Posted by me as a memorial on America's Thanksgiving Day Celebration.Let us not forget the Native American's who made the First Thanksgiving possible.
Anna Baasse for sharing this. I shared it with my family. I'm Koyukon Athabascan. My family is from Allakaket which is a small village up in Alaska. They are bringing home one of my cousins tonight by river, he had went missing awhile ago and they finally found him. They will finally be able to lay him to rest with our ancestors.
Your story and your song are a perfect exampleof the balance with in the cirlce of life. In so much that you suffered such a great personal loss, Out of that tragity, you were bless with this beauitful song. And, that you have freely shared that gift to all our relations.
My mother recently passed and I find comfort in this song, the voice just falls into place for me and the drums in combination with the sound of the river are like Life's eternal heartbeat.
Osiyo, Iam a son of the Aniyaunwiya( Cherokee) as well, since I was born outside the
tribe I have been trying to learn as mush as I can from my grandmother about the ways
of our people. And one day intend to take my place among the people. You give great honor to your grandmother by sing this prayer for her. Remember that there is truely no goodbyes, only Do Na Da Go hv l. Wado.
My Condolences to your GrandMother's passing. I have lost two of my mentors in the pass 6 mos. But i am only starting to learn about my Kuna Yalla side of the family. This song gave me comfort. Thank you
Wado Unalii for sharing with me. My mother has been gone now two weeks and she was the light of my life. She was my adopted Mother. My biological line descends from the Eastern Band Cherokee, but are throughout Tennessee, many having hidden during the removal and many walked the Trail of Tears. My biological family name is McLemore and has been told to me to be the equivalent of Smith in the white world. You have touched my heart deeply. I will return to Tennessee within the next year. Wado
I didn't put any words in this song I desired that it be placed on the drum so it could be used without being missunderstood. This melody came to me a few days after my grandmother passed away, I sang it at her funeral, very difficult. I felt great loss and sadness when I made the song and I feel the same when I sing it now.
@NativeWire This is beautiful, spiritual, and so pure. Thank you for sharing this beautiful and personal song for us and allowing us to see something from your life and your culture. Peace be with you.
HELP! Does anyone know the translation of this song? I would like to use it for a paper I'm writing in school about how different cultures deal with grief. Thanks!
I AM DEEPLY MOVED MOVED...MY GRANDFATHER WHO WAS 3/4 CHEROKEE IN WHOM I DID NOT HAVE THE HONOR OF MEETING HIM NOR HIS PEOPLE IN MY LIFE. I HAVE ALWAYS FELT AS IF A LARGE PART OF MY HEART HAS BEEN MISSING.
Thank you for posting Nativewire. I am Cherokee decent, I am a champion fancy dancer and also a traditional dancer. I am trying to learn more about my culture as I can. Thank you so much :) sgi
Thanks MHR.. you are just a special person and I am grateful to know you. by the way- that is a stunning drum youve got there -- just beautiful ! Wado, brother ~ J
Good Song - You don't need to know words of a song - even when in another language. You need only listen to the notes & voice of the singer to get an idea what the song is about.
I could feel the love & respect that lay within the notes of your song and your voice. I would dedicate such a song to my own loved ones who have gone on before me. I would sing to them - Until we meet again, you are forever in my heart!
Blessings to you & yours my friend. Thank you so much for sharing!
May the spirits of our ancestors guide you :)
