First saw Sad Caff on one of Tony Wilson's slots on Granada in the 70's. They were singing Black Rose - I was hooked! Went out, bought Fanx Tara, saw the band at Belle View, the Apollo and some place in Birmingham. Told all my mates and they loved 'em too.
Tony's up there with Paul now. God rest their souls. True Mancs to the end.
I love this one - Dave you are my hero for letting us see all these performances, memories flooding back and my crush on the amazing Paul still as strong, he is very much missed
That's the back of Dave Irving's head in the first 3 sec of the video. What a great, great band. Ashley Mulford on lead guitar and Vic Emerson on keys were vastly underappreciated. I'd love to see a video of Digital Daydream Blues, a real fav of mine. Many thanks to Dave and others who have posted Sad Cafe songs & performances.
dave you know none of us are going recognise you unless you,ve still got that 70,s perm .again thanks for all the videos and the website is just brilliant.any chance of a caff re union ......minus one of course sadly
Heeey Sorry - scratch the perm as well. I'm now down to the bone (as you'll see on the Buzz). The Buzz was brill and I was treated like a superstar gob bless em. Even Simon said he loved the song!!
I am indeed making every effort to get a retro version of Caff together. Very diff finding personnel.
Hi - No it was Ash on the recording but he had gone walkabout in Canada chasing after his new tart, so we did it without him. Ultimately this led to his departure.
Love it , live video during an video , nice sound , great band , thank you Dave for finding this one .............

My second fave band ever. Their first four albums are excellent. Misplaced Ideals in my top ten of all time.

If there's a Sade Café reunion, it'd be hard to fill Paul Young's shoes. Mike & the Mechanics didn't get someone to.
In rememberance of his birthday, I wanted to see what Sad Café sounded like. I've run out of Mechanics videos where he did lead.
Dave, you were in the band? What was Paul like?
