Kansas Thunderstorms

I grew up in Wichita and I miss Kansas thunderstorms!!! THANK YOU for posting this!!!!! Moved to Northern VA many moons ago. Here when it rains the sky just gets grey and dumps rain. Dreary! So unlike the great show nature puts on for Kansas.

Oh man, we had a good storm last week! Lightning hit a tree near my school's dining hall and knocked down a couple limbs! I'm a commuter so I didn't see it happen, but I heard about it and then yesterday it rained all day long and one of my classes got cancelled, so I sat outside one of the buildings and watched it pour for the whole hour til my next class! And just that morning, my friends and I were talking about playing in the rain, we weren't together though. :( Next time!

Amazing bolts. Its pretty rare, even in slow motion, to see the bolts go up into the sky like that. I know they all go up, but you can watch 100 other videos and not see that effect. They all look to be coming down from the cloud. It mustve been perfect conditions to see that effect so well. I wonder what them conditions are that allow our eyes to view it correctly?

i live in vancouver on the west coast, and the last actual thunderstorm we had was mid July, 2000. went for eight hours after sunset i think. i missed it though, i was in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, but I saw the lightning from that far away. i wish i lived in kansas -_-

As a matter of fact, there was a pretty wild storm last night that I took still pics of. I'm working on the video as I type this! I LOVE KANSAS WEATHER!

This is a really hot time of year, so storms are not that frequent. You'll see more action May, June, September and October. Rest of the year is not that exciting, thunderstorm wise. Although, I remember a December or January in 99 or 00 that there was a thunderstorm when it was snowing! That was quite memorable for many people that lived here then.

You'll see more lightening as you get closer to Flordia (due to humidity), but we have powerful storms due to the gulf moisture mixing with marching cold fronts that move through. BTW, don't move here just for our storms...you'll be fairly disappointed with everything else to do in the city.

Here in Utah we get huge blizzards some nights, in the Winter. And we usually have a lot of lightning during them. It really is something to behold. But other than the winter months we don't really got any rain, or thunderstorms.
