  • @rufus888 Exactly!!! Imagine if a car is driving makes a mistake and kills someone.

  • im wondering, can asimo sing?

  • Impresive and cute too~ I wanna hug him~

  • @doraemon8061 then you have to buy him. :D

  • THIS IS NOT CONDUCTING, IT IS JUST A SHOW.... CONDUCTING IS SHOWING O DYNAMICS... BUT ROBOT DID WELL I SUPOSE TO SAY :DDDD

  • This is why America is going downhill. Immigrant robots taking jobs from our weakest members: symphony conductors. Congress should ban this!

  • This is why America is going downhill. Immigrant robots taking jobs from our weakest members: symphony conductors. Congress should ban this!

  • That rendition is lacking as much musicality as several renditions led by flesh and blood conductors. what does that tell you?

  • its doing the same thing over and over again probably programmed to do a loop or something

  • @ottomobille no, he's doinng something called CONDUCTING!!!

  • cool!

  • robots can save us from destruction by traveling through distances we never dream of traveling and bringing us to a voyage to new worlds where we can live with fresh resources and plenty of life because our home will perish from our greedy habits..

  • guys, this is just a robot. do u think of emotion, pathetic from programmers? this a beautiful example of the future. robots are a copy of your mind.

  • This could be a very efficient Marching Band Drum Major. That's all they do is keep tempo and never use dynamics, cues, or melding techniques in their conducting. I can imagine seeing one of these bad boys in a Drum Core show or High School Marching Band competition.

  • I really don't think enough people are taking this seriously. The people who created this atrocity don't realize that being a conductor requires analytical thought, emotional expressiveness, pedagogical insight and decisive managerial skills. The day a robot can learn these things is the day that society looses it's humanity. As a young conductor...I'm scared... truly scared... that this thing could replace us one day if it gains the skills and talent needed to effectively lead an orchestra.

  • all it is a proof of concept, asimo in this case had to be programed to do this hes not learning anything. in this case all he is is a glorified metronome. conductors are safe!

  • But this is where it all starts...it always starts with an experiment just like this, and then it becomes more and more advanced until it is one day capable of doing the things we can do.

  • @rufus888

Your argument is nonsense and it´s only based on being afraid of losing your job. Trains will be driven by computers anyway and in some areas it is still done. For example in Nuremberg( Germany, I´m from Germany ) subways are controlled by computers.

You will have to change your job someday and you will be 100% alive when this happens.

Computers can´t make mistakes, humans can. If you don´t see a light hundreds of people can die in a massive accident. A computer cant ignore a sign

  • My argument is based on my fear of EVERYBODY yes even YOU losing your job someday RedJoker. Our ability to make mistakes is what makes us human. If we lose that ability by making machines that are perfect, then humanity as a civilization cannot learn from our mistakes, and therefore we no longer advance. Controlling a subway doesn't involve emotions and feelings, conducting an orchestra does. Plus computers can breakdown. If we all relied on them 100% of the time we'd be screwed!

  • @rufus888

Of course I will also lose my job ( I´m student right now ) but that´s the aim. Let the robots work for us ;)

Humans can also break down. Humans can get asleep ( the famous microsleep which is responsible for a lot of car accidents ), humans can only work a couple of hours and so on

People are just afraid of getting useless because we will have robots which are superior to us.

People were also afraid of industrialization and today? They are happy about it and you too

  • The difference is now we're happy with technology because it does things for us that don't require emotion or other uniquely human characteristics. What happens when robots will take ALL our jobs away, when they gain total autonomy? Why go to school if you're just going to lose your job to a robot? How will support yourself if you don't have a job? This probably won't happen in our lifetime but it's something to think about. I love philosophical banter! You're a pleasure to argue with!

  • @rufus888

And on the other hand the big aim of scientists is to develop robots which are like humans. Robots who have a free will, who can react spontaneously, who can make friends, go working. Such as in the movie I Robot.

Of course nobody of us will ever see such high tech robots but I hope scientists can reach that. I would be a great step for mankind.

  • And obviously you didn't get the message of the movie "I Robot". Yes it would be a great step for mankind, but at what cost? You have to weigh the pros and cons. You make a strong argument, we make great advances technologically but we lose the niceties of human interaction. The greater the power, the greater the responsibility.

  • Can we have one for our orchestra please? He looks cute and less trouble than the real thing.

  • i robot maybe?

  • I never appreciated what a real, live, talented conductor can do until now - good to know that Zubin Mehta's job is still safe!

The orchestra wasn't even trying to follow the robo-conductor, and I don't blame them.

  • It's amazing how he conducts this orcherstra o_O. Great music with a great conductor , just awesome .

  • that was awesome

  • i agree with lurch915 lol

  • Does this show how sophisticated robots have become or that conductors have an easy job? Just kidding.

  • Everyone will one these there amazing and we come so far along with technology, wow!

  • its amazing God gives people the abilities to people to make these things

  • whow amazing!, some fucker that doesn't believe in humans mind and habilities. friend your "god" exist, he wouldn´t be puting habilities ona brain, is nonsense

  • so god is making cancer research....

  • Maynard Ferguson's arrangement is better but for a robot ASIMO doesn't do too bad.

  • sorry, but Asimo screwed up the retard towards the end

  • Maybe, but any conductor will tell you that the orchestra screwed up. Remember: conductors and their tempos and gestures are never wrong! :)

  • Especially if its has the precision of an electronic clock keeping time !

  • Dude, maybe it has a few bugs, no bot is perfect, that is, not for a while.

  • to become fully orchestrated by machines. is it our destiny?

  • were did you download that vid i want it

  • amazing...

  • as a musician, i would consider it an honor to perform with something as famous as Asimo as my conductor

  • Amazing, i know its all programmed in but to just think that it can walk on and do that, genius Honda, genius

  • Part of it is, but its actually very autonomous.

  • actually ASIMO has 2 modes, autonomous, and remote control, I'm pretty sure it was on remote control then...

  • Hmm... Well we can't really know then.

  • i'm in one of the detroit symphony civic youth ochestras. this is awersome!

  • Saddening, don't really know why, but that's how I felt watching that.

    =S

  • LOL at the people nodding to it like it's alive.

But good job on raising all that money.

  • pretty cool but im not sure if it had any knowledge of the feelings in the piece 'cause it sounded very flat, but I guess I'm a little bit biased. Need to do a double-blind experiment.

  • They must've edited out the part where the robot destroys everything and his race takes over the world.

  • haha

  • This is an interesting concept. And even though Asmio was pretty much just keeping beat, it's interesting to think where this could go.

  • GIANT ROBOTS! WITH LASERS! AND HOT GIRLS WITH BIG BOOBS AND EVEN BIGGER EYES! It's gonna be AWESOME!

  • lol, just the start of robots taking over our world!!, this is phase one in there plan.

  • Simply said, this is against us....I gueass humans...who cares for us....little peple.

  • swwet, but I want the robot to be more interactive and self-sustaining with artificial intelligence...

I am an electrical engineer...i wish to make more sophisticated robots and I want to seem them in a war against machines...like terminator 3 judgement day

  • how autonomous was that !! ?

  • bender (after seeing this) would say- "we come along way baby, he's a real trashcan"

and than a trash can with a honda sign would replay "dont insult me, i'm better than him"

...nostalgia for Futurama... we miss you, Bender...

  • BigDog vs Asimo

  • not as impressive as it seems. he's just waving his arms. if someone in the orchestra messes up or something, he cant correct for that for example

  • Oh my god SHUT UP, You can't even lead an orchestra so shut up.

  • Not impressive? It is a robot...of course we don't expect it to adjust to an orchestra's mistake....however, it would only be a simple adjustment in the software to allow Asimo to do just that. And we also don't expect the orchestra to mess up either.

  • my point is, it's just moving its arms in front of an orchestra. colledge robotics teams can make robots that do more impressive stuff. I'm not saying asimo is a crap robot, he's amazing, but this is just a lame publicity stunt.

  • You're not acknowledging that the ASIMO moves its head when responding to a specific section of the orchestra; it handles the ritardando near the end as if humanly responding to the sensitivity of the musicians; subdivides the beats of the antepenultimate bar; and gives a clear cutoff that doesn't disrupt the flow or the style. It's people like you that think you can reduce the responsibility of the conductor to just waving his arms. But, my friend, you just aren't paying attention well enough.

  • are you trying to say he's actually listening and interpreting it, or that he's just been well programmed for that performance?

  • he is interpreting it mostly

  • no offence but how do you know that??

I don't think he's interpreting it from watching again. He's been very well programmed to give that effect. They know exactly how long the song is and it's structure, and have modelled his movements on what a real conductor would be doing at that point.

  • Thats probably true to a point, but part of it is autonomous.

  • It was a perfect preformance from both the Detroit Symphonic and Asimo...plus I highly doubt the a bunch of profesional musicians will mess up that easly..

  • you're missing my point

  • No I'm not...I know it's a pub. stunt but it is certainly not a bad onw...how often do ya see a F***ing robot conduct the F***ing Detroit Symphonic Orchestra. Anyway just so you know I compleatly get your point.

  • @KasunK18 - It's an interesting concept, all right, but I certainly wouldn't call it a perfect performance. I think that as a musical experience, it stank.

  • Awesome!

  • dangerous times

  • sweeeet

  • a robot in detroit that ISN'T robocop?!?!?

  • jajajaja great!

  • hahaha

  • That was amazing, thanks for uploading.

  • I wanna see the robot do death metal and crowd surf

  • awesome... great humans great minds...

  • Its funny how he waves both arms around when he says hello everyone.

  • Absolutly wnderful !!
