  • You'll be relieved to know that Oil demand is decreasing faster than our ability to produce it! This is fantastic news. While it does mean that global recession is upon us, that is a shallower slope down than if exponential demand were brickwalled by collapsing supplies!

That would be catastrophe. At least economic decay in a time when oil is still available offers hope. One thing more expensive than oil these days-- credit. And it looks like credit is winning =)

  • I'd say the first big change would be the need to plan...everything. No more dropping by the grocery store 15 minutes before to pick up a single meal and no more just 'letting things develop' as a life plan. Which has been my ONLY way of operating my entire life lol.

My biggest worry is the justice system.

I think, on a positive note, it will change art in a big way.

  • The end is nigh!@

  • I need to do a video on "Borders Books" having pulled the entire "Science & Technology" section (at the Ward Center Branch) out..completely....replaced some 14-year old girl "Hannah Montana" Fiction....

I was amazed.... Anyway, I wonder if there is any thread relating that event to Peak Oil (hmmmm....maybe not!... ) Aloha, USCVM

"Let's dumb down America" (my buddy joked "Damn, Palin works fast" ...cleared the S&T books from shelves).

  • Hi Kris, I did a video a while back on how (At the time) the "Talking heads" were saying that oil had come down because Americans were driving less, and how bogus that was. I think that the "Market" price is driven right now by a PERCEPTION of supply and demand as reported on CNN, CNBC, etc.. If this keeps up, the price will stay low, until one day it's... Surprise there's a shortage. Then watch the price go up

  • This is #3 of 3

It was only this past winter as I pondered how ugly some buildings are that I decided to do a web search under "bad architecture" to obtain affirmation from the internet for my feelings on ugly buildings. That's how I discovered James Howard Kunstler. And this time my education on Peak Oil stuck.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY: One-off news items on PO do NOT stick, but ongoing interaction (like your channel) does. Affirmation is the name of the game. "Keep beating the drum!"

  • I've now tried SIX TIMES to post my closing remarks.

  • Wow. I tried TWICE just now to post "COMMENT #3 OF 3" and failed. What's up, YouTube?

I again heard of Peak Oil about two years later (2003) on a message forum at a Hollywood movie web site. But again, no additional affirmation came from any other source. And even though everyone in that thread seemed just as alarmed and dumbfounded as I (once again) was, within a few hours we all abandoned the thread, got on to new threads about movies and coffee filters and how annoying it is when your cell phone dies. So with the lack of affirmation I again forgot.

Kris, I first learned of Peak Oil in May 2001in a magazine article. It so terrified me I was actually shaking as I read. But then when I saw no affirmation of Peak Oil's urgency or even existence in any other cultural barometers --magazine articles, broadcast news, TV shows and movies-- I settled back into complacency within less than an hour and let myself forget it. Life, afterall, goes on, and if the rest of life made no mention of it, surely it can't be THAT bad.

  • This is sth I heard in a video about peak oil: politicians will never mention a problem unless they can come up with a solution or policy right after. If you cay sth like "This is peak oil and you are pretty damn screwed" what do you say after??? That´s digging your own grave as a politician...

  • the price is dropping again around election time. fishy...

  • beer - it takes fuel to delivery the beer to the bar, and then it takes fuel to make the bottle, brew the beer, as well as farm the barly, move the sugar, cut down the tree to make the label. it takes fuel to make the computer they use to print the label. Then it takes fuel to ship the label to the factory where they stamp it on the bottom before they ship the beer to the bar!

  • In response to your question of what will be effected by peak oil I would suggest that the most likely change will be the establishment of local networks (neighborhoods/communities) where people build supportive relationships. It is unlikely (undesirable) that this will be a gov't lead effort but rather a cellular evolution.

The great news is that this is already happening and I have every reason to believe that it will continue.

  • I have brought up the subject of peak oil with dozens of people. Only 1 or 2 have ever even heard of it. That may not be a bad thing. I everbody was 'Aware" then hoarding might begin. Other behavior related to panic.

As far as the Internet is concerned, for people who watch oil and fiancials info is so instanteous that I think this affects price fluctuations.

However in reality the price flucations may also be part of Gov asking the oil companies to comply at least to election time.
