P0rtal is one of the best games of all time, i would give it a ten, because of the genius writing, and the shear amount of Easter eggs in the game

Sitting next to it on the shelf was Portal for 10 bucks. The Orange Box has way better value.

You know, Portal may be an allegory for the Half Life series itself, and possibly may be a cryptic spoiler. Basically, Gordon is in a series of "tests", and once he has been used to his fullest abilities, G-Man will try to kill him. Then, Gordon will somehow escape and get behind the scenes (?), and eventually he will face off against the true boss: the true form of G-Man.

It's not connected. Yet.

Aperture Science (the company in Portal) is mentioned in the last episode of Half-Life as being a rival to Black Mesa (the company in Half-Life). Supposedly HL2:Episode 3 will involve Aperture Science.

That said, there's not huge plot in Portal. You do not have to play Half-Life to understand it.

Aperture Science was/is a direct rival to Black Mesa - The character you play in Portal shares no relevance so far to the story in the HL series. Ep 3 will definitely shed more light.

Portal is the best game ever made, at least in my opinion. I just love it, it's the only game where the humor and the story actually work well for me, and it is obviously very original too.

I completely agree. Everything Portal does, it does perfectly. The method of storytelling is completely believable, and I love the game's dark humor. It's somewhat short, but it's got tremendous replay value and the level design is awesome.
