The battle started Dec. 23, 1814 ended Jan. 8, 1815
I am born on Jan. 8 and a Tennessean around 2000 or so went to
fight in the battle and the British named them "Dirty Shirts" guess they didnt care to get dirty while fightn in the swamps. I got an old ratrod I was going to get something painted on it to represent the battle anybody got an idea holler @ me. Hank Sr. kicks ass!!!
Jerry Rivers was great but my favorite version is by the Arkansas Barefoot Boys from the 1920's or early 30's. It's on Youtube but the transfer is noisy. Johnny Horton and Hank Williams have two weird things in common. They were both married to the same woman and the last gig they played was at the same club.
No comments on this piece of musical history? Sometimes, I just don't understand YouTubers! A fiddle tune that commemorated a famous battle and became the basis of a hit song, played in two different versions by the band of a major Country-Western star and less than 1500 users have listened to it. Sad.
Tremendous!
