"Not My Kid" is propaganda which depicts Straight Inc., a popular drug rehab in the 80's. I was in there and was there when this movie came out. This movie is so watered down.....the real Straight was much more extreme & over the top than this film.

This clip is a great example of how lies were told in portraying Straight. In the clip you are seeing open meeting. "Newcomers" had to do introductions as shown. Parents and siblings were present as shown. The entire set up, parents across from the group of kids is 100% accurate....parents also would say something to the kid like shown. Sometimes the parents would yell and scream at the kid though.

However, staff never interrupted/asked questions of a kid during his introduction. What really happened is that after the open meeting, after parents were no longer around to see/hear, and if staff believed a newcomer lied during the introduction the kid would get ripped to pieces in Open Meeting Review. Staff and other kids in the group would scream, curse, insult, belittle, and humiliate the kid. These confrontations were always extremely loud and frightening.

The other big lie is that huge drug list confession. Confrontations were brutal in Straight, so many made up stuff just to make the screaming stop. The more horrid the stories you told, the more quickly you seemed to advance in Straight. Since I was repeatedly called a liar when I insisted I never did drugs, I (lied) said I did inhalants just to get the screaming to stop.
