guys im unsure how to get deeper when duckdiving.

whats the first stage (with a bodyboard)?

Do i lean forward and push down on the front of the board and then use my knee to push down the back of the board?

@bradicalable first, make sure your board is waxed properly, its important because when you get deeper, it may slip out of your hands! okay you lean forward enough to get the edge of your knee on the end, just enough to make the board sink. Then you push down on the board and swim forward while underwater. it takes lots of practice but once you get it it can be quite useful

But if its a gnarly high tide with an insane shore break, I'll grab my sponge and fins and tuck into some barrels any time. Its all about the respect and love of the ocean.

Hey thats some hectic duckdiving, im pretty much a beginner and i can't master it! When a 3 foot wave comes i do exactly that but only go about 10cms underwater and get smashed by the wave anyway.

Any suggestions or advice what im doing wrong? Im 67kg, got a 40 inch board and yeah im using my knees then pushing it against the tail and i close my eyes when duckdiving lol.

I have done both for about 3 years each and they are both equally technical, standing up makes surfing technical, and the fact that you have to do tricks, or sit deep in a barrel just to be average at bodyboarding makes it technical.

DD is easy just press down reall hard with your arms and hands, make sure the nose of the board goes as deep as you can and the use your the bottom of your toes and foot to push up on the tail of the board as you come up.
