I was talking with my fed ex driver at work about Atlanta and he claims Atlanta is a nice city and hears the cost of living is cheaper in Atlanta then up in Baltimore. Which is one reason I intend to move to Atlanta. I did see ATL's violent crime rank is the same as Baltimore and property crime is at 9 on a scale from 1-10 as Baltimore its at 6. So how safe do you feel Atlanta is? I would like to move to another city and wish to move somewhere safer then Baltimore.
@MrWill1985 I personally like Baltimore, I find it an interesting place for what I like to do but living there may be a different deal. Crime is bad in some places in Atlanta, like any big city, just stay away from those areas and everything will be fine. In the main parts of the city and metro area I'd say it's pretty safe overall.
I am going to visit different cities to determine where I should move to. Im sure downtown in any city is well patrolled by police but surrounding downtown in each city can be a different story. Baltimore has even gotten to a point surveillance cameras had to be installed in most inter city neighborhoods. Even downtown. But I still avoid bad neighborhoods in almost any major city.
ha! atl is a mixture of everyone from the south, north, midwest, etc..u get some drivers who will drive u into the sidewalk or barriers and others u just have got to lay on the honk to move the hell out the way for driving so slow..and then those who cant stay in their lanes!!!i love the nighttime scenery it is really pretty..video is very nice
i lived in atlanta for 3 weeks about 2 months ago and i traveled up and down peachtree street all day everday. i was staying under a marta bridge right behind the greyhound station
@papilgee4evaeva What exactly did I say that's negative about VT Fans? I made a point that they guy who was turning left from the middle lane was from out of town with VT stickers, in for a ball game (Chick Fil-a-Bowl). Geez! As if turning left from the middle lane isn't bad enough on it's own merit, the VT mention was nothing more than college FB gamesmanship, this is SEC country you know.
@papilgee4evaeva Tennessee was what 6-6? The ACC team in that game ALWAYS plays a lower ranked SEC team just to keep it fair. ACC is 2-11 in BCS games since the format started, SEC teams win championships :)
@Freewayjim Tenn was 7-5 going into that game, and #23 FSU did beat #20 SCar in this past season's CFA bowl, so... :) I'll admit that the ACC hasn't shown up in bowl games like we'd like to... hopefully that turns around soon.
hi,it seems that ALT is beautiful, but I've heared that there are some dangerous areas! I want to know them...and how they're are dangerous??! (we're from France and we're gonna internt at Georgia Tech Research Institute)
@Freewayjim Just because Philly doesn't get as much media attention as atl doesn't mean atl is better. Philly is a much larger city than atanta and it has alot to do. Everything is around the corner. Philadelphia, Boston, and Chicago are the only cities that look similar or somewhat similar to ny. LA is not all that either it is overated. I've been to all the cities you named so I can comment on it. You go by popularity. I bet you haven't set foot in philly.
@JkillaJ15 Newer cities in the south are more spread out in general. Philly has natural boundaries that Atlanta does not have and land (for whatever reason) is more expensive as is the case with all "older" northern cities. I do not go by popularity, dude, I've filmed Philly, and seen plenty of it beyond that, I like Baltimore and Pittsburgh much better than Philly. I guess a fair comment is that we probably look for different things in a city so to say one sucks and another is kind of silly.
@Freewayjim So far Ive been to 5 major Cities. Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and NY. I do plan to visit Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, as well as Columbus. And Baltimore which is the city I grew up in is the worst city Ive been to. Simply because too many panhandlers and the fact the judicial system of Baltimore is too lenient. Have you ever had to handle ATLs judicial system and if so how good of a job do they do with justice?
@MrWill1985 I've never dealt with the judicial system in Atlanta, like any big city it has it's pluses and minuses. Yes the cost of living is far more reasonable here than any other city this size. Don't move to Atlanta, move to the northern suburbs of Atlanta, big difference. (Outside I-285 and north US-78). Charlotte is similar to Atlanta, just a smaller version that is still growing but the difference is that Charlotte is a Southern City, Atlanta is an International city.
@Freewayjim I have leaned towards moving to one of the suburbs if I move to one of the 2 cities. Hopefully the northern suburbs since Im currently living north of ATL and Charlotte. I may set foot downtown occasionally like I do in Baltimore. As far as Judicial systems. I have charges against my ex in Baltimore after she stole money out of my bank account without permission and she is being let off if she pays it back and this was her third theft she commit according to her background.
Peachtree Street is basically the Broadway of Atlanta. Freewayjim, I'd like your opinion, former Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin unveiled a $1 billion, 20-year plan to transform Peachtree Street with streetscape upgrades, public parks, buried utilities and the addition of a streetcar. Are you looking forward to Peachtree Street becoming a tourist mecca?
Also about using the crosswalk, I agree. Not a lot of people know right of way laws in Georgia. But drivers can't just strike the pedestrian. :)

@pimpsquad27: Yes, I may eventually shoot the downtown/Buckhead streets at night. The Neighborhoods are not lit well enough for that, and really I would not be interested in that anyway.
I do have a video of the ATL downtown freeways at night posted.
@Freewayjim maybe I shouldn't have used the term neighborhoods, but I was referring to placing like atlantic station, the lindbergh area and such. as well as downtown, midtown , and buckhead.
OMG...this city is so different now? I haven't visited Atlanta in almost 10 years wow, shoot the only think vaguely familiar is the Bank of America Plaza. WOW!
Never mind, I did some quickie internet research and found it was the Medical Arts Building. The website Emporis has a good page on the history of that building, and sadder that both it hasn't been used since 1995 and is the only high-rise near downtown to be abandoned.

It's so interesting(and almost floors me) to me that Olympic torch decoration at 4:46 is still there, even a decade and a half after it was first placed to market the coming of the 1996 Olympics to Atlanta. Totally doesn't surprise me to see it's now being used as a billboard for of all things, Chick-Fil-A!
Also looks like jaywalkers there are as annoyingly aggressive as many I see in Chicago. Your pics of poor ones were good, as someone who is very careful before ever doing that myself!
