Linux = kernel, GNU - Linux = operating system. Linux itself is just a kernel, and Linux is not "turning into the hands of non-free companies.". 2nd, you gotta choose, Oracle or Microsoft ... Java or C#. People should be happy that C# reaches Linux since Java gets an opponent.
3rd, if you wanna use "free" software use it, like you can use Iceweasel insted of Firefox. 4th, GNU is making their own kernel.
But, what's the matter if some company try to earn with Linux? They DEVELOP mono and have been doing good thing! (I am using Monodevelop and it is GREAT!!!)
If you want to play with Silverlight, fine, but don't take part in the development of a deliberately patent encumbered piece of subterfuge like Moonlight.

The merger lasts for 4 more years. The patent covenants last for 20+ years. This was guaranteed by Microsoft and Novell by a clause in the merger.
