Yup. Exactly what I wrote below several days ago. Shoulder shimmies are as old as bellydancing and they're available in every bellydancer's repertoire -- Ansuya's hardly the first or only one to use them. And she uses them well.

It's called a shoulder shimmy (not "jiggling") and it's a perfectly legitimate and effective move in bellydancing. I think Ansuya uses her shoulder shimmies to great effect.

I also had a completely different reaction the first time I saw this. I noticed that her entire body -- from her feet to her eyes -- are in motion throughout the song. She's a wonderful bellydancer and a great interpreter of the songs she chooses to dance to.

You go, girl. Shimmy up a storm. ;)

Ansuya is infamous for her zagat playing, she is great with these and you really never see her without them. Her mother was a dancer as well, and I hope you have tried to incorporate dancing and constant zagat playing, it is not that easy. My fav will always be Souheir and Naima Akef, but I can still find quality in other dancers, you just have to appreciate it for what it is...expression

Goddess, I could watch Ansuya dance for days. She makes it look so joyful and easy, you almost forget the YEARS OF PRACTICE it takes to get to her level. That's why it drives me crazy when I read people's negative comments towards bellydancers. Here is where one can see who knows something about Belly dancing and who doesn't. You can believe me, this girl is more skilled than Shakira, I have seen Shakira too, but never with the Zills (that requires coordination and a sense of music and timing she won't ever have) and, apart from that, Shakira tries to dance "dirt", she doesn't perform as elegantly as Ansuya or some other I've seen here in Spain or in Egypt or Turkey.

So stop whining and enjoy a different type of dance! Tradition is not everything, dancing is constantly evolving and borrowing from other cultures and traditions. What you're calling a traditional belly dancing now, wasn't considered as such centuries ago and was probably frowned upon as something new that is coming to destroy a tradition.
