There would never be an Empire State of Mind Part 2 without this song, and it wouldn't really make sense to have a song BY JAY-Z and have him not rap. Like seriously? Think before you write.

Part 2 has more depth and doesn't include Jay Z simply bragging about his rep and possessions throughout the whole song. I prefer Alicia's as it's more an anthem for the city itself and less about her personal fame and glory, like Jay Z's version is =/

I don't think he is dissing the church or Jesus... I think he is commenting on the way that people think... and act when they get "TOO" much of "New York"... If you listen it starts with... Life is blinding... girls need blinders... or they can step out of line quickly... One verse bringing up New York... the other telling the pitfalls of life in New York
