aha is my favourite band and morten enormous pop singer, but unfortunetly, his voice is not as good at it was before, just like in this song we can notice it!!!
I love A-HA & especially Morten, but I will not disagree with you that his voice has changed to a degree in the last few years. However, having said that, Morten at his worst is better than MOST singers at their best. But, I still feel that he gave a very beauiful & strong performance at this concert.
With the kind of exceptional voice that Morten has, 25+ yrs. in this business, vocal cord surgery & the kind of music & busy concert schedule he has, I'm surprised it hasn't taken a toll sooner.
look it is also a great deal to keep his voice at the best specially in pop music, but here his voice has changed a lot , I am a hudge fan of aha and morten, but if somehow one day you hear the voice of roy orbisson at his old age, his voice is intact!!
The only bad thing about mortens voice is that it is a fragile voice , other then this it is perfect
I have seveal 45's & cds of Roy Orbison & yes his beautiful mostly tenor voice was intact until the end. However, he NEVER toured like Morten & he had a major break in his career where he didn't record or perform nor did he have surgery on his vocal cords like Morten, thus preserving his voice. Morten on the other hand, has a falsetto & a 5 octave range from base to high tenor which is very rare in a male singer. His voice fagile, maybe, but I do know that surgery & major touring is not good.
I think of Julie Andrews & what surgery did to her voice. It changed Morten's voice slightly, then you add the touring on top of that, singing when you are sick (sore throats & colds), singing outside in bad weather conditions (very cold or very hot & dry) you will slowly reek havoc on your vocal cords, ask Barry Gibb of the Bee Gee's & I also speak from personal experience. WE wanted to see him perform live & it has cost him. I rejoyce in the VOCAL MAGIC he has given us for so many years!
I completly agree with you, that cold and hot weather affect someones voice and major touring also, as it has affected also freddy mercury's voice.
But sorry I didn't knew that morten had a surgery on his vocal cords!!!!!!!

It reminds me of Harry nilson a great baritenor witch vocal cords had problems and after that he couldn't sing ever the high notes likes before. He lost some of his vocal range
Sorry, if I came on too strong, didn't mean too. I do know about singing, I feel the need to defend Morten in this case. He had 2 surgeries, one in '86 before their U.S.A. tour & the 2nd in the mid 90's after "Vogts Villa". Both in Wild Seed & Vogts Villa you can hear the raspiness in his voice. He still sounded great in '99, 2000 & '01. The first real change in his voice was in '03 "Lifelines" tour. Surgery, major touring, singing falsetto & other variables have not been a good mix for Morten.
Just heard A-HA's first single 'Foot Of The Mountain' from their new album. It is a beautiful song written by Magne & Morten sounds astoundingly brilliant!
Singer's can face a real dilemma regarding their voice...use it or lose it...over use it the wrong way & lose it. Then you add other variables such as surgery, singing when sick & bad weather conditions, it will take a toll. A voice is like a fine tuned instrument, it must be taken care of & used properly! Morten, sing forever songbird!

You think the radio is biased in Britain... try & hear anything new from a-ha here in the states... nothing... absolutely nothing. You are lucky if you hear TOM or one or two other older a-ha songs on the "Oldie Stations". There is no respect for a-ha here in the states. FANS... yes, radio stations, tv and concert promoters... none!
I know, the same thing here. Stupid non-talented boy groups and silly, wanna be sex-kittens who think wearing little clothing & dancing (sort of) is intertainment. Most have little singing abilities and they ALL sound alike! Now don't get me wrong... Morten is one sensual singer... but the man can't help it... it is just there! It is so frustrating over here.

@UchihaGege morten is a baritone,but he sings as a tenor,too. he´s said it. and i think it were two or three surgerys..im really impressed of how he keeps his voice..most of all because he forces it to sing like a tenor and because a-ha performances were usually and most of all in the farewell tour too close one from each other.
I agree with everything you said, I admire & respect him very much. With the rare, remarkable voice his has any change to it is noticable. Other singers with less a voice, changes will go unnoticed. He still has a beautiful voice, just a little different now. He has given us 25 years of music excellance & I look forward to 25 more years of the same. Although his voice has suffered to a certain degree to give us what we wanted, I will forever be greatful, thankful & wish him continued success.
