  • Umm leon redbone's real name is Dickran Gobalian, a Cypriot. Not really an American but a Canadian citizen. Not that it matters, he is just incredible.

  • @PiggusVomitus No one knows for sure. Some reports say he was from Philadelphia and moved up to Canada.

  • First heard "Lazy Bones" on an old Dixieland comp album my dad had. A great song.

  • My grandfather woke me up every morning at 5 am just to tell me goodbye singing this song.... made me cry to hear it again.

  • @shamasi1968 My Mom used to wake me up singing this song. I haven't heard it for about 38 years. Made me cry too.

  • @miffity1 The beauty of memories...

  • Hoagy Carmichael's version is the best. He wrote the song.

  • I sing this song to the cats when they laze around, like the one right next to my computer, too bad you can't hear him purr.

  • cool

  • first timer here, thjis was GREAT!

  • I love this song, my grandma used to sing it to me whenever I woke up. Who was the original artist to sing this song? And where can I find a link to it.

  • @Scullnblades Hoagy Carmichael wrote and performed the song. Check Hoagy's version that has Dorothy Danbridge in it. It's on Youtube.

  • Anyone have anything on Leon's Desert blues (Big chief buffalo nickle)? Love to hear it again! Thanks ( It was on the same album as this song)

  • just prop me up over in the corner ......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • I'd like to see an American America.

  • Much closer to the original by Hoagy Carmichael

  • His voice really goes with this song. I think that the Ted Lewis version is the best of all, but this one is a close second.

  • @Upcamehill I think I would have to disagree with you on that on, I love Leon!!

  • LIKe to see a spanish version

  • Gotta love Leon!

  • @TheDoityKids Sure do!!! <3

  • Leon Redbone singing a Hoagy Carmichael/Johnny Mercer song! It doesn't get much better than that!

  • First off, this IS Americana, that is, it is indicative of art produced in America. The son was written by Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer. Check out a pic of Hoagy Carmichael. If you can believe it, Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond books, wanted Carmichael to play James Bond.

Regardless, this is one of the best renditions of this tune. Great stuff.

  • Leon Redbone, Classic.

  • I'M AN UPCOMING BLUES ARTIST...1930ish style with original songs. My goal is to bring back a forgotten sound to this new generation. I am looking for subscribers and future fans. I will upload my first song and introduction to the world soon. Thanks to all those who will subscribe.

    seth edward

  • my father also sang this ..........daily .......only the words were changed to "sleepy head, sleeping in the bed" Hated it them but fond memories now.

  • my dad used to sing this to me, first time i have ever heard it

  • découverte récente pour moi, je suis tombé sous le charme de cette voix si particulière

recent discovery for me, I fell in love with this particular voice

  • Very nice. I remember when he was on Saturday Night Live back in the 70's.

  • well done, laynaesbonita

  • @nipperandskipper Thank you!! :)

  • @Laynaesbonita if your talking about the epic lyrics typed up. but i could be very wrong. this song is kind of bad. but i just discovered this guy tonight and all his other songs have blown my mind lololololol i are guy who are hella high

  • great American music.

  • Can't get any more Americana than this song and video

  • @nahershey What you tryin to say? You implying that American's are lazy? NEVER! :)

  • @Laynaesbonita Americans are lazy, and fat. If you deny that look around. And an american is saying this.

  • pretty sure he's canadian.

  • This is cool, and I'd never heard of this song or this guy until now, but I like it! Go the youth of America not listening to crappy music! (That's me :D)

And the video was well done! I like!

  • @colbertsparrow Thank you.

  • @colbertsparrow

Leon is cool. He was one of the first guests on the original Saturday Night Live. Very unique but has a great sound.

  • Dear 'Sir Leon' De la Redbone,

You have always been, 'the best of the best' !

Come visit us in Australia! We would love you!

It would be better than the Tour of France!

  • Here are some suggestions:

Mountains of Mourne - an old Irish ballad about homesickness done very well by Don McLean.

Streets of London - an original song about loneliness by Ralph McTell.

Captain's Log - a song about loss and acceptance by Spirogyra.

Little Red Rooster - my namesake's song about lazy hot summer days, by Muddy Waters or the Rolling Stones.

Down Home Girl - one of my favourite Rolling Stones tracks about lust! Or Wild Horses by them too, about needing.

  • @lrrooster2002 WOW!! Great suggestions! Alright I will have to listen to all of them and see which one will work for the style of videos I make! :) Have you checked out my page? Most of it is silly stuff, my kids! But there is a video about the Kent State Massacre you may enjoy.

  • Im using this song for a short movie about my cats :)

  • Great thanks! Lyrics are these though: Lazy bones, sleepin' in the sun How d’you 'spect to get your day's work done? You’ll never get your day's work done Lyin’ in the noonday sun Lazy bones, sleepin' in the shade How you gonna get your corn meal made? You’ll never get your corn meal made Lyin’ in the noonday shade When the taters need sprayin' I bet you keep prayin' The bugs fall off the vine And when you go fishin' I bet you keep wishin' The fish don’t grab at your line etc
  • @lrrooster2002 I used the ORIGINAL lyrics. But thank you still

  • @Laynaesbonita Sorry - wasn't room in my 500 characters to explain fully! My singing teacher gave me this song to learn and I found your excellent video on here when I was looking it up. I'm ashamed to admit that I had never heard of the song or the singer before, so thanks for posting this! As I had to learn the words, I was singing along to your copy while listening and that's when I noticed the differences. Thanks again for the work on the video!

  • @lrrooster2002 You are very welcome sweetheart! My mother listened to this when I was a little girl. I love this song and so many of his other recordings. You should look up a few others. I have said before that I was going to make another video for one of his songs and I think I am gonna start NOW! You have inspired me! Thank YOU!

  • @Laynaesbonita Well, this is a triple first:

    1. My first tentative comment on a YouTube video, so thanks for the welcoming response!

    2. The first time I have been called "sweetheart" for several decades.

    3. The first time I have inspired anyone to do anything!

Thank you Laynaesbonita, you are obviously a valuable contributor to YouTube, the internet and humanity - so refreshing to see such things here instead of countless movies of people falling over or being made fools of.

  • I use to sing this to my kids when they were babies. I can't wait to sing it to my grand kids.

  • Hi there,

anwsering your question.... here is somebody out there with "nighthawks albums"

Leon redbone, Omar and the Howlers, Steve Samuels.......you name it!

All bought in a wonderfiul store in Darmstadt, Germany... called Uli´ S Musicladen.

    Any questions??

    See ya

    Rudi.

  • Wow! Leon Redbone - way too cool. A man always in his time...Ageless.

  • It's a great album overall. My dad knew several of the songs when he heard this back in 1978ish (he was born in 1920). The only musician I can name off that album other than LEON is DON McCLEAN, who plays the banjo on "Polly Wolly Doodle". NO SHIT!!!!!!! Anywho, great tribute to great stuff.........

Any Tom Waits fans out there?? "Nighthawks At The Diner" specifically"??

  • Thanks for posting this tune! One of my Favs! Helps me justify layin around on my fat ass!

  • @goinbzurk you are so silly! How does it justify laying around your "fat ass"?? The whole point is to get up and get it done! :) Silly Goose!

  • You really did a nice job producing this video. I've enjoyed Leon's music since discovering him on NBC's Sat. Night Live back in the 70's...seen him live several times over the past 30 years.

  • Leon is a mystery, wrapped in a riddle, and shouded in a Panama hat.! No one seems to know who he really is or where he came from. Not even his manager knows for sure.

  • @xvoy2002 he is WONDERFUL! I am going to do another video of one of his songs probably this weekend!

  • From his "On the Track" album 1975

  • @unclemeat80 this information is in the description ALREADY. thank you.

  • This is a great tribute to a great entertainer! Job well done.

  • This was great. Does any one including the poster know the accompanying musicians and when this was recorded?

  • @kdegru I was unable to find who was accompanying him on which song, how ever I did find the credits for the entire album. I will post them in the description.

  • Love Mr Redbone, think I'll dig up my old albums and play them on the record player today...a VERy lazy day with the blizzard outside.

  • Been looking for this song for 28 years. Began to think I'd had a drug induced song in my head. Sing it Leon!

  • Uh oh, after seeing this, early in the morning, I think it may have to be a Leon Redbone day, today. Very well done.

    Rick

  • @xHolyCrapx Thank you very much!!

  • @xHolyCrapx I have always maintained that if you start your day with Leon Redbone, it is impossible to have a shitty day.

  • nothing wrong with being lazy !!!!!!

  • I remember attending a concert at Convocation Hall, University of Toronto in the early 70's: what a blast. There was Leon with his grass and conac, in a relaxed mood, moving his audience into a frency. What an era, what a time, what a musician.

    Thanks for the posting

    Ted

  • @joomuck You are very welcome my dear! I try to post things that move me.

  • Johnny Mercer & Hoagy Carmichael that is

  • One of his best! Nicely done vid as well. ;)

  • Lyrics by Johnny Mercer.

  • This is my funeral song.

  • Thank You !

  • Thank you to all!!!

  • I always loved this song.

Your video makes it come alive.

    Great Job!!!

  • this is great, i showed this to my two daughters and they loved it also, thanks for keeping this "real" music alive.

  • Did anyone mention that this was written by Hoagy Carmichael?

  • I am trying to find a video of him doing a song called Marie, any help?

  • I looked and I can't find that one! Sorry hun.

  • i have the song i just dont know how to put it up

  • Explain what you mean sweetheart, What is the issue. Copywrite??

  • no i stink with comps

  • @sniken93 not to sure what you meant there hun... I barely understand my shorthand! :D

  • I could listen to Leon day and night

  • There is a dearth of Redbone's music on YouTube, I would love for you to do "Walking Stick" the same way. Please?

  • I will try. I have been thinking about making a new video lately anyway and you just gave me a good idea.

  • Thank you! I will watch for it!

  • Violet7Stella...GET OUT OF L.A.! There's a big planet out there to see. True "change" is about travel...

  • Terrific Video! Keep up the good work.

  • I tried the best I could to make the pictures I chose tell the story in the song... I just came back from a business trip to South Carolina and although it is HOT it is VERY beautiful.

  • So Very Cool Good Job Thx!!!

  • You are welcome and Thank you!!!

  • Lovely!!! Really well done! I love the tune and L.R. but The vid sequence is what really kept my attention! ;-)

  • Thank you !!! I do try!

    david
