The whole ordeal is simply ridiculous. First of all, Etta covered the song herself, so she has no right to say, "My song". Secondly, Beyonce did a very good job in keeping the elegance in the song. Also, Etta needs to rethink her actions because she is old enough to know better. Whatever the case may be, music is there to bring joy and entertain. Etta James is a legend. If it wasn't for women of James' caliber...there would be no Beyonces of today. Also, they made real music back then, music that would stand the test of time. I highly doubt 'Single Ladies' and 'Bootylicious' will be as memorable and classic as 'At Last' , 30 years from now. As you age, you lose the beauty of youth and often your voice. 'At last' is not Etta's song either. Etta didn't write the song. Mack Gordon and Harry Warren wrote the song. If I remember correctly, it was FIRST sung by Ray Eberle and Pat Friday. Etta still gets paid REGUARDLESS!!! Everyone knows these are Etta's songs. Anyone who do NOT know that needs to study real soul music. I would have expected better from Etta, not that negative attitude. Etta is the Queen of her time and her music.

@MsLOVE18LEJO About the "getting paid" part. Etta never had the copyrights to this song. Two men wrote it and she was supposed to have paid them every time she sang it! It was also a Big Band hit first by Glen Millers' Band. Etta never mentions that. She doesn't want Beyonce to do to her what she has been doing for years. I'm not sayin that she never paid royalties, but if she did, it seems that she would have "educated" Beyonce about that in her statement as well as "woopin ass!" lol

'At last' is not Etta's song either. Etta didn't write the song. Mack Gordon and Harry Warren wrote the song. If I remember correctly, it was FIRST sung by Ray Eberle and Pat Friday. Etta actually did a COVER of the song. It is NOT Etta's song. Give credit to where it belongs and people need to get their 'facts' right.

@animeslbabe It was written back in 1941 by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren. It first became a hit in the early 1940s and sung by Ray Eberle, with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. It was featured in the movie musicals Sun Valley Serenade and Orchestra Wives. It was forgotten after the war then Etta James made it even more famous with her classic rendition in the early 1960's.

yeah unfair comparison... listen to Etta in her prime and Beyonce (in her prime), they both rock. music is not a competition people, it's about enjoying life. sure Etta doesn't "have it" like she use to, she's 70+, respect to her for not living her life just waiting to be put in a pine box. she is a singer, let her sing...
(and she is old, old people tend to get grumpy :(...)

Omg etta needs to hang it up after 70 years she served well but she just dont got it no more. I mean she really did fuck up her own song when singing. I mean she just don't even sound on pitch nevermind that TERRIBLE frabrado . If she gonna have a dive beat down at least compare it to the original song she recorded cuz this was just a terrible performance from her. i would maybe say it was her worse.

WHAT!?! Etta is a hater. She didn’t even write the song; she just did a great job performing it. Beyonce is very classy; and at least Etta’s story was expressed through a movie by an esteemed/talented woman. Anyway, the First Dance was a historical moment for the President and his First Lady regardless of song and artist. Furthermore; just as Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush was; the Honorable Barack Obama is my President, because I am a proud American. (period)

It's that darn vibrato that I can't stand from the great Beyonce. She has absolutely no soul. I'm sure Mary J could do a better job. With American Idol and all the singers that would never get any kind of recording contract in the past. I mean there was a time when you had to have talent and not looks. Why do we accept such mediocrity? Thank God for the talents of Etta, Aretha, Lady Day, Ella...the list goes on and on but we are not adding much to it lately.
