i don't think that the natural habitats will be destroyed for ever but if humans gone down to 1 billion. perhaps the world will be able to sustain its self and re develop habitats of its own with the help of humans of course. even with out the human race, the world will be fine. i do believe that the more people are on the planet the more its gonna put pressure on the ecosystems.
'God' gives us the right to use the world and its creatures in any way we would like? You mean the same invisible man in the sky who grants wishes and hangs out with Santa Claus?...Sounds legit to me!
According to common sense we devour the planet and its resources for our pleasure - its our God given right. Really that is common sense.
What fool talks about this dumb Texas stuff? Someone who has not seen the complete collapse of the fishery, someone who has ignored history, someone who is scared to face the truth. It will take more than 10 acres of land to produce the energy one person consumes annually in North America. Calculate that into your square foot figures.
According to the U.N. Population Database, the world's population in 2010 will be 6,908,688,000. The landmass of Texas is 268,820 sq mi (7,494,271,488,000 sq ft). So, divide 7,494,271,488,000 sq ft by 6,908,688,000 people, and you get 1084.76 sq ft/person. That's approximately a 33' x 33' plot of land for every person on the planet, enough space for a town house. So does that sound like world overpoplation to you, every other country is still free only Texas is used 100% truth & fact.
@cannotfindavoice The average American uses 9 global hectares per person for their way of life, not 33 foot by 33 foot. Not to mention that room for just a house does not mean room to grow food, for water, for ecosystem services and everything else a human needs. Your texas stat is irrelevant, i could say that everyone could fit into loch ness, doesn't mean they could SURVIVE though.
@limoboss6242 with many and over population, comes disease, starvation and death.... look what happens to other species.... after all, we are merely animals as well. One difference though, we destroy everything we touch, we are the greediest and most evil species on Earth. Why do we deserve to do such evil in this world? What gives us the right to abuse the environment and each other? This world would thrive without us.... we cannot even survive without the honey bee....
We could be better friends not only to our planet, but to ourselves. By putting a limit on how much we breed. Also teaching our species that having ourselves spayed/neutered is not a bad thing!

@88osprey - We are greedy and evil because we are driven by sexual gratification. Sexual
pleasure is the ultimate of our existence, therefore our numbers increase beyond control!!
