  • Beautiful, RIP brother Layne

  • :(

  • Something about Chains music... it gets inside of you. If you can feel this inside your chest then you understand.

  • 4 dislikes? You obviously are tone deaf and impaired in some way.

  • @IeatyellowSNO fuck 4 dises...just got back from a A.I.C. trib gig...long isld ny...long live layne!!!

  • @IeatyellowSNO they are Def Tones, not tone deaf lol

  • fucking amazing!!

  • Oh Layney! I've always loved this song, but got back into it just after my 1st son was born in 2002...realised a bit later that Layne had gone and joined 'that club'. So pretty, so sad & such a waste. RIP. <3 you. xxx

  • This instrumental imo is about a junky waiting for and finally getting a fix. The depressing discordiant beginning lead riff, then followed by the orgasmic triumphent lead guitar work (getting a fix, shooting up) then returning to the first melancholy riff representative of the fadeing effects, and representative ultamitely of the viscious cycle of heroin addiction.

  • this is the tenth AIC video ive had to flag for copy right. sorry but its the LAW

  • @SythDarKProductions

    thanks vevo (sarcasm)

you know, i really enjoy conformity (more sarcasm)

what would we do without you (pretty obvious by now)

  • @SythDarKProductions Somebody has a stick up their ass.

  • @SythDarKProductions Doesnt seem to have worked, bud.

  • @Antifaith29 i fucked ur grandmother

  • @SythDarKProductiCan't get any alive girls huh? understandable.

  • @Antifaith29 im sorry i was so dick i secretly love alice in chains

  • I've listened to this song outside with midnight breeze looking at Auro Borealis , Truly Beautiful , with a Beautiful Song .

  • Layne is my Jesus. This music is my God.

  • ok i find this kinda funny, it's a tribute to the singer but yet there are no lyrics in this song

  • what an amazing tribute, thanku xxx

  • another masterpiece.

  • I HATE LIFE WITHOUT LAYNE. I HATE LIFE WITHOUT YOU LAYNE. I NEVER MET YOU BUT I MISS YOU WITH ALL MY HEART. I LOVE YOU LAYNE. GOD I MISS YIOU

  • @matty2399

    he sucked cock.fuck you pussy!

  • @laynestaleyisadedFAG Funny how you made a youtube account about something you hate, tell your whore of a mom to sell 333 more pieces of ass to pay for your rehab as her and your whole family die of AIDS in which they where all raped by sick Monkeys in the trailer park near a foodstamp office next to a methadone clinic, you piece of ant shit

  • @firegodjon1 WOW, I love the agression!!!!!!

  • When I bought this album at 14 it was a transition for me. I was, and still am, a metalhead to the bone, but something in this album and especially this song stirred deep emotion in me and I was changed forever. The first decade of this century took alot of people I loved and admired. The ones who inspired me, made me think about the world from other points of view and sparked a revolution in my heart and mind. RIP to Layne and Dime, may they rock together for eternity. \m/

  • Ugh i hate people Layne should of gotten more support and news about his death....it's like he didnt even exist. but when cobain blows his head off cuz he's depressed the world fucking crys it's eyes out.

  • dude,i'm lost for words.....awsome....LAYNE RULES

  • 0:37 and 1:53 are my favorites

  • The way this song is just so dark, desperate and foreboding-much like Layne's life and his struggle with heroin-then transitions into a lighter, more hopeful set of riffs, then back to the darkness, is so powerful. I LOVE THIS SONG, it's a true masterpeice, along with Nutshell are my two favorite songs from Jar. This song says so much to so many without a single lyric. It really paralells Layne's life, for he too was in the abyss and got sober, during this album, but eventually died. RIP Layne!!

  • Whale & wasp illustrates AIC's versatility - I have yet to see another band create an eloquently gut-wrenching tune like this...without VOCALS! Layne, Jerry and AIC - rock gods in a world of wannabe's...

  • This song truly came from Cantrell's heart and soul.

  • Jar of Flies was definitely their best work

  • You can't imitate raw heartfelt emotion! Layne had it!

  • R.I.P. LAYNE

  • Hey dude, glad you like good music at age 17. Someone taught you very well. Love those/that persons. I saw AIC on their first tour with Slayer, Anthrax, & Megadeath in Louisville, KY. I sit her writing this just finding out a few hours ago my step mother for 30 yrs died. I turned to real music like this to help me deal and get my crying out. Justin Beiber will not do that for you kids.

  • R.I.P layne amazing man

  • beautiful, just beautiful.............

  • R.I.P. Layne! We miss you. I agree, Nu AIC isn't the same at all. It is growing on me, because we still have Mike, Jerry and Sean and that's cool, but DuVall makes a Layne replacement NOT!

  • sadess song to put to this but good vid man :)-

  • 1:27...It's like looking into the eyes of God.

  • Staley and Cantrell truelly needed each other to make great music. With out the other one the other will not be even close to as nice

  • @thestick169 That's why I so vigilantly disagree with these people who say that the band is just as good now. Glad to see someone agrees with me..not that it would matter but it's nice to know I'm not alone in my assessment of the present day AIC. Still love Jerry though, he's the shit!

  • this a mind journey...I would like to have jerry cantrell's mind for music.

  • This songs amazing when ur high

  • dam its unbelievable , what he would be wit ht odays tech.... rip friend.. finally find peace and harmony to your soul

  • we miss you

  • can any one tell me why its called Whale and Wasp id appreciate it, and R.I.P Layne

  • I think i know why. Jerry's slow electric guitar riffs represent the whale swimming ever so slowly in the deep seas, and the acoustic/clean guitar represent wasps flying gently in the wind. Who is playing the acoustic/clean guitar part? Is Layne playing it?

Anyway, AIC is the greatest band ever.

  • @burnmehdown214 thanks for the insight dude.....i would think its Layne playing acoustic, he would play rythm guitar from time to time....

couldn't agree more........AIC best band ever.

  • @theMenace985

doubtful it was Layne on the studio track.

  • Listen to this song on Opiates!!!! Its the shit!!

  • sure is

  • Cool song. The guitar sounds a lot like Steve Hackett's days in Genesis

  • Truly an amazingy crafted milestone in music, as expected with Stayley and Cantrell's work. I haven't come across much music measuring up to their standards other then the song Three Days by Jane's Addiction. I'm only 17, but I live for this shit.

There are just so many shining superlative to be shed on this music that I'll make like the vocalists in this track and let the music do the talking. My words simply do no justice to such an amazing band.

  • dude, that's a lot of wisdom for a 17 year old, especially since many douchenags your age are fascinated with Soulja Boy and Lady Gaga..keep exploring AIC..can't go wrong ("Rotten Apple", "God Am", "Hate to Feel", "God Smack", "Am I Inside", "The Killer Is Me", "Shame In You", "Head Creeps", "What the Hell Have I", "Rain When I Die", "Frogs", "Junkhead", "So Close", "Love Hate Love", "Last of My Kind", "Private Hell", "Grind", etc..)... also check "River of Deceit" and "All Alone" by Mad Season

  • there is an endless sea of music besides aic dont get me wrong aic in in my top 5 of all time,,,fuck rap music

  • search for wake up by mad season. its an amazing song.

  • you know what GO FUCK YOUR SELF KID!!

We're honering layne here and you know what layne and cantrell we're really good friends they've lived together because layne was drunk and cantrell was homeless and he said tha cantrell could live with him that was when they formed the band jerry and layne did as friends not as enemies and then you just feel like you should come here with you're lame ass comment and disturb this go home man with your lame "666" grow up man

  • sorry ment that it was for 666AngelFuck

  • @WhaIeAndWasp Such an eloquent description of the genius of these pioneers. For such a young guy I think you have an accurate perception of the deepest of this music and how much more it was than that. Aic will live forever. Your fellow fan, Flowr

  • @flowrpowrlovechild (I meant to say 'deepness of the music")

  • this is butefull, and i really love the pic in 1:13

  • It's a good song to hear looking at the stars, alone in the roof ^_^

  • in the roof? you want get stuck?

  • this is butefull!! butefull just like layne

  • LOL shut up

  • Shut up pussy.

  • I know a guy that looks like Cobain, and he does heroin. It's not funny. People make so much shit out of him. No one knows his real name, they just call him the Cobain kid or Kurt. The tormenting makes him do heroin more, that's how it started in the first place, being beat up for looking like Cobain. Heroin is not funny, but until you hear a talented person, try to decide between heroin and life, you know what I'm talking about. Drugs are bad.

  • the most beautiful song ever written. i wish i could have met one of my heroes; bob marley, jimi hendrix or layne staley :( r.i.p.

  • same 4 me just add in cobain

  • yep same last name as jerry cantrell

  • i love you

  • you have the same last name as Jerry?

  • Comment removed

  • This has got to be the most beautiful song i have ever heard without lyrics. I close my eyes and picture the whale as the man and the wasp the female, and how they are proclaiming their love for one another literally willing to die side by side.walk through fire to get to a place in eachothers arms. man its so rad! Kari Cantrall

  • layne, i still love you, i still burn!

  • weird I just read this...

"someday above you, I'll fly" - Layne Staley

I didn't know he said that till just now. I think coinsidence is Gods way of remaining anonymous! Great tribute btw.

  • watch love hate love live vid. itll blow your mind.

  • R.I.P Never be another like you, never can be replaced.

  • :_( the voice of our sorrow, our fears, our demons, our sometimes self-loathing.

  • well said

  • he looks so in peace and nothing can bother him inthat last pic

  • Fucking drugs , hendrix, lane, morison, Too many greats taken from us. Breaks my heart. We all feel the things he felt and wrote about with out the god damn drugs. Johnny rotten lost Sid to them. Fuck drugs

  • You forget, drugs by themselves can't do anything, a person has to be willing to take them and lose control.

There is a such thing as responsible drug use, but when you lead the life of a rock musician responsibility is something you forget.

  • Damn right, people tend to forget about personal responsibility. Layne probably had a depressive personality, so drugs made that worse.

  • Feel his pain. Got the same heroin demon layne had, never has anything(music) touched my soul sooooo deep. Layne is fuc••n amazing!!! The truth. Sept 12, AIC in concert here in indpls. The creativity of AIC died in 02 w/mr. Staley. R.I.P. Best ever, did layne have any children? Any1?

  • I dont believe that Layne has any children. He did have that girlfriend (Demri) for a long time, but she actually passed in 1996...also from a heroin overdose. It is very sad, especially when it consumes young peoples' lives. I do hope that you can overcome your demon, friend...I will keep you in my prayers:)

  • Layne's girlfriend Demri died from endocarditis (inflammation of the sac around the heart) from using dirty needles & heroin (not necess shared needles, just dirty).

  • I too have a soul connection w/layne & I am an addict.Ive never come across heroin n my using days, but Im VERY lucky cuz I am an addict of the hopeless variety & if i ever touched it, I wouldn't stop! I AM an opiate addict (norco & soma). EVERYTHING he wrote, his upbringing & his past w/his dad (if its true), EVERYTHING about him, I can either relate to, or has happened in my life. I truly feel hes an angel & he watches over us! Hes part of my Hghr pwr! RIP Layne & God bless U w/ur recovery!

  • I too am a opiat addict, but i dont consider it a disease, i look at it as an opening to the other side of life good and bad and the ability to feel pain and hurt but most importantly a gift to see the things in life we must teach are children about. my disease doesnt handicap me, it opens my mind and heart to others.

  • I see my addiction as a disease, a spiritual malady, an allergy, & selfishness. I never use my 'disease' as a handicap. We wish to never close the door on the past, but to share it with & help others. An addict is the 2nd most selfish person on the earth (the 1 who commits suicide being the 1st), but an addict walking in recovery is the least selfish person walking the earth. We are to give back to society what we have taken & we live in harmony w/others doing w/them what we can't do alone!

  • no offense dude but u wont be teaching yur children shit if u OD on opiate. quit it man u'll save urself and ur family especially ur children the heart ache of ur passing

  • I saw first hand a few weeks ago what you are talking about. I hope I never have to witness something that sad again in my life. It's a pointless death. He left behind 2 very young boys. A father who's world revolved around them. Started with pain killers and moved up to heroin. What a waste.

  • Soma is not an opiate, and norco is weak shit. You are lucky you are not addicted to something like heroin, or oxycotin.

  • Comment removed

  • I am VERY lucky to never have come across heroin! I think its a God thing because I am a VERY self-destructive person & I like opiates way too much that I wouldn't stop!!

  • If you really liked opiates you would find some and do it. Trust me thats what I did, but I was smart enough not to become addicted.

  • Whether you become an addict, or not, it has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence! LOL

  • Please take care of yourself. I don't even know you, but I was sad to see your post.

When you destroy yourself, you destroy people who barely know you. Love love love love!!!

  • thx for your response! thats really caring to say. I'm in a recovery program now thanks

  • thank you !!!

    yark

  • RIP, you magnificent bastard.

  • Wow. I feel somewhat emotional. I am one of those people who is extremely passionate about their music. I feel each of my favorite singers to my heart. Layne was top on my list. I listen to his songs every day. He is one of my obsessions.

The pictures, the music... got to me. Music is in a sad state today and I'm sick of wishing for him to come back and revive my happiness. lol

    Blah blah.

  • R.I.P. buddy!

  • layne I Love You , I Love You My best Friend , I Love You .... s2

  • rest in peace my master

  • watch love hate love pure power and soul

  • well said hurtreliefhurt

  • this song brings back memories of college. WE would get stoned call some girls get drunk and amke love to this song then sleep put song on repaet. Those were the days.

  • funny thing is i use to do the same by myself though well not the sex part

  • Cantrell is a genius. AIC, as for me, is the best rock band ever. I like what people call 'grunge', but AIC isn't a grunge band, strictly speaking. They are like LedZep in a sense that they have their own style and no frames.

What about Layne... Layne had a gift that no one have never had and there won't be another guy with such a voice and such an attitude. He was a masterpiece himself, a beautiful beautiful human being, a priceless gift for everyone who can appreciate a true talent.

  • @hurtreliefhurt if they wenrt a grunge band. why would it say they were in the alice in chains essential album...

  • @hurtreliefhurt

I disagree. I have heard many contemporary singers who are just as talented and good as Stayley. But it was in Stayley's uniqueness and individuality that he stood out. He had raw emotion and sorrow in his voice that Eddie Vedder, and many of his other peers, just couldn't match. Many other singers tried, but Stayley just was.

  • @hurtreliefhurt AIC is the best band in the world haha at least im not the only one to realize that

  • @hurtreliefhurt very well said and VERY true!!!

  • Good video! and good song to!

  • i love this song, but the one that makes me feel it is dont follow like he was telling us me you not worth it

  • dont follow is the best song, the words i believe jerry cantrell wrote, correct me if wrong please, the part where he says forgot my woman lost my friends things ive done and where ive been sleep in sweat the mirrors cold see my face is growin old ,im scared to death of reasons why do whatever to get me by think about the things ive said read that page its cold and dead so take me home, take me home...i yearn for tampa but from n.c. live in new england...lol

  • its scared to death no reason why, but yeah, amazing lyrics

  • OMG..i play this over and over..i just cant get enough..of him..he was the best ..always will miss him..rip...

  • This song is tuned funky everytime I hear it I get so depressed it's like a death rattle.

  • Beautiful. There is no other word for it. Just... beautiful... Makes me sad when I here it.

Rest in peace, Layne. Rest in peace.

  • DAMN he waz so sexxxxxxxxy RIP layne love u forever!!!!!!!!!!

  • Indeed. Don't ever f*ck around with her. Because she will f*ck your world up.

  • ya know, i think thats the most coherant reply about opiates ive ever heard.....live long my friend....also, RIP layne my brother

  • how did he die

  • got mauled by a heroin monster that broke loose

  • no shit

  • jerry cantrell is a fucking genius, and layne RIP

  • Great tune and tribute!

  • I saw these guys on the Facelift tour. It was life-changing. A tragic loss to the music world. Layne was an incredible inimitable singer.

  • Its like my best friend that killed himself, youre shocked, you hate them, then you miss them. Anyone can feel that toward Layne. I never met him, but I had the same reaction on that day in April 2002.

  • 1:32 holy shit layne was ripped

  • really kool man. one of the only slideshow videos i actually like. good job!

  • RIP Layne... My hero!

  • Musical genius.

  • God speed. Perfect tribute.

  • Alice in Chains FOREVER!

  • this song creeps me out at the beggining and for some reason at the end i about break into tears this is a very emotional song even though it doesnt seem like it... AIC forever!! RIP LAYNE!!

  • It's that damn howling that is so scary and the way the arpeggios on the guitar seem apocalyptical and ending. I used to sleep this. I love it.

  • brilliant, ....thanx

  • a very good song, all alice in chains songs were mad.

  • this song...listening to it makes me unafraid of death(if thats a word) cuz it sounds at the beginning your dying or something of the sort then other parts sound kinda pick me up tones like your dying but look..its the light..goddam are layne and cantrell gods in my eyes. they deserve more respect and recognition than they have right now..rip layne

  • I have to agree with you. It's like when you die, You first see the light then on and on you go down the dark tunnel

  • hahah thanks for agreeing with me this is my new acc forgot my pass on onlylivingonce but yea theres the chills goiing thru my body..god i love this song

  • you know when music hits your soul; it sends chills down your spine. it's fucking beautiful how this song can sound sad and peaceful at the same time...

  • "Sad and peaceful at the same time" ... that is probably the most simple yet best description I have ever heard about Layne's music. His music sends chills down my spine also, there is something pure about his music that isnt in most songs today.

  • Comment removed

  • I love Layne's music as much as the next person, as I even named my son after him, but this song was written by Cantrell.

  • wow ) my child is going to bear the same name.

  • me and shadow my daughter love this he was so beautiful,i cry every time i hear this and few others

  • i agree with you. this song is like you said so sad and peaceful at the same time and its got an eerie sort of spooky tone in it to.

  • RIP Layne. We love you & miss you.

  • This song is..how can I say...transcendental!

  • I miss Layne. He was so great person.

  • R.I.P Layne your voice moves me in ways that i will never understand

  • Great band...made timeless music

  • This song is hauntingly beautiful.

    RIP

  • JAR OF FLIES-hard to believe they wrote this and recorded this in 7 days.one song per day, when it debuted at number 1 the band was shocked.i want this song played at my funeral.i love how you can hear the hand moving on the strings.each note pure gold!

  • sandathi i hope u rott in hell and get butt raped by the devil and hitler every night

  • If you're going to make a comment direct to me, it's better to use 'reply' otherwise I won't be notified of it.

Re getting butt raped by Satan, likewise I hope you're forced to suck Yahweh's big fat cock for the rest of eternity.

  • ...the riff cracked me...TIMELESS
