He said what he had to say to get elected. He said himself he was "influenced" by Alinsky. Prof. I'm sure you know Alinsky. It was not his "inner" goal to progess the people. Let's all face the facts so we can figure out a way to move forward and stop waiting on this man to do what he said he would do. I'm not just talking about Blacks but the working class (former?) of this nation.
I love Obama but Cornet West is a very enlightened man and I have to agree with West. I am proud of Obama being the first Black man to break this barrier but he tried too hard to please both sides. He tried so hard to be bipartisan. Politics is dirty. Obama is a great father and an intelligent man but again he is a the president, a politician and at the end of the day, politics will always be a dirty American conspiracy pool.
if i want or need Barack Obama to stand up against elite and wealthy control, then me as a person, i need to stand up myself with the man. if you want real change, then you have to show action, which means walking away from the same comfortable conditions that people have in order to move forward would be the same as Barack putting the people before the dollar. meaning going against wealth, control and the elite themselves. and consequences come with decisions like that.
The main issue is politicians are ALL paid for by the wealthy elite, receiving 'campaign donations' which amount to nothing more than bribes. When people say the big corporations have more 'buying power' than the little guys, it's not just products and services they are talking about. It's also the fundamentals of democracy itself. And it's all legal thanks to the corporate owned supreme court.
Well stated by Dr. West, but unfortunately the system is so corrupt that Obama had to be bought and paid for to win the election in the first place.
The only way we can get out of this system is by waking up the American people ourselves. There is no hero that will come and save this American empire.
If the American people don't save it themselves, it will inevitably fall just like every other empire.

There is no "I" in the word "influence". Along with your "truth", you should also bring grammar.

And at this rate sooner rather than later.

Cornel West is THE voice of American contemporary social philosophy. It is always an honor to hear him speak, and he is absolutely 100% correct.
Thank you Dr. and Brother West, and thank you DMP079 for sharing this video.
