Umm leon redbone's real name is Dickran Gobalian, a Cypriot. Not really an American but a Canadian citizen. Not that it matters, he is just incredible.
I love this song, my grandma used to sing it to me whenever I woke up. Who was the original artist to sing this song? And where can I find a link to it.
First off, this IS Americana, that is, it is indicative of art produced in America. The son was written by Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer. Check out a pic of Hoagy Carmichael. If you can believe it, Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond books, wanted Carmichael to play James Bond.
Regardless, this is one of the best renditions of this tune. Great stuff.
I'M AN UPCOMING BLUES ARTIST...1930ish style with original songs. My goal is to bring back a forgotten sound to this new generation. I am looking for subscribers and future fans. I will upload my first song and introduction to the world soon. Thanks to all those who will subscribe.
my father also sang this ..........daily .......only the words were changed to "sleepy head, sleeping in the bed" Hated it them but fond memories now.
@Laynaesbonita if your talking about the epic lyrics typed up. but i could be very wrong. this song is kind of bad. but i just discovered this guy tonight and all his other songs have blown my mind lololololol i are guy who are hella high
This is cool, and I'd never heard of this song or this guy until now, but I like it! Go the youth of America not listening to crappy music! (That's me :D)
@lrrooster2002 WOW!! Great suggestions! Alright I will have to listen to all of them and see which one will work for the style of videos I make! :) Have you checked out my page? Most of it is silly stuff, my kids! But there is a video about the Kent State Massacre you may enjoy.
Great thanks! Lyrics are these though: Lazy bones, sleepin' in the sun How d’you 'spect to get your day's work done? You’ll never get your day's work done Lyin’ in the noonday sun Lazy bones, sleepin' in the shade How you gonna get your corn meal made? You’ll never get your corn meal made Lyin’ in the noonday shade When the taters need sprayin' I bet you keep prayin' The bugs fall off the vine And when you go fishin' I bet you keep wishin' The fish don’t grab at your line etc
@Laynaesbonita Sorry - wasn't room in my 500 characters to explain fully! My singing teacher gave me this song to learn and I found your excellent video on here when I was looking it up. I'm ashamed to admit that I had never heard of the song or the singer before, so thanks for posting this! As I had to learn the words, I was singing along to your copy while listening and that's when I noticed the differences. Thanks again for the work on the video!
@lrrooster2002 You are very welcome sweetheart! My mother listened to this when I was a little girl. I love this song and so many of his other recordings. You should look up a few others. I have said before that I was going to make another video for one of his songs and I think I am gonna start NOW! You have inspired me! Thank YOU!
1. My first tentative comment on a YouTube video, so thanks for the welcoming response!
2. The first time I have been called "sweetheart" for several decades.
3. The first time I have inspired anyone to do anything!

It's a great album overall. My dad knew several of the songs when he heard this back in 1978ish (he was born in 1920). The only musician I can name off that album other than LEON is DON McCLEAN, who plays the banjo on "Polly Wolly Doodle". NO SHIT!!!!!!! Anywho, great tribute to great stuff.........
Any Tom Waits fans out there?? "Nighthawks At The Diner" specifically"??
You really did a nice job producing this video. I've enjoyed Leon's music since discovering him on NBC's Sat. Night Live back in the 70's...seen him live several times over the past 30 years.
Leon is a mystery, wrapped in a riddle, and shouded in a Panama hat.! No one seems to know who he really is or where he came from. Not even his manager knows for sure.
@kdegru I was unable to find who was accompanying him on which song, how ever I did find the credits for the entire album. I will post them in the description.
I remember attending a concert at Convocation Hall, University of Toronto in the early 70's: what a blast. There was Leon with his grass and conac, in a relaxed mood, moving his audience into a frency. What an era, what a time, what a musician.
I tried the best I could to make the pictures I chose tell the story in the song... I just came back from a business trip to South Carolina and although it is HOT it is VERY beautiful.

Here are some suggestions:
Mountains of Mourne - an old Irish ballad about homesickness done very well by Don McLean.
Streets of London - an original song about loneliness by Ralph McTell.
Captain's Log - a song about loss and acceptance by Spirogyra.
Little Red Rooster - my namesake's song about lazy hot summer days, by Muddy Waters or the Rolling Stones.
Down Home Girl - one of my favourite Rolling Stones tracks about lust! Or Wild Horses by them too, about needing.
