Many traditional martial arts training methods are brutal and can cause serious injury. This is nothing new under the sun. If you want to learn at an accelerated rate, you have to take your lumps. Remember the term "school of hard knocks"
Bobyjhousinit lol...you have a interesting point there!!!You know what got me thinking.. I done Martial arts too and sparred before!!!It must be a interesting experiance for sure... but yeah is it realy worth it??? do you realy wanna fight... and get injured when you dont realy need to? and also for this Dog brother event... anyone with a few friends and a fancine mask and hockey gloves with sticks from reno depot could organize such event!!!
Sorry honey, but you and the kids will have to be out of the house by the 1st because I have to have surgery now and we can't pay the rent . I sure learned a lot though and if a middle age fat guy with a stick attacks you while you are living under the bridge , I can protect you . Thanks for supporting my dumbass fantasy mastubatory hobbies . Next I will learn to jump my motorcycle through fire , just in case .
its called dangerous..the same skills can be learned safely and the goal should not be to hurt each other...the true test comes in real life when a situation arises....why hurt each other of those whom you call friends...It is dangerous........and wrong
@232323C: We learn these skills safely and our goal is to get a real fighter. We test our skills and want to raise our fighting skills. How do you want to become a real fighter if you dont fight realistic? And we dont want to hurt our brothers. Have a look at American Football. There you hurt your Teammates in training. If you get in an selfdefense Situation it is too late to see if you can stand the fight. I know if i have the balls to stand the fight, do you? Woof from germany
@ElCativo no offense bro but i have trained traditionally shotokan ninjutsu, kenpo etc and i have stood and prevailed in real fights 3 on 1 on the street........so i dissagree you have to be as hard as you guys on each other....but if you like it then hey bro be happy...no offense intended
@232323C wise man once said "train like you fight" traditional training is just a substitute for experience. your not going get a guy robbing you in some ally to mug you softly. then why train softly. if you face situations like this for fun when the time come that your in a real life or death fight you will be ready. and for the the goal not being to hurt each other. another wise man once said, "what doesnt kill you makes you stronger" and i have no idea how you figure its wrong....
@hugz04drugz0 dude, i told you i have had REAL fights ..i am in no way bragging...every man can fall but i said if you read correctly that i train traditionally but have had to fight for real with three against me on the side of a darkened road....It comes down to training and what you got insideand of course traaining helps but i only said you guys are f'n each other up and dont tell me you DB's dont get broke ribs or noses and thats just f'n STUPID.. so knock yourselves out. macho complex
@232323C if your that concerned about minor injuries like cracked ribs or broken noses you shouldnt walk out your door let alone practice martial arts. its a scary world out there.
@232323C I would disagree. If fighting the DB,s way did not teach anything above what you get from traditional way's of training, you would not have heard much about them. Fact is, they revolutionized Kali as we know it today, These guys were born out of traditional schools. They just took it to the next level. Seems like a natural progression to me :)
@tbskms if you call attacking each other in training taking it to the next level and if you consider that beneficial......well, I too dissagree. I believe in martial arts......what you train will come out when you need it......you don't have to break your bones and your training partners to learn how to fight......the dog brothers seem to look for attention and approval seeking.....whatever thougjh....if thats what floats their boat but it doesn;t make them better
@tbskms you dont learn anything when they have to fuse your neck and spine together cause some asshole training partner or shitty school encouraged you to do so.....are you super man if you jump in front of a speeding locamotive?
I appreciate the fact that these guys are doing it to perserve the masculinity of man. Today's culture of political correctness, toloration, and feminism have degraded MAN. I think this is a great thing to allow us men to be ourselves.
i think its a good way to test if the techniques you learn really works but i think saftey goes first legs arm r not protected completley i ve been training since 10yrs now Kali Escrima and we used to sparr in full proctection with saftey sticks aswell
This is just one type of training. It would be truly impractical to train by gouging out your training partner's eyes or crushing their throat. And when that was done in gladiatoral training, they usually had no choice... yet it was considered sport. Dog Brothers matches are just a way to experience which techniques fail against a determined attacker, and live to adapt.

@thealumbrado "experience which techniques fail..." What technique? These guys are a joke. Swinging away like a bunch of bitches who don't know what their doing. Good boxers, MMA fighters, Fencers, and other martial artists look polished when they fight. These guys look like pussies.
@kamalamalama Brad Pitt looks polished when he fights too... that's the difference between entertainment like MMA and the movies... and having criminals or nutjobs who fight dirty jumping on you. In too many places, while you are looking pretty and polished, their friends are shooting you in the back.
@kamalamalama when the adrenaline is pumping who gives a crap about being polished? if you're jumped from behind are you going to make sure you're technique is good? A real fight is not like something you see in a cage or ring with gloves,a ref and judges
@kamalamalama I'm sure you're more than welcome to go visit them and face off and see how much of a 'joke' they are. Just remember to bring bengay and cold compress packs after you get your ass whipped.
@kamalamalama Are you practicing Martial Arts? Have a look at any DBMA Group near you and do ONE sparring session in full protection. Just for getting a sense of, how fast a stick can be.
Dont judge about it if dont have an idea of what happens in the fight...
By the way, this is NOT self defense. Self defense = eye gouging, biting, larynx twisting/ crushing, fish-hooking, finger snapping, and above all, dealing with the knife. This is sport fighting. It's real, but it is not self defense.
Nobody today trains for self defense by really gouging out their training partner's eyes or actually crushing their throat. And when gladiators did that for training in the past, they began with no choice, and it was considered a sport BTW. What Dog Brothers is, is a way to find out through experience what techniques will and won't stop a determined attacker, and live to learn from it. .
@swordofmanjushri : i may make an mistake, but self defence courses dont go to the limits. there they (instructors) show some *attaks* but in soft version. they dont have the pressure as an real agressor..thats why this is better than self defence ^_^
1:46 No truer words have been spoken that gets to the heart of why martial arts should be taught.. Its not about fame, glory, money, or pride; its about protection what you hold most dear. Rock on Dogs!!!
This is sort of similar to what I train in Krav Maga, but we just don't deal with handles and knives, we deal with also hand guns, rifles, multiple attackers etc... We also practice grappling from Judo and standup from muay thai. Its a really great all around self defense art.
I used to study krav maga. As much as I love it Even I know its not the best. In the old ufc a krav maga guy went up against a bjj dude and got his ass woped (krav maga). KM is designed fro weapons.
well yeah two diff fight spectrums. That be like a BJJ expert going up against a Krav Mega expert in a street knife fight. The BJJ expert is going to most likely end up dead, while the Krav Mega expert will most likely end up survivng with no life threatening injuries or anything server.
It doesnt take a genius (or even a fat shrink) to see what violence is and what its not. Violence is force directed at an undeseving target for pointless reasons. Fighting is when two warriors of comparable skill, trade blows fair and square to determine who is the best.
Prehaps that shrink need to take up full contact fighting. Might do wonders for his chub.
War is almost exclusively aimed at civilians. If competitors in the Dog Brothers had to fight in a pool full of infants then maybe you would have a point.
The psychologists who see this phenomenon as some sort of result of "the kind of violence that is pervasive in modern society" are missing the boat. This is about much more than merely an exercise in male aggression. The key phrase -- "higher consciousness through harder contact" -- is not just a quaint motto. It sums up the rationale behind why the Dog Brothers emphasize the experience of full-contact stick sparring.
"we live in a world right now particularly the United state where ... blah blah manhood defined by ability to fight ... blah blah"
This guy is an Anthropologist!!!?? Does he know nothing of the history of mankind? Status in a society based on ability to hold one's own in conflict has always been there, as far back as men walked out of caves. What a fool.
And Dog Brothers train exactly like fighters in ancient times would have trained ... hard.
Higher consciousness through harder contact. Words well said! They may have their critics just as the UFC did. Everyone has a game of attack how they think they will handle a real situation until their hit! Long live the Dog Brothers.
I think the Dog Brothers are one of the few groups that are actually practicing MARTIAL arts. A lot of people don't spar or test anything; these guys are intense. Much respect.
