  • He is very smart guy

  • Keith...... Thank you for sharing this. I'm one of those generation x'ers about to be homless and doing trying to get ideas of how i'm going to make it. After watching your interview, i got some great ideas. very wise indeed. -will Ohio

  • LOVE IT!!! Keep Sharing the Kool-aid Antidote

    !

  • Mr Thompson, I don't get to NM very often, but I'd really like to come see your solar power setup. Do you ever have visitors?

  • BTW, that buzzing sound is radio wave radiation impacting your PC circuitry, most likely from text update signals eminating from your cell phone. What a pain.

  • good shit.

  • Nice

  • you're my idol!!!!

  • Smart guy. He's done a great job.

  • probably the best vid ive seen for a while

  • You will never be homeless either. Smart guy thanks for shating a sneek in the life of Skeeter :-)

  • this is awesome. my mom lives in loreto baja mexico, i would love to duplicate your off the grid ways there

  • Truely awesome man!!! keeping it real!!!

  • Why not get a deep freezer and freeze water through the day time, then put the ice into coolers which would act as refrigerators? You would basically be using the ice as energy storage.

  • Great Video! I think that modern living is just a subtle form of slavery - pay your mortgage, pay your bills, be a good employee, maintain your credit score, work harder to buy more - buy, buy, buy. Those of us who want to live an "off grid" or "non-traditional" lifestyle have found a loophole in the system. Beware those who will come and try to outlaw your new found freedom citing regulations imposed by the very same system you are trying to avoid.

  • u rock men...

    kep it up men....

  • I wish I had friends like you

  • very cool more power to you keep on keepin on sounds like to me you are livin the life rock and roll my friend down with these utility companys they rape and rob your whole life it is my goal to get to where you are now

  • Hmm, a guy from the bronx with a california surfer accent...interesting

  • he is a cool guy

  • I can dig this.

  • just starting a playlist of Off Grid people. Skeeter is ON it. think he should bash together a wind turbine.

  • he need's a rocket stove

  • @peckiledorf Word. He needs a rocket mass heater.

  • This all sounds great until some government busybody find out about it. Then they send out a building inspector and fine you for multiple violations. You are unable to pay the fines and fix the violations so they bulldoze your little home. Based on a true story.

  • im from newyork too!! i always wanted to know how to live like this, isnt it very difficult? thats a truely american dream

  • this guy is just amazing! He definitely is a very smart guy, but.......budweiser :/

  • This guy looks like he's in good health for around 60.

  • my parents have solar panels, thinking of taking some and going live somewhere off the land, lol. im a computer engineer, so i know how to do it easily.

  • @juki0h lol easily

  • @juki0h Thats Whats Up ♥

  • Cool dude.

  • RESPECT.

  • Greetings Skeeter,

Much respect and appreciation for doing something that many won't or can't do. Peace

  • great video live your life man!

  • i lived in arizona in 1986 this same way ,and i thought i was the only person on the planet that lived this way but i found out there are many people that feel the same as i do , i love the way this guy thinks

  • he's like a black hippy.he's got some of the same ideas that i have but he's actually making them happen,.I'm trying to do the same thing happen in the future just not in the desert.

  • @onebigkahuna69 same here i would like land in an area with more water

  • @onebigkahuna69 Yes yes...do it in the future....it's so much more nicer there than in a desert.

  • You're closing statement has truly inspired me sir. I too want to live off the grid, with just me and my xbox.

  • @claudiodz I hear ya, but I prefer playstation

  • This is just one guy doing this. Imagine if you had entire community's or town's, citys, ect.

  • great vid

  • "We're used to a high level of material comfort. I want that-I just don't want to pay for it for the rest of my life." Spoken like a true Boss!

  • Luv that hes drinking a beer and smoking while explaining his house/solar set up!

  • This is great; how 'bout an update?

  • Awesome. This is my dream too. Congrats, Skeeter.

  • You go Keith! I'm visioning something similar for my husband and I.

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • i believe the MICROWAVE was created by the nazis during ww2 to feed the soldiers......it turns your food into carcinogenic material......DO NOT use microwaves.....ever

  • this video is awesome much respect mane keep it g.

  • Great move, but for others why not used recycled RV trailers and save a tree from using so much plywood and 2x4s, Have fun and be safe

  • @Max1Chase1 trees are a very renewable resource

  • @Max1Chase1 Don't RV's start from natural resources? In fact everything starts in nature. Even man-made items start from natural resources. Everything is natural.

  • @Max1Chase1 lmao using wood is alot more eco friendly than rv trailers trust me

  • This guy has badass tactics

  • This is great! bar the fact I don't have his amount of knowledge yet to go this far. I so wish and will still strive.

  • u go, Skeeter! livin' free is the only way 2 live, otherwise it 'aint livin, it's just existin'! hold on2 ur freedom & watch ur 6, my brother. Peace!

  • extreme jealousy here

  • cool to see an off the grid guy thats not insane.

  • @Octavice I know , huh?

  • He DOES need his own show. He's great. Good Luck.

  • Awesome video! Skeeter would be a fun guy to hang out with.

  • kicking back..smoking them tweeds! what choo need to do is get a jobby job! and starting paying the man damnit!..much respect skeeter, stay off the grid and enjoy life. you can always use that disposable money to take a vacation to the big city rat race and realize you aren't missing anything.

  • Hey bro,I truly enjoyed this video.I am presently living in Long Island NY and can't wait to do the exact same thing in about 10 years. Now I know it is possible seeing your spread, nice set up.

  • i applaud you ,,fuck those money grubbers,aka,power companys.,gas companys,water companys,,all you`ll ever need mother nature gives you,,just step out the door,,it`s there !!

  • Thanks for posting! Very inspiring. I love his sense of humor! He should have his own show on TV!

  • cool!

  • Hi Keith, We're kindred spirits. I'm also from the Bronx, went to college in the mid-seventies and my first trip camping was with a family I met while attending the University of Vermont. I'm preparing to go off the grid as we speak (write?). May I run some questions by you from time to time as I begin my "off the grid" lifestyle?

  • Skeeter!! all you need now is some guns and ammo and you are set forever!, It takes some balls to do that. You da man

  • right on dude. Cheers.

  • all it takes is a little effort.

  • Nice man, off the grid dude.

  • great to see this

    i live in the uk

cheapest land within 100 mile radious £50.000 plus

no cahance for me unless i move miles

    good vid though thanks.

  • @crsbt

Same thing as you crsbt. It seems in America the land is so cheap and they do not seem to have all the bloody red tape and planning regs that we have over here. It is, to say the least, frustrating to see how easy it is in principle. But over here, no, the Goverment dont like it at all. To many of us would get of the hampster wheel.

    Stiglaa x

  • Fantastic my sort of life and my sort of guy

  • Shout out to Skeeter. Good job !

  • Rock on. I want to try off grid. I probabbly will get mostly off grid. Rock on big guy.

  • 6:23 lol

  • Skeeter is awesome!!!...

  • skeet skeet skeet

  • Update on Skeeter please!

  • WOW, Keith's the man,...an example for the rest of us!!! Thumbs up to ya RyanIsHungry and thankin' ya all for the COOL UPLOAD!! = )

  • What a great guy! I hope I wind up living near him someday. thanks keith.

  • I love this guy. I have a mancrush on him.

  • Skeeter is living the dream and hanging tough ! Had beer with him last night.

  • tis man is my inspiration may he prosper forever!!!!!

  • this man skeeter is my inspiration my he prosper forever!!!!!

  • I love the samurai sword in the background...lol. Nice. Massive respect for a NYC kid to learn and pull this off.

  • I love your idea. People in the villages of the middle east live like that. I lived your life in Iran for about 7 years. Best thing you have are the stary nights.

  • Thumbs up.

  • This is pretty awesome, the thing about U.S. (or any other large countries) is that people seem to have plenty of space to live like this if they choose to. Consider yourselves very fortunate for the possibility, as others live in small countries where land for this purpose is hard to come by.

  • Keith is the man. I would love to see an update of his place!

  • no stress no wrinkles smart man

  • out standing, this is a smart man, my hat is off to you keith !! i want to know more.

  • my kind of guy

  • How fab!

  • Would also love to see an update on Keith. He is very inspiring.

  • kudos Skeeter way to go... you should see about digging a cellar ...maybe bury a shipping container you would have naturally cooler temps

  • How do you still make income for retirement and other needs when out in an isolated area living? Do you have to have the nest egg built? This is a general question and not a personal question.

  • Very cool Skeeter. I wish I could do what you have done!!!

  • Where do you find the property to do this?

  • @davehutchinson67

    Here's a site. off-grid(dot)net

  • The way things are heading in the US more people will live off of the grid...I think it's great to be self sufficient!

  • I thought about living off the grid and you did it. Props.

  • THIS GUY IS MY HERO!!!!

  • this guy is my hero.

  • Love this. I wish I could make my own off grid home. Great job.

  • Went to college in the 70's? o_O you don't look a day over 30!...younger than that even.

  • Great video!

  • How does he get his mail and is his home listed as an address? I am asking because I am seriously considering going off the grid.

  • This guy has the right idea. So many people are trapped in a web of debt. Debt = Slavery!! I live in the UK and have now saved enough to buy land in a good location, rural, and also enough for a LARGE quick build lodge. A log burner for heat, chickens for eggs, vegetable patch and all other basic needs and I'm happy. All the material things do not matter but the mass media and TV folks would have anyone belive that it IS all that matters... Those people are dead and have no soul.

  • @MrUAV100 sounds nice can i come visit? Lol but seriously you have the right idea. Sadly we have no money to just build like that, but we plan on being like gypsies and traveling allover, so we will most likely be able to save money because we won't be paying regular rent or utilities.

  • He's smart. I'll probably do it.

  • The next survivor man!! Do it!

  • Okay...Skeeter, We love you Bro. We are trying to do a bit of the same thing in Georgia. Inspirational.

  • Good video. This day and age is tuff.. You are prepped up. You can keep beer cold ..LOL

  • Hi Skeeter- I think you would really like a Kelly Kettle- gives you 2 litres of hot water by burning sticks, waste materials etc. I use mine here in the UK, and we're on-grid!

Excwellent inspirational video, thanks. Peter UK

  • wow! I'm blown away. he's done a few things differently than I would have but wow. I like his philosophy. Is he using permaculture to grow food?

  • Do you have internet connection? Satellite internet maybe?

  • Is there a way to contact him, what an awesome idea.

  • That compost toilet is awesome, bud has one in his cabin, works awesome, and dont stink either

  • Yo Skeeter, great goin, your living basic and got the man basically off your ass. You're livin rich. I admire ya.

  • Ryan, Have you talked to Keith lately? I saw this video not long after you posted it and was wondering if we could get an update on how he's doing. If he stayed off grid or went back to the big city. Hope he continued making progress and is thriving out there.

  • @kevjay777 we would love to do an update post with keith. we are planning on getting out to NM again soon. so hopefully we'll be able to connect with him to see how he's going. thanks for watching!

  • @kevjay777

Would also love to see an update on Keith. Very inspiring.

  • @kevjay777

I really doubt he's going to survive out there for very long eating nuts, peanut butter and crackers.

    He needs some animal foods.

  • fucking PRO

  • Cool.. A lot of energy generated from solar panels is lost when you use batteries. It struck me when viewing your video about how to rely less on batteries and powering things during the night and it made me think whether elevating a fluid (without the need for using gears) during daylight and having it slowly pour down and power a simple dc generator at night might be more efficient than batteries be practically maintenance free.

  • @godenich thats not more efficient than batteries

  • @godenich that's a good idea. You could use your water holding tank as the power source as well. Maybe even put a pump on it to recirculate the water back into the holding tank so you can produce power so long as there is water in the tank.

  • @alderaforall perpetul energy machine! love it ^_^

  • Grow some veggies?

  • Ball park fig, how long do solar pannels last

  • @mrouterrim as long as they dont break from stuff falling on them they pretty much work forever.

  • Congratulations on escaping the inner-city hell holes in which most of our people have been trapped for generations. You inspire me. Thank you.

  • thats the way i want to live. Top man.

  • that dude needs a few homemade windmills.

  • @whippoorwillss

It doesn't have to be homemade.

Solar panels and wind turbines are cheap online.

    On Amazon

A 123-watt solar panels costs $649.95 (according to them the original price is $899.99, so you save $250.04)

    A 12-Volt 400-Watt wind turbine costs $506.22 (orginal price: $799.99, you save $293.77)

So yes, the price is good (IF you are really going to use and if you know it will work for me)

If you live outside the city it's a good option. But I live in The Bronx, like Keith used to

  • i heard cell phone static @ about 0:03 :D

  • I like his honesty. He doesn't sugar-coat it. He's living an experiment. He's living, not waiting for mainstream culture to tell him what he should want from life.

  • Awesme!

  • I love this.. And now I know why I like Minecraft so much.

  • Very cool. I had been planning on doing this exact same thing in Az. Very cool. Nice katana.

  • @teslacult If your in Arizona check out the duddleyville/ winkleman area. The san pedro river basin offers the largest water table in Arizona. Stop by the goat farm when yout in the area!

  • Sketter Rocks. Seriously.

  • great vid im with him i want that but i dont want to pay for it the rest of my life

  • Skeeter I love the idea! Except for the fact the location could have been better, I'm in Arizona and along the San pedro river basin. The water table is 25' down. Most wells are only 80', and I've seen some that were dug by hand. In the desert the #1 thing you need is water! With that you can grow your own food!

  • Skeeter, awesome - you really inspire me. You should be an off the grid consultant for those of us who have no clue how to start going off the grid!

  • i totally want to do this. id live this life.

  • I love that!

  • we been living like this {Dominican nRepublic} for longer than i care to say !

  • @Mirtha623 "we been living like this {Dominican nRepublic} for longer than i care to say !" - The whole "Third World" has lived their lives like him!

  • ur my kinda dude .... we think the same !

  • I love this solution for getting off the zombie madness grid: 'I want that, I just don't want to pay for it the rest of my life.' says it for all. Thank to Skeeter and the producer/director of this short film....RyanIsHungry? Thank you and continued success in showing all the 'way'.

  • go for it am right behide you

in search of raw land to set up shop myself

    freedom nothing like it

  • You still have to work, even if you are off the grid and you still have worries...

  • @pookiroo I don't have a problem with working at all. In fact, I like to work as much as possible. That doesn't mean I have to be a thoughtless consumer. I'm living very simply now & plan to get even more simple.I intend to get it down to how it was before elec. and I will do it.My worries aren't anything like they were when I was your average consumer. plus I learned debt is a 4 letter word & one should get out of it & stay out of it asap. I have very few worries actually. very few.life is good.

  • "I want that, i just don't want to pay for it the rest of my life... " ;) exactly how i feel !! haha

  • Great setup. Glad you're living your dream.

  • You've got the right idea. I'm a city boy too. but I love the country.

  • what about "property tax"....who owns the land he is living on

  • @inkey2 If they can't find ya, you don't owe shit.

  • TY TY TY

  • I'm trying to do something similar

  • Much respect to you man. You are inspiring alot of people with this

  • we all are going to start looking for a new way of life

  • Good man we should all be doing this sort of thing, i'm building my own system to get off grid using wood as fuel, check my channel and website out for info.

  • u ever heard mahatma gandhis suggestion for toilet?

  • love your setup :D :D :D

  • Very cool set up. I would suggest storing up the food supply.

  • Thats cool living off the grid, when ish hits the fan no one will be safe!!!! Economic Collapse is coming soon total Chaos!!!

  • Skeeter u r the man. Seriously! This is the deal!

  • this is so my dream. i guess im gone go get it. i love peace as much as the next guy but it's just not im the cards so FTW i good on my own...

  • Just wondering how does he support himself? I would imagine he wouldn't require much money since there's no mortgage or utilities bill..
