Tennis Backhand Lesson For Beginners

You hit the nail on the head. Starting off with a two hander is fine because kids don't have the strength on the backhand side. But the one handed backhand is so much more versatile. You can do everything with a one hander you can do with a two hander. But a two hander will never really feel comfortable at the net. They're like a fish out of water and will avoid. Federer started out with a two handed backhand, switched to a single backhand, and now, he has the complete game.

Very good lesson. It's imperative that you develope a correct movement before trying to hit the ball hard. The issue with kids playing in early years is that they always hold the racket with both hands to hit the backhand because of the lack of arm strenght and can't overcome that habit. It's not necessarly bad but for tho handed back you have to run more.

Whats wrong with the continental grip on the backhand? Thats what I use and I have a great backhand.
