  • Glad to see the RAM is in fact upgradable and not soldered to the board (like half the Acer Aspire One ZG5's RAM...) I'm in the progress of replacing the screen in one and figured I'd throw in some extra memory while it's apart. These things were not deigned for upgrading, that is for sure!

  • Thanks bro :)

  • Wow, thanks man. Great video :)

  • This was a very helpful video. You can do other things, to like change the hard drive. I want folks to learn from my misfortune. If you will be disconnecting any other ribbons or cables to do anything else. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. Right in the middle of reconnect my ribbons, my fan kicked on and then ZAP! Puff of smoke! I'm a little angry at myself for not thinking of that first, but afterward, it was like: duh! Others have written about this below, but it bears repeating.

  • I can DIY assemble a PC, but havng watch the video I think I will get the service of a computer repair technican if I want to upgrade the RAM and change the HDD of my eeePC 1008HA to a SSD. The process involve virtually tearing apart the entire netbook and I consider the risk is too high for an amateur.

  • Part 3 - Thanks for the instructions as they were very helpful dude! Oh and to the user who says it isn't fast enough for Vista.. I'm running Windows 7 with no issue on 2GB. Vista in the last service pack was a lot better as well (from experience on my Wife's Dell laptop).

  • A few warnings for other DIU'ers out there. 1) Be careful when you unclip the keyboard. I managed to jam 2 of the 4 clips in permanently. 2) Be careful with the white bus clips. I managed to crack off the touchpad white support. I gerryrigged a plastic tab from the ram casing of all things to force the ribbon cable down. 3) When prying the the casing to get the DC power unit out to flip the board, don't pry on the thin part above the USB/VGA hatch. Pry from the back. System is fast!

  • Well, I did the upgrade with a 2GB module following your instructions. I would consider myself to be an advanced tech geek, but you were right for the 'not for the faint of heart'. Man, I've tore up Ipods, several laptops, pcs, electronics etc.. but this one almost got me. Just a testament to how well built they are. Pt1

  • VERY IMPORTANT. You must cut power to the motherboard before disconnecting any cables or you will "brick" the motherboard. New one is $200 from ASUS

Once the keyboard is removed, look for a tiny switch on the left side, about midway up. Power switch is visible thru the "L" shaped cut out in the metal plate. Just slide the white "handle" with a pointed tool and you're good to continue. Don't forget to turn on the switch before you reinstall the keyboard.

  • @balticbeau ok.. need a new motherboard -.-

  • Thanks a lot for this video.

I did the upgrade last night, it all went smoothly.

I turned off the battery with the "SW2" switch under the keyboard first,

and used blu-tack to replace the screws, which were a bit fiddly.

    Thanks again.

  • Well just followed this, but for some reason the netbook just WONT turn on, tried to put the old ram back in as well but no luck think by trying this I just killed my machine just cant see why the power button wont work.

  • @MGinx just because the guy didn´t tell about to switch off the battery.. i done the same fault.. had my eee 25 mins working :/

  • Does any one know how to tighten the tilt of the eeepc 1008ha screen or to more securely fasten the screen connector to the base unit? I've had my eeepc for over 1year and so I don't have warranty any more. I've considered sending it back to eeepc but I suspect that it will be super expensive to repair a relatively easy problem. Thanks!

  • @jamestervid Hope you find an answer, I have the same problem, very lose already and it's only been a short time. Really unfortunate.

  • Thank you for the tutorila, I did it! :) It was just going as it should! EEE@2GB :D

  • Thanks for the guide.

It took me forever and I wouldn't have been able to change the RAM without this!

  • I just upgraded my 1008HA aswell to 2GB ram. Everything went smooth but same as you i had to tear the warranty seal :-/ .

Thanks a lot for this video, without this video don't think i would ever be able to do it.

Btw, the card tip was awesome!

  • @QueTzaLiin I am glad, it was useful.

  • can be upgrade vista? let me know

  • @thegoodbyeheaven do you mean the netbook with Vista OS? anyway, upgrade has nothing to do with OS

  • @thegoodbyeheaven if Your gonna upgrade o.s (operating System ) DO NOT GRADE TO VISA . either stay with xp or Upgrade to windows 7 32 bit . ITs the best for the your eee pc

  • @thegoodbyeheaven It's not very well to upgrade the 1008HA Xp in Vista.

Vista is too heavy for such a machine.

  • Beautiful! BRAWO!

  • DAMN! All that just to upgrade the ram? Couldn't they just put a little door with a screw like all the other Eee PC's? So many poor people void their warranty and fry their mobo's just because of this stupid design.

  • @LilJohn148 it's not a stupid design... it's design is so compressed that the engineers don't care if you can pull out the ram easily or not. btw they want you to get it done by their service guys for money ;)

  • muy util, solucione mi problema con el touchpad !

    Thank you very much!

  • just wondering and a computer shop ugrade the ram for me? cause theyre pros lol

  • Took approx. 45 minutes to complete the full replacement. My advice to a newbies, after when you replace the ram, don't rush to assemble your computer back, just fist back your displaced motherboard, connect fan, video card, and battery to it, then just check if everything ok, switching it on, if it works and runs smoothly, switch it of again just by holding the button as you all now.

  • Advice 2: don't push too hard these 4 pins on the top of the keyboard, as they can be damaged. Be carefull with kbd

  • IDEA just remove the vent on the underside since the ram module is right over the vent dremal tool would make light work of this job for some of us. A little epoxy and the piece you've cut is replaced. I'm a dremal wiz so perhaps it's just workable for a few of us.

  • Screw that I'm getting the 1005 just made up my mind shitznel

  • oh god the horror! maybe i should just get a 1005

  • Thanks! Patience is a virtue. Take care after screws are out not to overstress the a screen hinge while pushing back on screen. I did put a screw through a cable during reassembly and had to solder 5 fine wires back together. Also, I bumped the trackpad off button and wasted time taking the laptop apart again before I realized that I could turn it back on with the surface switch. I also upgraded to Win7 and like it a lot. This laptop is now available with Win7 and 2GB ram, by the way.

  • just upgraded my 1008HA to 2GB 800mHz RAM (Patriot) with no problems whatsoever. Took me about 30 mins and i did switch off the battery before disconnecting.

  • If you don't want to take apart the netbook just to upgrade ram, why not buy an asus 1005ha!?

  • HA weights 13% more and is not as small maybe?

  • It is really great that you guys make this video - thanks for that.

But I really don't recommend that anyone without proper knowledge do this at home!!!! My computer cannot start because I've put in 2GB RAM - I simply doesn't do a thing when I push the startbutton, and I follow every step very neat. It is really sad - so DON'T DO THIS AT HOME!!!

  • This is insane! The Ram module is right under the back panel! If are a simples dor there, We should upgrade the ram with any difficulty.

Of corse, great video and help.

  • omg they should just make a door to the ram seriously, it's right under the back panel for God's sake!!

  • Do you really need over 2 minutes to show how to change the ram

  • Muito bom!! Os brasileiros agradecem! Poderia ter mais 1 slot.. pra deixar com 3 gb! ;)

  • Thanks for sharing these efforts with the world. It gives a good sense of what the job involves. Disassembly looks a lot like when I installed a dual band Wireless-N WLAN card in a 900. Keyboard out, break sticker, split case, etc all look familiar.

I would not have gone trough all this for the sake of RAM alone.

Replacing the SATA drive with SSD or faster drive would be on my list.

  • Thank you for the effort. I followed through and it worked. Except,

    1) at 1:55, the keyboard connector requires the "sliding up and down" of the black mini tabs

    2) at 4:30, the tiny cable between the mainboard and the metal plate requires "lifting up and down" of the WHITE mini connector

Changing the HDD is simply pulling out the HDD with a silicon black jacket. Be careful not to break the SATA connector when you push it back in.

  • Thanks a lot for this vid. I don't see the HDD. I'm thinking to change this against a SSD. When you open the 1008HA, do you see the size of the hdd ? Is it 2"5 ?

Of course, if I manage to change this, it will exist a vid.

    Merci encore de la France

  • Other than partially broken english, it seems like you did a good job.

    Cool video.

  • Does anyone know if the 1005HA has upgrade memory from 1 GB to 2 GB?

  • yes :) get a 2 gb ddr2 667 mhz ram. then theres an access panel on the bottom. theres only one slot so get a 2 gb stick lol

  • Thanks

  • answer the skype call

  • ha ha ... ! People just call at the wrong time!

  • thankyou, finally someone put up a vid on how to open the 1008ha up and install the ram.

  • Wating for the second one, good work.
