettencourt. LOVE him. I think he is a phenomenal player. I'm not dissing him as a musician. I was talking about a small technicality, in a post - LOADS of people play their own version of a popular song/orchestration. My comment was about someone using the word compose/composition and I was saying that Nuno didn't compose that. I sing, whether I'm good or not matters not but, if I should add a few grace notes, breaks, etc I am not also a composer. I love Nuno, no doubt.

  • @ markdeaton YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ihave been saying that forever! try coming out with something that shocks the world all by yourself lol

  • Do you think Nuno could beat Anderson Silva? How about GSP? :))

  • I have always thought Nuno was overrated. I guess it is just my opinion though.

  • justfine77777: Just out of curiosity, who do you consider not to be overrated? If you think Nuno was overrated, I'd like to know by what standard and why you think he's overrated. Just curious, that's all. =)

  • Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Eddie Van Halen, Jennifer Batten, Bob Zabek, Dwayne Allman, George Lynch to name a few. I am not saying the guy can't play guitar or anything, but I have never seen him do anything to really impress me. I just think he is far from a guitar god, and he is all over the guitar magazines. I messed around with the Washburn N4 the other day, and I thought is was overpriced and overrated. :)

  • gilbert, satriani and lynch are overrated. i love them but I can honestly say they are some of the most overrated players out there. Nuno in my opinion is one of the most underrated players

  • Lynch? Come on now.

  • lynch is a great player but is still overrated compared to a lot of other guitar players

  • That is why these are all opinions. I have mine, and you have yours. Also, these people names are all kind of guitar player's "guitar players". Check out Lynch at the 2009 Namm show. He has evolved over the years. I am just not a big Nuno fan. I am not saying he is bad, but nothing he does tickles me with a feather.

  • no i know. i keep up with lynch religiously. he is one of my favorite guitar players but i still think hes overrated haha :D. I even have his signature model

  • I think he's absurdely underrated, actually.

  • It is obvious he has a bunch of fans. I just don't think he is a good guitar player. May be I will see something that will change my mind someday.

  • I doubt you will. Nuno is regarded as a great guitarist because of his take on playing the guitar (e.g. his blending of percussive, rhythmic playing), and it's unlikely that you will ever be won over if you aren't already. Personally, I think you're crazy - he's incredible. :)

  • @justfine77777 lolol.... You don't think he's a good player??? wow. I've never heard anyone say that about Nuno. Who do you think is a good player, Kurt Cobain???

  • Kurt Cobain did what he did. Pretty prolific songwriter, but not a guitar wizard. I like different players for different reasons, but Nuno has never done a single thing to impress me, but may be some of the people that impress me would not impress you. Lynch, Van Halen, Slash, Gibbons, Morello, Gilbert.

  • @justfine77777 I'm a guitar player. And as a guitar player I like pretty much everybody you mentioned (not so much Morello. Skilled, but I don't care for his songs) Maybe that's why you don't like Nuno, you just don't like his songs. But his mastery of the instrument cannot be denied.

  • I like a lot of people, and some people I just don't care for, but the amazing thing is that we had this debate without bringing anyones Mother into it.....:)) What axes do you play? I have a 79 Les Paul that I never play, a Taylor 714ce that I love, an Ibanez PGM301I could take it or leave it, and I have an Ibanez RG550 in the roadflare red. I love that guitar. I would have paid $5000 for it if I would have known how much I would have liked it. The neck on it is amazing.

  • @justfine77777 On my youtube page you can see me playing my '91 Les Paul with EMGs. Just a little noodling. I also have an '01 LP Custom alpine white, a '93 or so LP classic with a tea burst finish, an '03 LP flame top, and an '81 tobacco burst LP with all original hardware and electronics. Also a Peavey Wolfgang I bought back in 2000, and a Washburn acoustic. I have a Marshall TSL and a Peavey 120 watt 3 channel combo. I don't run rack effects, but have a pretty good array of pedals.

  • @justfine77777 2) I prefer to get my tone from my fingers, guitar and amp. The TSL does run pretty high gain, but not stupid high where it kills the tone of the guitar, like so many people do nowadays. I love my pedals though. Use them mostly for a little color on leads and such. I have a Boss noise gate. boss tuner pedal, Boss limiter, Boss compression, Ibanez chorus/flanger, Boss EQ, Ibanez delay/reverb, MXR phase 90, and a Tech 9 wah. All mounted to my Furhman pedal board.

  • @justfine77777 I also have a Boss distortion pedal (though I don't really need it) that I sometimes mount to my board. My TSL is 3 channels, but once in a while I'll kick on the clean channel and use the Boss distortion for a different sound. I've got this narly little Danelectro talk box too, but can't use it live because it's too noisy. Not a real talk box, just a pedal. But it has the tube and mike. I can record with it straight, but it whistles like a bitch running through an amp.

  • I hear ya on not a lot of effects. I have a Dime wah, and I don't use it often. I have a Peavey Valve King, and it is okay I guess. I play on Tuesday night with some guys, and I use a Line6 amp that happens to be there all the time. I have really wanted to buy a nice high end tube amp, but I have not found anything I really like. I thought I would like that Boogie Mark 4, but I could not get any sounds out of it I really liked. I thought the same about the Kranks. No luck there either.

  • @justfine77777 lol. u must be picky. Those are some good amps. But I gotta say after my TSL all other amps have paled to me. Maybe it's a mental thing. maybe all I see is the big white Marshall logo. Or maybe the amp's just that good. What kind of music do you play? I did play an amp a few months ago that made my dick pretty hard. The name started with a B. (wasn't a Bogner) Let me know the type music you play, I'll look up that amp. Then maybe you can go try one out.

  • It all begins and ends with Eddie for me, but I like a lot of music. Metallica, Dime, anything Slash, STP, Radiohead. I like anything. I wanted to do a Cher song with the guys I play with, but I got overruled. I played one of those Diezel amps, and I thought it was awful. May be it was the player. :)) I tend to like a really high gain sound. White Zombie Lasexercisto had great guitar sound, Pantera CFH, ect...

  • I am going to buy a handful of effects after the new year. I am thinking of picking up the Digitech Whammy, a digital delay, a distortion of some kind, a phaser, and a flanger. I think picking up some new stuff sometimes can bring you out of a rut with your playing, if that makes sense?

  • @justfine77777 The name of the amp I played was a Bugera. It was an all tube 120watt powerhouse. The good thing, unlike my Marshall, it only sold for around $800. You could probably do even better. But I would definitely say, even though it doesn't have the big name like a Marshall or Laney or Hiwatt, don't pass it by without trying it out. If I needed a new amp, honestly that would be the way to go. I hear the new 5150s are pretty mean too.

  • Ya, I would like to play a 5150. I think it was a VHT Pitbull I played years ago that was phenominal sounding to me at the time.

  • @justfine77777 I found it!!!! Do a search on Bugera 333. That's one bad ass amp. 3 channels, 120 watts. And on top of that it's sexy as hell. If that doesn't get your dick hard when you play it you need another hobby!!!! lolol.....

  • Seems like a really sweet amp. I have a buddy in Galesburg, Il that sells them. I may give him a call about them.

  • absofuckinglutely Nuno is great man

  • Why do people always freak out and treat someone like they're a guitar god when someone starts doing run-of-the-mill two-hand tapping?

  • i agree, tapping is cool but not as hard as it looks.

  • the guitar has has a delay effect, so what? the sound is still awesome! and yeah it's a version of the original song composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

    Kudos to Nuno!

  • isnt this orginally by a classical composer

  • how does he do that badass picking?!

  • he has a delay on about 225ms so you hear each of his strokes twice. The trick is more about timing then picking.

  • yay, I learned this song without knowing about that :D it is possible to play it without the delay

...but of course it won't sound that clear

  • im sorry... does he play it with the Delay ???

  • yes he does!

  • yap

  • no...

  • beast picking techinque!!!!

  • it's with delay...

  • *Seizures* I would give my left testicle to be able to play as well as Nuno.... *sigh* Back to practicing.

  • Easy to play, hard to play...blah blah blah. Let's see you COMPOSE something like this. I see tons of people playing other people's music on this site but I hardly EVER see any originality.

  • Well said. I can't stand it when people say' This is easy/this is hard...then come up with something better then!

  • @markdeaton Only problem is Nuno didn't compose this, he just tweaked it to make it his won. "Flight of the Bumblebee" is an orchestral interlude written by Nikolai Rimsky- Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan, composed in 1899–1900. Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee is an only slightly different interpretation.

  • No He composed it. Just because its called flight of the wounded bumblebee doesnt mean he just tweaked flight of the bumblebee. They sound quite different if you had listened to them both,.

  • @markdeaton He is covering too.

  • @markdeaton Yeah man, let's see if I or anyone, like you or me, can do Either of these things instead of bringin Universe down with the quadrosphere's 'typed-in, negative junk-thoughts".....

  • i'll be that good when I grow up.....oh shit, too late:o)

  • All hail Portuguese people

  • his fingers were in fire...so hot!!

  • Oh, btw, Nuno plays it, but Dweezil Zappa wrote it.

  • its acually harder to play with delay he even says it himself and not like you could do it anyhoo

  • Not so much 'harder' but more the fact that if you make a mistake with delay on its harder to get yourself back in position with the rythm

  • Nuno himself has referred to this as a goof-off, showoff piece, so your criticism isn't exactly a new insight. But maybe (just maybe) his fans like him because of more than just one playful track. You really come across here like someone who wants to be thought highly of, not sure if that's accurate.

Oh and Paul Gilbert is a terrible man.

  • your are stupid bud, really are.

  • This is great, its not amazing hard to play but its cool, technically others prolly better but at guitar wars nuno out played PG. Nunos not big headed he wouldnt say he was god like. plus you do something this cool before you spout crap

  • andy timmons is a guitar god and your still full of shit

  • you're ok man

  • he uses a delay. he cannot play it for real and this sounds like crap. if you would learn how to pick properly it woulnt sound so bad.

  • Tb0ne, that's not a tremelo. That's a delay. He's basically ping ponging the notes. That means that before the first note repeates, he plays a second note. So, it's like this: first note, the second note, then the delay/echo of the first note etc etc. That's how you get the sound for Bumblebee. If you play the guitar, try it. set the delay kind of slow, with only 1 repeat. Before the first note repeats, play another note. It's pretty cool, once you get the groove.

    peace

  • Thanks for the heads up man. Going to try that. Delay is still a mystery to me sometimes. Cheers

  • poor bumblebee. Its wounded.

  • wow amazing

i can't believe is he playng...

for me is the cd's record :P

    wow!

  • lol well hes not completely playing this... hes using the tremolo effect.

  • Nuno = Chopin

  • you meant they are the same person? I dont think so otherwise Chopin woudl be really old by now.

  • and i guess your boyfriend.. eh i mean mentor could play this perfect?? i think not my friend, ok so he hits a few wrong notes... still a great display of pure skill

  • my mentor watched this live,

hes the guy with the white t shirt at 52 secs

he said that nuno was sloppy on that set

  • I'm sorry, but who is your mentor to criticize Nuno? No musician is going to play any solo the exact same way twice. Nuno is a virtuoso with more God given talent than most people will ever even be able to hope for. And for your information, I read an article about this clinic recently that stated that Nuno was not feeling well that day, so you'll have to forgive him for being a little sloppy. At least he showed up and gave his performance. Many people would have cancelled due to illness.

  • Doesn't matter how well your instructor can play.. 1) Nuno wrote it. 2)Your 'mentor' went to see Nuno, Nuno didn't go to see your 'mentor'.. =)

  • Nuno wrote it? perhaps because he would break his fingers on playing the real "bumblebee flight".

  • this isnt that hard, its delay plus precise picking. not easy, but not hard either.

  • No.

    Women.

    Aloud.

  • your gay. i bet thats nothing new on the block either! HAHAHAHAHA

  • i cant play with the guitar so damn low it heart my wrist....but is so cool =)

  • dont forget it, eddies got more style and dynamic. people tend to give that shit up when they play too fast. i think its sweet too but eddie is still the shit

  • classic case of student overtaking master?

  • better than buckethead !

  • Buckethead is fast, but he's not as fast as MAB. MAB does not have much feeling. All raw speed. Then you put in some soul and you get Lukather. He's crazy fast with soul and depth. Then you add a pinch of innovation and you get Satch. Then you add a little Zappa to the mix and you get Vai. Vai is as fast as any guiatrist I have ever seen. Vai twists it up a little bit and throws it back at you full force at times (The Attitude song), then with sublty (For The Love Of God).

  • haha

butckethead is AT LEAST A LEAGUE BELOW NUNO, I REALLY dont like any of his songs, i've listened to the jordan one and I felt sick, I didnt see any good feeling in his playing and the atmosphere of the song was bah.LOUSY riff at the beginning I wouldn't make a song out of it even if you'd pay me, and I HATE his exaggerated tapping it sounds like wierd screeching.

Nuno has it ALL, speed(not the fastest at all) , feeling, creativity, good rythm playing , he's got EVERYTHING a guitarist needs.

  • i think buckethead can really play with feeling, go listen to WHITEWASH

    anyway

cominh back to the topic, i prefer nuno when he plays in a more funky way, just like with Population 1/Dramagods, its really tasty

  • BTW, I love Nuno, but who the hell plays a friggin POS Washburn these days?

  • If somebody paid me enough, I would. ;D Besides, his N4s aren't off the shelf models. Washburn can actually make a very nice instrument when they want to. ;D

  • would like to see him and steve vai and dimebag go at it.

  • i agree that vai and nuno are very similar players... but...dimebag is dead??

  • screw vai. get satriani

  • nope. u got it backwords. satriani taught vai and kirk hammett

  • In 1974, Satriani studied music with jazz guitarist Billy Bauer and with reclusive jazz pianist Lennie Tristano. The technically demanding Tristano greatly influenced Satriani's playing. Satriani also began teaching guitar, with his most notable student at the time being fellow Long Island native Steve Vai.

In 1978 Satriani moved to Berkeley, California to pursue a music career. Not long after his arrival he resumed teaching. His most notable California students included Kirk Hammett

  • oh shit my b...coulda fooled me any day...vai is such a showmen although satch I think may be a better writer

  • lol. it's all good.

  • um satriani taught vai

  • I know, I was just sayin' maybe in guitar heaven lol!

  • the mans a genius and the fact hes playing this still as well in 2005 shows he's still got it come on nuno give us a guitar instrumental album full of all the most pretentious shredding the world has ever heard and then just let all the jealous idiots just dream

  • Agree with you 100%. Nuno's the best shredder with the most sophisticated rhythm melody you could imagine. His sounds are a legend.

  • John fucking Petrucci

  • It's not stolen but "Flight of the Bumble Bee" is a real song, so it's a modified version I guess, and there is no way it's easy just listen to it!. Also he uses echoing when he plays.

  • nuno is so much more than that... he is just showing off here.. this guy is very versatile.

  • I'm sure that it is simple arpeggios or chromatics.

  • hah well im sure that this is not simple...

  • So if it isn't simple than are you saying Nuno Stole it?

  • I'm sure it's simple- just not easy.

  • ooo somebody's bein jealous!

  • Amazing use of Delay.

I don't think Nuno would steal but at 0:15 it sounds like something from Randy Rhoads Laughing gas' guitar solo at the end of Suicide Solution.

  • this is at a guitar clinic..

  • Nuno is FLAWLESS, as always.

  • i was there, yes!!! nuno had a priveleged of using my pick in his last song. =)

yes, it's not the music, don't care.

  • ...he came here and I didn't know about it? GOD DAMMIT!!!!!

  • I used 2 try & play this many years ago, it is such a clever piece of composition, didn't realise until now it is a response to Rimsky-Korsakov's original Flight of the Bumblebee.. Excellent :)

  • i cnt believe i missed this.Darn it!

  • Nuno kicks ´ass......

    He´s a guitar god

  • he could be one of the GH4 bosses( p.s. nice screen name, fits this vid

  • The piece shown here is the "intro" to He Man Woman Hater, not The Bumblebee has landed, which is on "Guitars That Rule The World. Just sayin'.

  • not spanish fly

  • Youtube almost never does.

  • thats not true, is it??????????

  • Yep... New Album and World Tour Planned !!

    :D

  • awesome!!!!!! i really only like play with me, and kinda this song now, but it will be lots better now

  • Yeppers - can't wait!!!! :D :D :D :D

  • Skunkyfunk, I think I saw you filming this. Was there [left most part of the stage]. If I'm not mistaken, you were using an O2 and Nuno saw you filming him. Did I get it right? Or was that a different person. That place was packed and we waited for almost two hours outside.

  • If he plays ONE wrong note, either the melodic line will get messed up as it repeats later, or the harmony will be akward as the wrong note is repeated above an otherwise correct note.

This piece is brilliant, and demonstrates masterful composition, technique, and execution.

    Chris

    H. Mus.

  • do you know what his delay settings are?

  • The notes are not a carbon copy of the album version. Not that they need to be.

  • THEN.... he starts playing 16th notes. Each note, still delayed 3 16th notes ahead, provides a harmony note for the note that comes 3 16ths later!

If his playing is note *absolutely precise* the whole thing falls apart. If his timing is off, the delay and drum machine will still go according to the programmed rate and it will be a mess. ...cont'd

  • In the first part, he's just playing eighth notes.

Then the delay kicks in... at that point, the math works out perfectly.... each note being delayed by a precise amount (3/16ths) provides the illusion of him playing 16th notes. Of course, planning goes a long way to ensure melodic fluency and consistency. ...con't

  • He's NOT just wanking at a million miles an hour. The drum machine is to keep time, as the tempo is *very* precise. The delay setting is also *very* precise. The drum machine and digital delay are midi-ed together so that they are in perfect sync - you know... so long as the player is in perfect sync.

    cont'd

  • This is not, afaik, the same "Flight of the Bumblebee" as composed by Rimsky-Korsakov. It is composed in the spirit of that composition, hence, the altered title 'wounded bumblebee.'

The brilliance of this piece is in the planning. cont'd

  • the only people who cut down fast, accurate players are people who can't play fast themselves.

  • ... or people who actually want to have fun, or dance, or relax etc. etc. Not everyone enjoys

trhius, but I respect those who do, and

I respect those who can play like this.

We each have our favourite playing styles.

  • how much nuno have you heard?

  • now u consider people playing fast are producing aweful music.... well, Nuno is not about speed, he's technique, major guitarist and many bands are considering as one of the best in this era.... why don't try listning to his slow music, or search for :

    midnight express - nuno bettencourt

BTW, many of parts of his musical works are in the books for studying....

  • Barndizzle!!! you stupid stupid girl...

  • your just an idiot check his other stuff out fucking a.

  • Why do people think that if you play a bunch of notes really fast that it's good? This is awful music. Really, really awful music.

  • First of all, thats a classical solo. it was done on piano. he did an awsome job at it. dont make stupid comments saying people who play fast are horrible if you would never EVER think of something up like that.

  • O.O

  • i met him that day.. and aside from being a great guitarist, he is so fine (drool) anyways he is nice, very humble down to earth.. and very funny(good adlibs while he was doing the "clinic" lol). :]

  • Sweet Jesus....

  • 3 words: Nuno...kicks...ass!!! no doubt about it. man, I wish Extreme was still together, partly because of Nunos guitar playing. it's so disappointing how he was (and still kind of is) so underrated. it was mostly due to the fact that extreme was largely underrated. but man, its true when they say that Extreme is the best band no one has ever heard of.

  • Not because of this performance or piece but yea..I agree..Nuno is probably the most underrated guitarists out there for being such a master. I guess that's what you get for joining a buttrock band like Extreme...lol Him and Paul guilbert should of teamed up and bagged the porn rock.

  • Check out Fernando Miyata's videos.

  • Nuno is the best Guitarist period.~Bobbi~

  • Nuno is SO underrated. His technique is flawless, and he just plain kicks ass.

  • I agree. He was on par with Lynch and Van Halen as far as guys who could shred their asses off and still put feeling and melody into a solo.

  • soundtrack to your first prison sex rape

  • My farts sound better than this.

  • Be sure to post your high-quality, low-compression video!

  • Does anyone know where you can get the little drum machine back track thing?

  • Just make it yourself. I'm sure it could be crudely spliced together in a software sequencer.

  • thanks for posting this.

  • Nuno es un gran guitarrista, genial tecnica y creatividad.

concuerdo con moglijp. los que quieren velocidad sigan escuchando michael angelo, a ver si encuentran que sea superior musicalemente.

  • It's not boring. I can play almost this fast without delay, but so can he.

  • Hamwinkie(nice name) Maybe not pleasing to your ear but I suspect you're in the minority here. Even if you don't find it pleasing you sure as shit have to appreciate the technical ingenuity and skill behind this piece. Or maybe you're just insanely jealous because you could never come remotely close to being this talented and well regarded by the guitar community.

  • right on!
