BTW, that buzzing sound is radio wave radiation impacting your PC circuitry, most likely from text update signals eminating from your cell phone. What a pain.
Why not get a deep freezer and freeze water through the day time, then put the ice into coolers which would act as refrigerators? You would basically be using the ice as energy storage.
Great Video! I think that modern living is just a subtle form of slavery - pay your mortgage, pay your bills, be a good employee, maintain your credit score, work harder to buy more - buy, buy, buy. Those of us who want to live an "off grid" or "non-traditional" lifestyle have found a loophole in the system. Beware those who will come and try to outlaw your new found freedom citing regulations imposed by the very same system you are trying to avoid.
very cool more power to you keep on keepin on sounds like to me you are livin the life rock and roll my friend down with these utility companys they rape and rob your whole life it is my goal to get to where you are now
This all sounds great until some government busybody find out about it. Then they send out a building inspector and fine you for multiple violations. You are unable to pay the fines and fix the violations so they bulldoze your little home. Based on a true story.
my parents have solar panels, thinking of taking some and going live somewhere off the land, lol. im a computer engineer, so i know how to do it easily.
i lived in arizona in 1986 this same way ,and i thought i was the only person on the planet that lived this way but i found out there are many people that feel the same as i do , i love the way this guy thinks

@Max1Chase1 Don't RV's start from natural resources? In fact everything starts in nature. Even man-made items start from natural resources. Everything is natural.

Hi Keith, We're kindred spirits. I'm also from the Bronx, went to college in the mid-seventies and my first trip camping was with a family I met while attending the University of Vermont. I'm preparing to go off the grid as we speak (write?). May I run some questions by you from time to time as I begin my "off the grid" lifestyle?
Same thing as you crsbt. It seems in America the land is so cheap and they do not seem to have all the bloody red tape and planning regs that we have over here. It is, to say the least, frustrating to see how easy it is in principle. But over here, no, the Goverment dont like it at all. To many of us would get of the hampster wheel.
I love your idea. People in the villages of the middle east live like that. I lived your life in Iran for about 7 years. Best thing you have are the stary nights.
This is pretty awesome, the thing about U.S. (or any other large countries) is that people seem to have plenty of space to live like this if they choose to. Consider yourselves very fortunate for the possibility, as others live in small countries where land for this purpose is hard to come by.
How do you still make income for retirement and other needs when out in an isolated area living? Do you have to have the nest egg built? This is a general question and not a personal question.
This guy has the right idea. So many people are trapped in a web of debt. Debt = Slavery!! I live in the UK and have now saved enough to buy land in a good location, rural, and also enough for a LARGE quick build lodge. A log burner for heat, chickens for eggs, vegetable patch and all other basic needs and I'm happy. All the material things do not matter but the mass media and TV folks would have anyone belive that it IS all that matters... Those people are dead and have no soul.
@MrUAV100 sounds nice can i come visit? Lol but seriously you have the right idea. Sadly we have no money to just build like that, but we plan on being like gypsies and traveling allover, so we will most likely be able to save money because we won't be paying regular rent or utilities.
Hi Skeeter- I think you would really like a Kelly Kettle- gives you 2 litres of hot water by burning sticks, waste materials etc. I use mine here in the UK, and we're on-grid!
Ryan, Have you talked to Keith lately? I saw this video not long after you posted it and was wondering if we could get an update on how he's doing. If he stayed off grid or went back to the big city. Hope he continued making progress and is thriving out there.
@kevjay777 we would love to do an update post with keith. we are planning on getting out to NM again soon. so hopefully we'll be able to connect with him to see how he's going. thanks for watching!
Cool.. A lot of energy generated from solar panels is lost when you use batteries. It struck me when viewing your video about how to rely less on batteries and powering things during the night and it made me think whether elevating a fluid (without the need for using gears) during daylight and having it slowly pour down and power a simple dc generator at night might be more efficient than batteries be practically maintenance free.
@godenich that's a good idea. You could use your water holding tank as the power source as well. Maybe even put a pump on it to recirculate the water back into the holding tank so you can produce power so long as there is water in the tank.
I like his honesty. He doesn't sugar-coat it. He's living an experiment. He's living, not waiting for mainstream culture to tell him what he should want from life.
@teslacult If your in Arizona check out the duddleyville/ winkleman area. The san pedro river basin offers the largest water table in Arizona. Stop by the goat farm when yout in the area!
Skeeter I love the idea! Except for the fact the location could have been better, I'm in Arizona and along the San pedro river basin. The water table is 25' down. Most wells are only 80', and I've seen some that were dug by hand. In the desert the #1 thing you need is water! With that you can grow your own food!

It doesn't have to be homemade.
Solar panels and wind turbines are cheap online.
On Amazon
A 123-watt solar panels costs $649.95 (according to them the original price is $899.99, so you save $250.04)
A 12-Volt 400-Watt wind turbine costs $506.22 (orginal price: $799.99, you save $293.77)
So yes, the price is good (IF you are really going to use and if you know it will work for me)
