Scrounge your RP until you get cheaper RP costs (research). Only research things at full price if you absolutely must. You *can* max the tech tree, even if the game tells you otherwise.
@warstomper It crashes for me too on Windows 7. But I save often, so it's not really a bother to restart the program. Also, it tends to crash in my experience if you switch to the overhead view from the tactical view while a wormhole is nearby, cutting off the wormhole sound--the way around this is to zoom out until the wormhole sound fades, then switch to the overhead view.
@nl3rd2 the problem with this game was that it was boring and had to many limitations (I loved to play it myself but it has to less war and too much building things...) even if the graphics were superior and the music still is XD in the long run this very good game turned out to be not entertaining enough (for me it did but most poeple need more action)
@PitchBlackLaser In my opinion the issue was that the game was not that fast paced...it takes forever to burn planets and move around systems which is what makes it boring......I enjoy the game but it takes forever to do anything...It needed more streamlining and faster research/build times
@warstomper You can always press the "2x speed" or "4x speed" keys (which are the numbers 2 and 3 on the Numerical Keypad) to speed things up. And when you have enough of a population on a planet with the right buildings to speed up production, you can build almost anything very quickly. Research is also very fast with enough population in your empire as well.

*PSST!* Missile weapons (especially torpedoes) kill millions more planetary inhabitants than any other weapon type in this game! Use some missile cruisers and research missile technology if you want to conquer planets quickly!

They've listed the Imperium Galactica and Haegemonia series, but for some reason their website doesn't show the fact that you can pay to download a copy of the Haegemonia series at the Good Old Games website.

Great game. I preffer playing as the martian characterin the beginning (i dont waste so much of those research points!). I finishedit like... 10 times :D
Oh and i forgot, it was a really cool game unfortunally it had some harsh unit limit restrictions (i guess due to the computers at that time) and imbalances which made it less fun in multiplayer over time.
The only thing that turns me off is the fact that it is Real Time, but it has almost all the complexity of something like Master of Orion, so you probably end up in a mad frenzy trying to manage all those planets, ships, and research items late game.

@tjinga2u1 I had Haegemonia: Legions of Iron at one point beat it like 15 to 20 times and never got tired of it mostly because every out come was different. A game that was all most a decade ago its one that has the most amazing graphic detail of its time. As Tjinga2u1 said the space RTS games you play these days suck.
this was truely one of the most epic space RTS to come out.. its a shame the entire genre has gone to shit.. they should to a remake of this game and another Imperium galactica game, not what they called nexus.

@Sesshyru if you have 7 and want to play haegemonia without crashes click properties in hgm.exe and click compatibility for xp sp2 and run as administrator.that fixes the sound crash error.also there is a cool mod that you make your haege in star wars version.my opinion though is to keep the file with the original game and just make a copy wich you apply the mod in and have 2 version of haegemonia.also if you like more things just download the solon heritage,its better than Legions of Iron
That was fun. Took my time and played though the game again. I would love to see a second one with todays graphics capabilities. Maybe use some Homeworld backgrounds.
@Sesshyru It is theres just issues where it will crash randomly and things. Theres apparantly a custom patch that fixes it. I haven't tried it though. But I use win 7.

I just can say that Imperium Galactica II(it' predessessor) is still a good game-cause not graphics only makes a good game.
Tought Haegemonia got bad press- It's been told that is not as good, as excepted etc.
I dont know if thats true but today i will find it out. :)
